You didn't, but if u read the posts so far the others have, I wasn't actually speaking of you singularly, I was speaking pluraly, sorry for the confusion.
Also u said something about infallibility having to do with the Pope being the boss, that's not infallibility at all.
Apparently you don't and sound no different from the Prots when speaking of such issue. If there is no purgatory then there is no hades or sheol and the Bible is telling lies. I posted scripture for u and u didn't respond to them. We don't make definite judgements about the afterlife, this is true and we strongly believe that. So we don't know who's in purgatory or hell, but thru revelation from God we know who's in heaven, the saints.
trust me I know what Catholicism is. I was a protestant before I converted so I know the misconceptions ppl have about Catholicism I once had it. I know what the Church teaches and have no reason to lie to you about it. We offer prayers for the dead in purgatory based on 2 Tim 1:16-18, Paul prays for Onesiphorus even though he's dead, where is he? Purgatory in Latin (derived), Hades in Greek, Sheol in Hebrew. Also from 1 Cor 3:15.
The notion of an infallible papacy? Show me in the Fathers where such a concept is taught, show me in the Patristic writings both East and West. As far as the politicization of the papacy is concerned, starting w the Donation of Constantine the claims of the Bishop of Rome have been shown to be spurious at best, and downright fraudulent at worst. The reason Europe has fallen from the faith in the last 500 yrs is the fault of the Roman Church. Ask any secular European!
There is no such thing as a politicization of trhe papacy either you refuse to read what I have written or you just have talking point and need to get it out. The papacy is the Bishop of Rome as the first among equals, no such thing as subordinates or inferiors. Yet All notable secular historian will show that the reason why the west is what it is today is bcus of the Church. Unfortunately it is easy to get lies out than it is the truth. Constantine only made christianity legal.
Clearly, from history, the development of the Papacy is a political, NOT a spiritual thing. Peter is the first amongst equals, not the first among subordinates, and from the earliest times the Bishop of Rome held a presiding, not infallible, role in the Church. The unity of the Church doesn't depend on the Pope but on the Tradition and upon the unction of the Holy Spirit as He leads the faithful into all truth. To say that it's all concentrated in one "infallible" man is a late development.
You repeated the same question too many times. You are obsessed. And I know pretty well what papal infallibility is. And BELIEVE ME when I say I know what catholics really are. I won't discuss this with you because you don't understand many theological arguments. Your theology is pretty much irational even if you don't realise that. But is not just your case. But I have a friendly advice for you. Do not swallow everything your authorities gives you! Many blessings to you!
Simply saying that you know doesn't mean you know. Answering my questions will prove that you know. Protestants claim they know the Bible yet we can agree that they are confused on it.
You don't need to... We live in the Truth, we live in Ortho-Doxy... We don't care about any of your dogmatic improvisations. We are One... So please, if you really don't want to understand, go away, go where you are heard, leave us alone. For your democratic understanding, leave us in freedom of creed. We are free!!!
I understand your point, but bcus of hatred you ae blind to see that my point is also your point. We've basically said the same thing in different words.
No, no...you did not understood. It is not hatred at all here. I'm just upset because of your catholic teachings. I have something with catholic doctrine, not with you. And no, we did not said the same thing. You posted here something that is not really welcomed in this context, so I had the thought that I need to say something. Why? Because it is not normal here. This is a chant in arabic. A beautiful orthodox chant I might add. It's no place for what we are doing now, but what can we do?
Yes I understood u, but u misunderstood me or u confused me with someone else. Ur upset for catholic teachings u do not understand then. What did I post that isn't welcomed. I love this chant and that's why I listened to it.
On the contrary I've studied most religions. And like I said Orthodoxy isn't different from Catholicism. The difference lies in our philosophies, which do say the same thing in different words. The problem lies in miscommunication.
The problem lies in the Frankish pagan elements adopted in the vatican. Inventions such as papal supremacy and infallibility, purgatory and various other heresies. If you want to gloss over these saying they are simple miscommunication I think you failed to comprehend the gravity of such issues.
what? can u actually have things make sense? papal supremacy? i already explained infallibility, seriously even the orthodox believe in purgatory if not why are prayers offered for the dead? what good are the prayers if there's no purgatory or hades or sheol? didn't Jesus descend to the place of the dead? didn't Paul talk about it in Corinthians?
