suddenly theres records of a new server located in ashburn va which gets publically leaked via several forum posts,checked the whois on that ashburn server and several other servers and saw that all the registration info was diffrent for thier amsterdam server, yet that server on us soil was all the feds needed 2 nail mega with, thier server company pulled the switch and ratted them out
I can't believe megavideo was taken down. now all the other sites like videobb and videozer and removing their videos like crazy too. I don't care what the founder of megavideo has been doing, the only thing i can say is that he has made a lot of people in this world happy with his megavideo and megaupload. For those who are not living in the america, we don't get those tv shows immediately and megavideo and sites like that are our only option. Now, we're left with nothing.

What worries me if you look at the case of tvshack.com the site wasn't hosted in the US and the guy who run it never went to the US. Also, the RIAA/MPAA issued takedowns to Youtube for Megauploads video which they did not own. When questioned on this, they told everyone they could take it down if they wanted to, even though they don't own the content. So WTF?!

Serious? Todays economy and they're just deciding to take down websites for piracy and stuff, people getting arrested for it. Piracy is at an all time high because of todays economy, also most of these websites, it's P2P therefore it is not illegal, you can't be sent to prison for it. This is not BS and they deserve it. I was able to stream movies from Megaupload for free with no publicity, in my country half of the "filesharing" links to copyright material was host by Megaupload, and finaly they were tooken down by a federal court wich means due process (unlike SOPA and PIPA) So they were not just a file hosting site

Rich, from a person (Who I follow on Facebook for gaming news, reviews, and such like that) who even uploads games onto sites such as Mega Upload, he said MU had a couple servers in the US which pinned them into this mess and allowed them to legitimately have a case against the Hong Kong portion of MU.

I wonder if there's a way to host a website on volunteered computers, similar to how uTorrent shares files--where a user volunteers their computer to take on some of the bandwidth and data storage available to the public--like a Youtube that was located everywhere. If that were possible, I hope some tech savvy person figures out how to do this because it would be a way to circumvent government censorship.

Thats bullshit man, they have gone after Megaupload 'cos it's a big name.
Megaupload is one of sites which actually used to remove copyrighted files when they found out it was up, no website that large can remove files as soon as they are uploaded, but they use to do a respectable job of trying to keep on top of it.
Very soon we'll be saying "Remember when the internet used to be free"

@mindwipeuk if you host stuff in the US you're subject to US laws. I don't host anything in the US. What worries me if you look at the case of tvshack.com the site wasn't hosted in the US and the guy who run it never went to the US. The only reason the US say they should be able to put him in jail is because all the route request for .com addresses go via. a US company in the US. Message is clear, don't use US domains or in fact any US hosting company for anything.

Megaupload took down all infringing content immediately. There are people who have dealt with Megaupload commenting on Reddit that says Megaupload was one of the fastest reacting companies in dealing with take downs requests via the DMCA.
Also, the RIAA/MPAA issued takedowns to Youtube for Megauploads video which they did not own. When questioned on this, they told everyone they could take it down if they wanted to, even though they don't own the content. So WTF?!
