In Motor Trends hot lap the boss 302 track time was 1:41.06 to the GT500 1:44.03 and the boss is about 1/3 less the price. A 375 hp twin turbo SHO V6 in a stang would rape both these cars for about 36k. Horsepower is not everything. Braking balance weight tranfer and corner g force hooking the ponys up work all together in making a great track time. For the horsees the gt500 has it's 1/4 mile times are not even that good,If you can't hook it up, its wasted power and weight. GT is now a dinosaur

I do have to admit the Boss stang is the best production muscle car ever. But the motors been upgraded, front A arms all done over, bigger brakes and I wonder if it has the electic type resitant shocks were the fluid gets hard by computer sencers like a rolls. Ford is dying to put the SHO turbo v6 in a stang, but then what would they do with the GT & Shelby?
Put lower gears that are in the GT stang in the V6 performance pakg, off the gov, put in a lighter high rev driveshaft. I'd bet the V6 would walk all over the V8 on a track. It's a much lighter better balanced car than the V8. Everytime I watch a V8 stang brake hard, it reminds me of someone trying a handstand. Its a shame to see this beautiful motor in such an unbalanced car. They added 6"cowl forward,instead of pulling the motor back they added leg room.$ always win out over performance
@liellibg it's an american car. sure america is catching up, but they have never been famous for balance. they usually lack in suspension and handling and make up for that with a giant engine.
Love the new mustang, but give the 4.0 some credit. Its the most bulletproof v6 ford has ever made. Plus having the 4.0 in my ranger, gets me from 0-60 in 6.9 seconds :P (that's hella fast for a truck that size)
well ive seen a vid on here where the car didnt make 305hp. is it because the sport package that this one has the 308hp? i know they change the ratio in the sport package so is there any way that this changes hp outputs on a dyno? i dont know anything about them but to me if it reads it gets up to speeds quicker than it may read something higher than the stcok gear ratio?
@kingdevo7 K&N has a pretty sophisticated dyno that can compute the actual output of the engine from what it's reading at the axel. A cheaper dyno will not do this, so you have losses from mechanical friction and rolling resistance that it will not account for. The most accurate way to test an engine is without it mounted, but that is not usually possible.
@kingdevo7 It's probably because one of the videos you watched was showing the amount of power being put down to the tires as apposed to this dyno which has correcting factors to show what hp is being made at the flywheel(what manufacturers rate cars at). For example my Focus is rated @ 143hp, but only puts down 125 to the tires due to drivetrain losses.
Just drove a rental '11 'stang from Hertz and it's a mixed bag. Off the line, not so quick and the engine bogged for some reason. Handling is nice, turning radius is insanely small. The car must have had the 2.73 axle, as the motor was only turning at 2k at 82mph! Got about 30 mpg on the freeway driving in CT, less when I got on it. On the highway, there is lots of pickup with the revs up and the 6-speed auto giving those revs up nicely. Interior is 100x better than the Camaro I tried first...

I'm going to wait till next spring anyway. No need buying another sports car for the winter, I just put my 08' Z away this past weekend. I'm guessing these are under rated just like the 5.0 is, every 5.0 owner I've talked to is putting 380-390 to the rear wheels, which is roughly 430-440ish at the crank.
Quick question people.. does the new 2011 mustangs and 2012 mustangs have an option to take out the front pony logo? I really like the car but I do wish there was some sort of option at the dealer to take out that logo or at lease replace it w/ that new smaller pony stripe on the side instead.
thats not a stock 2011 v6 mustang.... 1. it has double headers.. which v6s do not come stock 2. it also has duel exhaust.. which again.. they do not come stalk with.

Torque is a function of displacement and compression ratio. The 3.7 and the 3.8L are fairly close in size... Power is the ability work over time. The 3.8L was dog-tastic revver. You could make it go.. but for just decided to make the engine more of a OHC instead of the push-rod design.

@REDLINE25 : I wonder the same. Car firms rate @ the crank, not at the wheels so the only way to really know with 100% accuracy is to yank the motor. 305 at the crank is probably in the neighborhood of 235-250 at the wheels. For them to assert 308 makes no sense because there's no really accurate way to measure drive line losses...for example, all else being equal the RWHP would likely be lower with an auto with the same factory HP rating. I call bullshit on their "knowing" it puts out 308.
This car would be the reason why people would stop buying and driving FWD imports like the Si, Spec V, Speed3, etc. It smokes all of them in acceleration, makes more h/p and torque, and the mpg is the same or better. I never thought I would like a Ford product so much.
@thisisbenji90 I've read that a car w/ 2 snows tires on the driven wheels whether FWD or RWD provide better traction than a vehicle w/ AWD that has summer or all season tires on all four wheels. Read some of the auto magazine reviews and test results to see what they said.
@postersurfman1 Not so sure if I completely agree with that, I agree about the FWD portion. But, rear wheel drive can get tricky going up hills from a stop even with winter tires (from experience). That's not going to stop me though, this new Mustang will be on my shopping list when I start looking at cars.