You can explain to me infallibility but it doesn't make it right at all. If the see of Rome gets to be boss over everyone because of Peter...then so does Antioch because Peter was Bishop there too.
No sorry but you are dishonestly trying to merge the notion of purgatory and hades.
We pray for the dead because just if they are dead does not mean they can not hear our prayers. It has nothing to do with purgatory.
That's the thing the see of Rome DOESN'T get to be boss over everyone, ask the eastern catholics. The bishop of Rome is the first AMONG EQUALS, but mostly the Servant of the Servants of God. Rome is the See bcus Peter spent the rest of his life there, there was already a Bishop in Antioch before Peter's death, he couldn't be suceeded while alive, dat makes no sense. Hades is purgatory, so is sheol. It's just called a different name. We pray for the ppl in purgatory. Same thing.
No sorry but the schism of 1054 happened when Rome wanted to boss everyone around and the rest of the Church said no, and so rome split off mostly due to frankish influence.
Dont tell me about "eastern catholics" who were simply Orthodox forcefully converted in the Crusades, or by Hungarian nobility in Transilvania or Teutonic Knight.
I know about papism as well. There is no purgatory and we don't make definate judgements about the afterlife, only that God will be there.
That may be true, there are different opinions on it. But that is not the case today so I don't see why there's anything wrong with unity. Rome can't be the one to split off, why? bcus the Keys lie with Peter and his successors. Yet they claim never to have been out of communion with Rome, and it wasn't until later that the remaining actually got back in communion with Rome, so ur claim holds no historical basis.
No sorry. The "eastern catholics" were Orthodox communities that were forced by crusaders or other papist nobility to accept the pope. Crusades are your inventions not ours.
Yet the eastern catholics deny your claim. I would take their word for it instead of yours, I think they would know more about themselves than you would. You speak of the crusades as if it were a bad thing.
The crusades are a good thing, well those that were supported by the Pope. They were in response to the muslims forcing Islam on Christians. If anything we should thank God for the crusades otherwise we'd all be screaming AllahuAkbar and attending mosque on fridays.
The crusades were a failure and were a bad thing. When they took Jerusalem they massacred innocent in the city including fellow Christians. And what about the northern Crusades?
Please, the crusades weren't what stopped the muslims considering they FAILED. And the catholic nations were poor at fighting the Muslims as we even see as late as Nicopolis. It is because of rulers such as Stefan cel Mare, Vlad Tepes, Mircea cel Batran, Mihai Viteazul that YOU aren't praying in a mosque.
Most who are aware of the results of the crusades including historians would disagree with u. Truth unfortunately isn't common knowledge. The first few crusades worked, they slowed the spread of Islam, those are the crusades that were backed by the Pope. The ones not backed by the Popes and even condemned by the Popes are what ur speaking of, but ppl are unaware that the later crusades were banned by the Pope. And really the crusades did nothing? U know dats not true.
Yea the results of the crusades were that they slaughtered "fellow" christians for the sake of expanding their personal kingdoms instead of helping the Roman Empire of Alexius with the task that needed to be helped. They even went as far as to sack Constantinople.
I agree with you on that, but please learn to differentiate the difference between all the crusades, not all of them were the same. I refuse to consider those that did not have the backing of the Pope as Crusades, only those that were on the order of the Pope that did what they were supposed to do, do I accept as crusades. The rest were done by greedy ppl.
Emperor Alexius asked for money and mercenaries, not a papal wide military invasion. The crusaders pillaged and raided as soon as they got into Roman territory.
It would be an nvasion if help was not called for, but since help was called for it cannot be an invasion. Troops were sent. E.g. I am Nigerian, in Liberia help was needed and they called the Nigerian authorities for help, they received troops, Nigeria went in and pushed back the invaders, this is going on in Sudan currently. So how is sending troops that are asked for and fighting a war a bad thing?
@TRINITYisLOVE But do you know for the most important battle with the Arabs at Konstantinopol in 718, won by the Bulgarians and the Bizantains? Just after that, defeated in the East the Arabs decided to try to advance in the West.
Yet history doesn't agree with you clearly. Can you pls show me how history clearly shows that the papacy is political or do you not know what 'papacy' is? Do you not also realise that there is the papacy in the east as well? I agree he is the first among equals and that's what the western Church has always believed. I now know that you do not understand what papal infallibility is. And it isn't that the unity of the Church is dependent on him.
