The law. It is against federal law to conduct any activity which discriminates against a "protected" group such as gays. A so-called straight pride parade would fall well within that, but not so with a gay pride parade. Straight people are not protected by the same civil rights in America, thus can be discriminated against.

There is absolutely no LAW on the books that prohibits straight people from having a straight pride parade. The real issue is, despite the ranting we occasionally hear about it from ignorant folks who say otherwise, the truth of the matter is that no straight person actually wants to anty up and organize one.

@stewartx5 Parades don't just happen, there's a lot of panning and hard work that goes into them. Do you even realize how many straight people come to and enjoy themselves at gay pride parades? Do you know the history of gay pride parades and why they began? I encourage you to do your research before making random, false statements like the ones you made above. Get a group of buddies together, raise money, and organize your parade. If you feel discrimiated against, THEN DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

Right. Between federal anti-discrimination laws. state anti-discrimination laws, hate crimes laws, and so on, none of which routinely benefit heterosexuals, I seriously doubt there is a city in America which would even grant a permit for a straight pride parade. The very name of such a parade discriminates, thus runs afoul of numerous laws.

@stewartx5 Right. It's called - Freedom of Assembly - If you intend to discriminate, then of course, with that reason in mind, your permit would be justifiably denied. I think you need to re-read the Constitution, specifically the Bill of Rights which containts the most pertinent parts of the 1st Amendment that speak directly to this issue. There is absolutely no law in the great US of A that would prevent you from organizing a straight pride parade. No laws would be broken. Period.

@stewartx5 By the way, there have been plenty attempts to organize straight pride parades over the years. The fact is, there's little to no interest in participating in such an event. Why? Because generally, most people don't feel that there's a need for straight parades, but I'd support the idea as long as its all inclusive, just like gay pride parades most certainly are.