Those rims come with the" performance pack". It is a 1995 dollar option that adds those 19" wheels, summer only tires with better grip, a strut brace for the engine, stiffer suspension and brakes off last years gt, and a unique tuning for the stability control system for sport driving I think.
People bashing v6 mustangs are idiots. There are more V6 mustangs being sold in the United States than V8. Most dealerships have more v6 mustangs for sale than v8. Not everyone buys a mustang to race. Most buy them because they like the way the car looks and feels when driving it.
Ford pulls out a steak dinner to the M/T staff & hands them an engineering ringer "example". M/T shouts "legit". I say the car they tested is as phony as a 3 dollar bill. Tuner videos on the Tube show after they put on their CAI's, mufflers and 93 octane tunes & chassie dyno their V6 car...maby they will come withing 20 foot lbs and 35 H.P. on the wrong side of M/T's car. Posts here with real deal stockers nowhere near 300 HP. The '11 Mustang V6 a cool car...just don't give me the jazz M/T.
@Longboy4 the video doesn't say if the 308 hp they measured was RWHP or Crank HP. It could be possible that they estimated the driveline losses with their 308 figure. If the Mustang was making 308 RWHP Ford would be advertising that it made 350 hp. Therefore MT estimate probably crank HP, other people with CAIs and tunes probably RWHP.
Actually my reference point is 1994 BMW 540i. That car ran 1/4 mile in 14.0 seconds flat and it was a four door sedan. Its engine was 282 bhp. The engineg caused probelms due to the alloy that is used to line the cylinders, but that car performed really good.

Car firms rate @ the crank, not at the wheels so the only way to really know with 100% accuracy is to yank the motor. 305 at the crank is probably in the neighborhood of 235-250 at the wheels. For them to assert 308 makes no sense because there's no really accurate way to measure drive line losses...for example, all else being equal the RWHP would likely be lower with an auto with the same factory HP rating. I call bullshit on their "knowing" it puts out 308.

This car would be the reason why people would stop buying and driving FWD imports like the Si, Spec V, Speed3, etc. It smokes all of them in acceleration, makes more h/p and torque, and the mpg is the same or better. I never thought I would like a Ford product so much.

@thisisbenji90 I've read that a car w/ 2 snows tires on the driven wheels whether FWD or RWD provide better traction than a vehicle w/ AWD that has summer or all season tires on all four wheels. Read some of the auto magazine reviews and test results to see what they said.

@postersurfman1 Not so sure if I completely agree with that, I agree about the FWD portion. But, rear wheel drive can get tricky going up hills from a stop even with winter tires (from experience). That's not going to stop me though, this new Mustang will be on my shopping list when I start looking at cars.

hm driving it, it doesnt feel like 0-60 un 5 seconds... my malibu ltz v6 feels faster. but numbers dont lie i suppose. the mustang just feels so heavy.

Those rims come with the" performance pack". It is a 1995 dollar option that adds those 19" wheels, summer only tires with better grip, a strut brace for the engine, stiffer suspension and brakes off last years gt, and a unique tuning for the stability control system for sport driving I think.

People bashing v6 mustangs are idiots. There are more V6 mustangs being sold in the United States than V8. Most dealerships have more v6 mustangs for sale than v8. Not everyone buys a mustang to race. Most buy them because they like the way the car looks and feels when driving it.

@Longboy4 the video doesn't say if the 308 hp they measured was RWHP or Crank HP. It could be possible that they estimated the driveline losses with their 308 figure. If the Mustang was making 308 RWHP Ford would be advertising that it made 350 hp. Therefore MT estimate probably crank HP, other people with CAIs and tunes probably RWHP.

Actually my reference point is 1994 BMW 540i. That car ran 1/4 mile in 14.0 seconds flat and it was a four door sedan. Its engine was 282 bhp. The engineg caused probelms due to the alloy that is used to line the cylinders, but that car performed really good.