I understand the concept of papal "infallibility" quite well, actually. Supposedly, he's infallible when teaching on faith and morals. A papacy in the East? I'd be quite interested in finding out where this papacy is, along with 300 million other Orthodox Christians so that along with St Gregory the Great, we could denounce it. This whole notion of a papacy was NEVER taught in apostolic times, and is a late development of the 19thC in response to the secularization of Europe.
Then if u know that the Pope is infallible on only matters of faith and morals what is the problem? Or do you expect Christ not to keep his promise? Do you also know that the Bishops can speak infallibly too? St. Gregory the Great denounced the papacy? Really? Where? Last time I checked he didn't, and is the reason why we use the gregorian calendar in the west. It was taught in apostolic times the Fathers clearly knew that the Bishop of Rome is the leader among the apostles and their successors.
Check out the MASTERPIECE of Holy Trinity Church, Orlando, Fl. John Filippakis is the Iconographer. Type in Iconographymosaics and it is under move 1 ( movie 1).........
The Pope as a man is not infallible thus Benedict VXI is not infallible, but Benedict XVI as Pope speaking ex-cathedra is infallible. Thus the Holy Spirit making sure that the Church doesn't teach error on faith and morals. The infallibility of the Pope doesn't lie with the man it lies with the Office of the Pope. Ratzinger is not infallible, but Benedict XVI on the Seat of Peter speaks infallible on matters concerning faith and morals. That's the misunderstanding

Orthodoxy Believes We Once Were All Orthodox. And It Believes That We All Should Be Orthodox Again. Orthodoxy Also Follows The Original Calender Of God, And Changes Nothing IN The bible. Everything Remains The Same Like 2000 Years Ago. However Catholics Changed 60% of their bible over time. They Added Many Other Fake Beliefs In The bible. And they follow a so called updated Calender.
The Catholics haven't changed the Bible, they just use philosophy to come up with teachings, then engage in weird exegeting of the Bible to prove their point.
E.g. "On this rock I will build My Church" - 80% of the Church Fathers interpreted this to mean Peter's confession or Christ Himself, only 20% thought it was Peter.
Catholics are die-hard about how OBVIOUS it is that He was referring to Peter. Apparently, 80% of Church Fathers didn't get something so clear and obvious.
If they are so OBVIOUS then show me proof that the early Church Doctors said this, according to your claim. Which Fathers said this? I have the writings of the Early Church Fathers in my library. I will respond accordingly.
You misunderstood me. I'm not saying the verse is obvious. I personally could see how all three interpretations are reasonable. What I am pointing out is 2009 Catholics saying this verse obviously means ONE thing when 80% of the Church Fathers didn't think so.
For example, St. Augustine. He used to think it meant Peter, he changed his mind (in his Retractions). Now, do you really think it would be so easy for him to do this if church government looked back then how Catholics claim? ...
E.g. "On this rock I will build My Church" - 80% of the Church Fathers interpreted this to mean Peter's confession or Christ Himself, only 20% thought it was Peter.
(end quote) So again I say to you, give me a list of those 80 percent of the Early Church Fathers that agree with your private interpretaion of scripture.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
All the fathers knew it was speaking about Peter, that's the whole point of his name being changed. Peter or Cephas means rock. Ignatius of Antioch, Augustine, Ambrose of Milan, Cyril of Jerusalem, Cyprian of Carthage, Origen, Clement of Alexandria.
You misunderstood the entire faith. It is not Peter who is "The Rock", but his faith, his power and determination. That is what Christ reffered to... You must know...I'm not happy at all that our Church splited, but the fact is we remained orthodox...catholics splitted apart with their sins... :(
Your own bishops disagree with you. You're statement is very much protestant. The Pope has always been recognised by the east as the leader among the apostles, as the first among equals.
So I don't think that the 2000 years of Bishops and saints have it wrong. I don't think your current Bishops have it wrong either. The problem is with miscommunication and defining of things, but initially the beliefs are the same.
My friens you are completely lost:)) I'm sorry for you, but eastern patriarch do not recognize the pope as their equal. Pope is still officialy an heretic. The Orthodox Church never recognized that. Your statement is based on false information. And a don't tell you this from me, but from Orthodox Church. It is true, your pope with his "ecumenism" tends to conquer the Orthodoxy. Did you ever read the books of Holy Fathers? I don't know what kind of arg do you have, but you are completely deluded
Can you then show me the fathers that disapproved with the Bishop of Rome as the leader of the apostles?
