yah sure the Hybrid might have a very slight fuel economy advantage over the diesel but the truth is when your driving the open road it would amount to less fuel than you would piss everytime that you would stop for a rest area so why not buy a diesel and have something that will hold its value longer and have an engine that will last 3-4 hundred thousand miles and not have to be buying batteries for it every 8 years.
...The process to make a battery that powers the Hybrid is dangerous to the environment. You have to replace the battery every 8 or so years. The battery you just had to replace is more dangerous to our environment than leaving a V-8 engine on, and burning gasoline for 8 years straight. Figure out how that makes sense. -_-
hybrids come in all shapes and sizes, but they all suck. You want to be "green", buy a diesel and run it on bio-diesel. You want to be economic, then definitely dont buy a hybrid, you will never see a return on your investment, and when you do, you'll probably have to buy new batteries for your car at the run of $5000.
I think the saddest part about all this is that Vw doesn't bring their most efficient TDI models to North America. The new Polo Bluemotion TDI gets 71.3 US mpg Combined. 81.1 US MPG on the hwy. These arn't Hybrids, they're diesels. Diesel is the way to go.
Once you factor in how much gasoline and diesel fuel goes into mining the nickel for hybrid batteries, combined with the shipping from Canda to China, then to Japan, then back to the US, you've used the equivalent amount of fuel if you'd driven a diesel pickup 13,000 miles. What do I Hybrid's sound like? I only know the sound it makes when it lies.
That Civic got 64mpg competing for the record that the Tdi got. Not only did it get 64mpg but it also did it with more people in the car then the tidi.
Sorry to tell you VW, but hybrid's is where it's at!
But then again, vw is suppose to be working on a Golf hybrid...be funny to see the commercial for that one

by 2 seconds? big deal lol
99gsx4g63 2 years ago
2 seconds is a big difference and it depends who's driving too, if you're racing. one, one thousand, two, one thousand.
huddysk8 2 years ago
Yes well in a track car yes..but on the street sorry....it doesn't matter.
99gsx4g63 2 years ago
It's ok, you don't have to appoligize for the slow car.lol, you know I'm just messin' with you.
huddysk8 2 years ago
why are these people so defensive about the prius?
......oh yeah, because they realize that they lost their balls when the bought it. Must be depressing to pull up next to a sports car in one of these
croc17046 2 years ago
Nope not at all...when you can go past the gas station that the "sports car" has to pull into

Wrong, the Prius has saved it's production fuel by the time the car hits 20,000kms.
From there on it's only saving more fuel.
fast55chev 2 years ago
Well done, Honda or even Toyota should do a real one. Cuz even if Toyota did it, at least it's a hybrid that did it!
btw, Honda really did set the new record with a mpg at 64mpg US gal.
fast55chev 2 years ago
Well done and very funny too... I just played for an audience at the airport ;)
As mentioned in the video, the World record was set at 68.5 MPG US,... not 64 MPG. :)
Cheers;