Was Peter the leader of the apostles or not?
Was he the Bishop of Rome or not?
I have read the books of the Holy Fathers and that's how I know that they all regarded the Bishop of Rome as the first among equals as the legitimate successor of Peter. I already mentioned the fathers of the east that mentioned the Bishop of Rome as the leader among the apostles.
What father, the fathers of who?? What are you talking about exactly?? Go away with you heresy. Leave us!!! All you have are false arguments and teachings. How can you even think the pope is infallible? Even if Saint Peter was pope now, he couldn't be infallible. He was a man with sins. You are so lost....:(
I am talking about the father of the east those you regard as saints that wrote about the Bishop of Rome as the leader among the apostles. Can you provide me with one father that regarded the Bishop of Rome as illegitimate or as not the leader among the apostles?
Do you know what papal infallibility is first of all? I already spoke of this earlier read my comment before to become aware of papal infallibility. If Peter wasn't infallible then his writings in the Bible couldn't be infallible.
Man...I begin to believe that you try to delude the ppl who visit this post. May God forgive me, but or are you evil, or you are stupid!!! ALL THE FATHERS rejected papal authority because of your "innovations" begining with Filioque!!!! You have not read the HOLY FATHERS, because if you did it, you should have known that. There are plenty of arguments, and if you want to undestand this you should go to a orthodox priest. Accept it, you splitted apart from God. You are the enemies of God...
Have you forgotten that there are Fathers of the east and the west? I still haven't seen any of the fathers of the east reject papal authority. Or is it that you misunderstand what papal authority is? Can you pls let me know the names of the fathers of the east that actually stated that the Pope of the west is illegitimate and holds no authority?
"If Peter wasn't infallible then his writings in the Bible couldn't be infallible." So is the logical conclusion of your assertion could be extrapolated to mean that because Satan is quoted in the Gospels, he is infallible?? Or that perhaps since Solomon penned Ecclesiastes that he was also infallible?? No wonder the Protestants decided to say screw it and let everyone be their own Pope. The Church is infallible, the Tradition, NOT a monarch sitting pretentiously in Rome.
Which of Satan's writings are in the Bible? I said Peter's writings not Peter's quotes in the Bible. Peter wrote infallible or else the book of 1 and 2 Peter would not be in the Bible. Those who wrote the Bible wrote infallibliy. The Church who put the books together did so infallibly. Maybe you should learn what Papal infallibility is first instead of going off of what it isn't.
""A seventeenth-century Roman Catholic scholar, Jean de Laynoy, spent considerable time researching the writings of the Church Fathers regarding their interpretations of Matthew 16:18 and discovered that there were 17 who considered Peter as the rock; 44 thought the rock was Peter's confession, 16 thought the rock was Christ, while 8 thought the rock represented the apostles. ...
An astonishing 80% of the Church Fathers did not consider the person of St. Peter as the rock. These findings were used (in vain) by Archbishop Kenrick of St. Louis when he spoke against papal infallibility at the First Vatican Council in 1870."
- Popes and Patriarchs citing Epist. VII, Opp. Vol., pt. 2. p. 99: Geneva, 1773
Do you think a Catholic Archbishop would go to Vatican II and cite a study that doesn't exist? I gave you the citation, go look it up, I will not quote over 100 different Church Fathers with a limit of 500 characters.
Pope Leo II: "Honorius ... did not attempt to sanctify this apostolic Church with the teaching of apostolic tradition but by profane treachery tried to subvert its spotless faith."
What was Honorius's vocation? He was a predecessor of Leo II! He was also condemned as a heretic by the Seventh Ecumenical Council! An infallible heretic?
Pope Vigilius resisted the condemnation of the Three Chapters, then relented and said the devil mislead him. How infallible of him!
Give me your source for this erroneous information. You are twisting the truth and you'll have to bear responsibility for it. Cite your sources or be quiet.
You know actualy the verse is really clear , it says afterward "for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. " So if you ask yourself reveal what? ofcouse it is obvous the testemony that Peter said " Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God." And that is the Faith of Christians (The rock) the rock means our Faith and on this Faith the Church was founded and it has the keys to heaven to bind and bound sin.
Cepahs in Aramaic is rock, Cephas translated to Greek is Petra but that's a woman's name so to make sure ppl know Peter is a man, the name Petro is used instead, but elsewhere he is called Cephas. So when Christ spoke he actually said "Thou art CEPHAS and upon this CEPHAS" I would build my Church. He was referring to CEPHAS(Peter)
I would like the names of the 80 percent of those Eary Church Fathers that agree with your heretical views. Give names and citations. Be specific, I don't want ranting. Concrete facts, please; You have the burden of proof.
John 15:26 says that the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father. In setting forth the Nicene Creed, the Second Ecumenical Council incorporated this verse.
The medieval papacy, without authorization, and in direct contradiction of the ancient canons, changed the Creed to read that the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father AND THE SON.
There's your change - one that actually split the Church in two.
"Being exalted therefore by the right hand of God, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath poured forth this which you see and hear."
"The development of the creed was not forbidden by the Council."
Technically you are correct; but it could not be changed without the unanimous consent of the Church, and I don't think the pope qualifies as the whole church.
None of your scripture quotes deals with the procession of the Holy Spirit, with the sole exception of John 15:26, which speaks of the Holy Spirit proceeding from the Father, with no mention of the Son.

I posted scripture for u and u didn't respond to them. We don't make definite judgements about the afterlife, this is true and we strongly believe that. So we don't know who's in purgatory or hell, but thru revelation from God we know who's in heaven, the saints.

Twycross,
trust me I know what Catholicism is.
ESEME11 2 years ago
The notion of an infallible papacy? Show me in the Fathers where such a concept is taught, show me in the Patristic writings both East and West. As far as the politicization of the papacy is concerned, starting w the Donation of Constantine the claims of the Bishop of Rome have been shown to be spurious at best, and downright fraudulent at worst. The reason Europe has fallen from the faith in the last 500 yrs is the fault of the Roman Church. Ask any secular European!
enigmatik3n1 2 years ago 2
There is no such thing as a politicization of trhe papacy either you refuse to read what I have written or you just have talking point and need to get it out. The papacy is the Bishop of Rome as the first among equals, no such thing as subordinates or inferiors. Yet All notable secular historian will show that the reason why the west is what it is today is bcus of the Church. Unfortunately it is easy to get lies out than it is the truth. Constantine only made christianity legal.
ESEME11 2 years ago
Clearly, from history, the development of the Papacy is a political, NOT a spiritual thing. Peter is the first amongst equals, not the first among subordinates, and from the earliest times the Bishop of Rome held a presiding, not infallible, role in the Church. The unity of the Church doesn't depend on the Pope but on the Tradition and upon the unction of the Holy Spirit as He leads the faithful into all truth. To say that it's all concentrated in one "infallible" man is a late development.
enigmatik3n1 2 years ago
The Holy Father is called by Christ Jesus to be the Servant of the Servants of God.
He is called to be the least among equals; exercising the little way. Obedient to the will of the Head and Body of Christ.

ESEME11 2 years ago
No, no...you did not understood. It is not hatred at all here. I'm just upset because of your catholic teachings. I have something with catholic doctrine, not with you. And no, we did not said the same thing. You posted here something that is not really welcomed in this context, so I had the thought that I need to say something. Why? Because it is not normal here. This is a chant in arabic. A beautiful orthodox chant I might add. It's no place for what we are doing now, but what can we do?
VladDraculll 2 years ago
Yes I understood u, but u misunderstood me or u confused me with someone else. Ur upset for catholic teachings u do not understand then. What did I post that isn't welcomed. I love this chant and that's why I listened to it.
ESEME11 2 years ago
the same I might add. Your loyality to the catholic is because you don't understand Orthodoxy. You don't understand God.
VladDraculll 2 years ago
On the contrary I've studied most religions. And like I said Orthodoxy isn't different from Catholicism. The difference lies in our philosophies, which do say the same thing in different words. The problem lies in miscommunication.
ESEME11 2 years ago
The problem lies in the Frankish pagan elements adopted in the vatican. Inventions such as papal supremacy and infallibility, purgatory and various other heresies. If you want to gloss over these saying they are simple miscommunication I think you failed to comprehend the gravity of such issues.
Twycross 2 years ago
what? can u actually have things make sense? papal supremacy? i already explained infallibility, seriously even the orthodox believe in purgatory if not why are prayers offered for the dead? what good are the prayers if there's no purgatory or hades or sheol? didn't Jesus descend to the place of the dead? didn't Paul talk about it in Corinthians?
ESEME11 2 years ago
You can explain to me infallibility but it doesn't make it right at all. If the see of Rome gets to be boss over everyone because of Peter...then so does Antioch because Peter was Bishop there too.
No sorry but you are dishonestly trying to merge the notion of purgatory and hades.
We pray for the dead because just if they are dead does not mean they can not hear our prayers. It has nothing to do with purgatory.
Twycross 2 years ago
That's the thing the see of Rome DOESN'T get to be boss over everyone, ask the eastern catholics. The bishop of Rome is the first AMONG EQUALS, but mostly the Servant of the Servants of God. Rome is the See bcus Peter spent the rest of his life there, there was already a Bishop in Antioch before Peter's death, he couldn't be suceeded while alive, dat makes no sense. Hades is purgatory, so is sheol. It's just called a different name. We pray for the ppl in purgatory. Same thing.
ESEME11 2 years ago
No sorry but the schism of 1054 happened when Rome wanted to boss everyone around and the rest of the Church said no, and so rome split off mostly due to frankish influence.
Dont tell me about "eastern catholics" who were simply Orthodox forcefully converted in the Crusades, or by Hungarian nobility in Transilvania or Teutonic Knight.
I know about papism as well. There is no purgatory and we don't make definate judgements about the afterlife, only that God will be there.
I didnt attack you.
Twycross 2 years ago
That may be true, there are different opinions on it. But that is not the case today so I don't see why there's anything wrong with unity. Rome can't be the one to split off, why? bcus the Keys lie with Peter and his successors. Yet they claim never to have been out of communion with Rome, and it wasn't until later that the remaining actually got back in communion with Rome, so ur claim holds no historical basis.
ESEME11 2 years ago
No sorry. The "eastern catholics" were Orthodox communities that were forced by crusaders or other papist nobility to accept the pope. Crusades are your inventions not ours.
Twycross 2 years ago
Yet the eastern catholics deny your claim. I would take their word for it instead of yours, I think they would know more about themselves than you would. You speak of the crusades as if it were a bad thing.
The crusades are a good thing, well those that were supported by the Pope. They were in response to the muslims forcing Islam on Christians. If anything we should thank God for the crusades otherwise we'd all be screaming AllahuAkbar and attending mosque on fridays.
ESEME11 2 years ago
The crusades were a failure and were a bad thing. When they took Jerusalem they massacred innocent in the city including fellow Christians. And what about the northern Crusades?
Please, the crusades weren't what stopped the muslims considering they FAILED. And the catholic nations were poor at fighting the Muslims as we even see as late as Nicopolis. It is because of rulers such as Stefan cel Mare, Vlad Tepes, Mircea cel Batran, Mihai Viteazul that YOU aren't praying in a mosque.
Twycross 2 years ago
Most who are aware of the results of the crusades including historians would disagree with u. Truth unfortunately isn't common knowledge. The first few crusades worked, they slowed the spread of Islam, those are the crusades that were backed by the Pope. The ones not backed by the Popes and even condemned by the Popes are what ur speaking of, but ppl are unaware that the later crusades were banned by the Pope. And really the crusades did nothing? U know dats not true.
ESEME11 2 years ago
Yea the results of the crusades were that they slaughtered "fellow" christians for the sake of expanding their personal kingdoms instead of helping the Roman Empire of Alexius with the task that needed to be helped. They even went as far as to sack Constantinople.
Twycross 2 years ago
I agree with you on that, but please learn to differentiate the difference between all the crusades, not all of them were the same. I refuse to consider those that did not have the backing of the Pope as Crusades, only those that were on the order of the Pope that did what they were supposed to do, do I accept as crusades. The rest were done by greedy ppl.
ESEME11 2 years ago
And Jerusalem? In the 1st crusade they slaughtered christians, jews, muslims.
We have a saying in Romania. "The pope and the sultan stink alike." For us we've always been attacked from both sides.
Twycross 2 years ago
Incorrect. The first crusades did no such thing and there isn't a credible historian that will agree with you on that.
And you do realise that it was the east that called for the west's intervention in the first place?
ESEME11 2 years ago
Emperor Alexius asked for money and mercenaries, not a papal wide military invasion. The crusaders pillaged and raided as soon as they got into Roman territory.
Read the Gesta Francorum
Twycross 2 years ago
It would be an nvasion if help was not called for, but since help was called for it cannot be an invasion. Troops were sent. E.g. I am Nigerian, in Liberia help was needed and they called the Nigerian authorities for help, they received troops, Nigeria went in and pushed back the invaders, this is going on in Sudan currently. So how is sending troops that are asked for and fighting a war a bad thing?
ESEME11 2 years ago
Because the troops that were asked for raided and pillaged Orthodox lands.
Wouldn't you prefer to have this discussion via PM and maybe discuss more theology than history?

Yet history doesn't agree with you clearly. Can you pls show me how history clearly shows that the papacy is political or do you not know what 'papacy' is? Do you not also realise that there is the papacy in the east as well? I agree he is the first among equals and that's what the western Church has always believed. I now know that you do not understand what papal infallibility is. And it isn't that the unity of the Church is dependent on him.
ESEME11 2 years ago
I understand the concept of papal "infallibility" quite well, actually. Supposedly, he's infallible when teaching on faith and morals. A papacy in the East? I'd be quite interested in finding out where this papacy is, along with 300 million other Orthodox Christians so that along with St Gregory the Great, we could denounce it. This whole notion of a papacy was NEVER taught in apostolic times, and is a late development of the 19thC in response to the secularization of Europe.
enigmatik3n1 2 years ago
Then if u know that the Pope is infallible on only matters of faith and morals what is the problem? Or do you expect Christ not to keep his promise? Do you also know that the Bishops can speak infallibly too? St. Gregory the Great denounced the papacy? Really? Where? Last time I checked he didn't, and is the reason why we use the gregorian calendar in the west. It was taught in apostolic times the Fathers clearly knew that the Bishop of Rome is the leader among the apostles and their successors.

Can you show me what the Catholics have changed in the Bible? I need proof.
joel6575 2 years ago
The Catholics haven't changed the Bible, they just use philosophy to come up with teachings, then engage in weird exegeting of the Bible to prove their point.
E.g. "On this rock I will build My Church" - 80% of the Church Fathers interpreted this to mean Peter's confession or Christ Himself, only 20% thought it was Peter.
Catholics are die-hard about how OBVIOUS it is that He was referring to Peter. Apparently, 80% of Church Fathers didn't get something so clear and obvious.
CopicOrthodoxAO 2 years ago
If they are so OBVIOUS then show me proof that the early Church Doctors said this, according to your claim. Which Fathers said this? I have the writings of the Early Church Fathers in my library. I will respond accordingly.
joel6575 2 years ago
You misunderstood me. I'm not saying the verse is obvious. I personally could see how all three interpretations are reasonable. What I am pointing out is 2009 Catholics saying this verse obviously means ONE thing when 80% of the Church Fathers didn't think so.
For example, St. Augustine. He used to think it meant Peter, he changed his mind (in his Retractions). Now, do you really think it would be so easy for him to do this if church government looked back then how Catholics claim? ...
CopicOrthodoxAO 2 years ago
And which Church Fathers were those? Give me names and citations.
joel6575 2 years ago
This what you said:
E.g. "On this rock I will build My Church" - 80% of the Church Fathers interpreted this to mean Peter's confession or Christ Himself, only 20% thought it was Peter.
(end quote) So again I say to you, give me a list of those 80 percent of the Early Church Fathers that agree with your private interpretaion of scripture.
joel6575 2 years ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
All the fathers knew it was speaking about Peter, that's the whole point of his name being changed. Peter or Cephas means rock. Ignatius of Antioch, Augustine, Ambrose of Milan, Cyril of Jerusalem, Cyprian of Carthage, Origen, Clement of Alexandria.
ESEME11 2 years ago
You misunderstood the entire faith. It is not Peter who is "The Rock", but his faith, his power and determination. That is what Christ reffered to... You must know...I'm not happy at all that our Church splited, but the fact is we remained orthodox...catholics splitted apart with their sins... :(
VladDraculll 2 years ago
Your own bishops disagree with you. You're statement is very much protestant. The Pope has always been recognised by the east as the leader among the apostles, as the first among equals.
So I don't think that the 2000 years of Bishops and saints have it wrong. I don't think your current Bishops have it wrong either. The problem is with miscommunication and defining of things, but initially the beliefs are the same.
ESEME11 2 years ago
My friens you are completely lost:)) I'm sorry for you, but eastern patriarch do not recognize the pope as their equal. Pope is still officialy an heretic. The Orthodox Church never recognized that. Your statement is based on false information. And a don't tell you this from me, but from Orthodox Church. It is true, your pope with his "ecumenism" tends to conquer the Orthodoxy. Did you ever read the books of Holy Fathers? I don't know what kind of arg do you have, but you are completely deluded
VladDraculll 2 years ago
Can you then show me the fathers that disapproved with the Bishop of Rome as the leader of the apostles?
Was Peter the leader of the apostles or not?
Was he the Bishop of Rome or not?
I have read the books of the Holy Fathers and that's how I know that they all regarded the Bishop of Rome as the first among equals as the legitimate successor of Peter. I already mentioned the fathers of the east that mentioned the Bishop of Rome as the leader among the apostles.

VladDraculll 2 years ago

How can you even think the pope is infallible? Even if Saint Peter was pope now, he couldn't be infallible. He was a man with sins. You are so lost....:(
VladDraculll 2 years ago
I am talking about the father of the east those you regard as saints that wrote about the Bishop of Rome as the leader among the apostles. Can you provide me with one father that regarded the Bishop of Rome as illegitimate or as not the leader among the apostles?
Do you know what papal infallibility is first of all? I already spoke of this earlier read my comment before to become aware of papal infallibility. If Peter wasn't infallible then his writings in the Bible couldn't be infallible.
ESEME11 2 years ago
Man...I begin to believe that you try to delude the ppl who visit this post. May God forgive me, but or are you evil, or you are stupid!!! ALL THE FATHERS rejected papal authority because of your "innovations" begining with Filioque!!!! You have not read the HOLY FATHERS, because if you did it, you should have known that. There are plenty of arguments, and if you want to undestand this you should go to a orthodox priest. Accept it, you splitted apart from God. You are the enemies of God...
VladDraculll 2 years ago
Have you forgotten that there are Fathers of the east and the west? I still haven't seen any of the fathers of the east reject papal authority. Or is it that you misunderstand what papal authority is? Can you pls let me know the names of the fathers of the east that actually stated that the Pope of the west is illegitimate and holds no authority?
ESEME11 2 years ago
"If Peter wasn't infallible then his writings in the Bible couldn't be infallible." So is the logical conclusion of your assertion could be extrapolated to mean that because Satan is quoted in the Gospels, he is infallible?? Or that perhaps since Solomon penned Ecclesiastes that he was also infallible?? No wonder the Protestants decided to say screw it and let everyone be their own Pope. The Church is infallible, the Tradition, NOT a monarch sitting pretentiously in Rome.
enigmatik3n1 2 years ago
Which of Satan's writings are in the Bible? I said Peter's writings not Peter's quotes in the Bible. Peter wrote infallible or else the book of 1 and 2 Peter would not be in the Bible. Those who wrote the Bible wrote infallibliy. The Church who put the books together did so infallibly. Maybe you should learn what Papal infallibility is first instead of going off of what it isn't.
ESEME11 2 years ago

CopicOrthodoxAO 2 years ago

Pope Vigilius resisted the condemnation of the Three Chapters, then relented and said the devil mislead him. How infallible of him!

Pharaoh714 2 years ago
Since when does rock mean faith?
Cepahs in Aramaic is rock, Cephas translated to Greek is Petra but that's a woman's name so to make sure ppl know Peter is a man, the name Petro is used instead, but elsewhere he is called Cephas. So when Christ spoke he actually said "Thou art CEPHAS and upon this CEPHAS" I would build my Church. He was referring to CEPHAS(Peter)

Truthseeker61 2 years ago 4
The development of the creed was not forbidden by the Council.
Titus 3:6
"Whom he hath poured forth upon us abundantly, THROUGH JESUS Christ our Saviour."
Acts 2:33
"Being exalted therefore by the right hand of God, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath poured forth this which you see and hear."
John 14:16
John 15:26
John 16:7
rumpranger65 2 years ago
"The development of the creed was not forbidden by the Council."
Technically you are correct; but it could not be changed without the unanimous consent of the Church, and I don't think the pope qualifies as the whole church.
None of your scripture quotes deals with the procession of the Holy Spirit, with the sole exception of John 15:26, which speaks of the Holy Spirit proceeding from the Father, with no mention of the Son.
