Email to countdown at msnbc: To correct error misinforming public about Mike Gravel's campaign, please give him air time. Alternatively, in the interest of fairness, you could also mistakenly announce that the other Dem candidates have also withdrawn from the race. Then you could issue a retraction.
My opinion is that it is very likely that this alleged prank phone call did not even exist. Considering the past cases of corporate censorship, I think it is fair to surmise that corruption is rampant at the highest levels. Of course this behavior is acceptable for a "third-tier" candidate who does not adequately represent corporate interests. We, the people, are being screwed. Wake up, America!
Maybe this is comment is a bit brash. If I could, I would probably delete it; however, I have seen no indication of an investigation being made by NBC and I frankly found the apology to be formulaic and grossly insufficient. The "double-checking" statement almost seemed to shift the blame to Alex Colvin, as though it was NBC's word verses the Gravel campaign. From appearances, it seems they simply put the ball back in Gravel's court during a crucial moment for the campaign in NH.

and make sure to mention on Nov. 12th that Olbermann commented on censored veterans, yet that's just what he did against Mike Gravel, a veteran who vows to help veterans more than any other candidate when elected President. And the veterans, along with their families & friends, and all citizens will be self empowered as the 4th Check (Checks and Balances) by the National Initiative to help solve their problems directly in present & future government. ni4d(DOT)us
MSNBC recently showed a 47 second video of the self proclaimed "Grand Warlock" from Mexico making a prediction that Hillary would become the next US president. An honorable man, Mike Gravel, who has served his country both in time of war and in peace is given no compensatory air time to communicate with his supporters. FOR SHAME!!
I think too the phone call probably doesn't exist. There is a chance it was a poser. The poser can be tracked if that person even exists. But finding Alex's name is not hard to do. Keith was just the puppet used to bring out the lie. This hit job against Mike was simple and the lousy quarter-minute explanation was gladly done because this was nothing and yet would be blindly accepted as patching things up.
I received an email from Domenico Montanaro at MSNBC that there was 'confusion here' as to whether or not Gravel was still in the race and that they had indeed reported that Senator Gravel was out, I replied with the following email statement:"
"Senator Gravel has not withdrawn from the race and he continues to campaign in New Hampshire. Mr Olbermann's announcement was certainly premature. I then received an email from Mr Montanaro that an Alex Colvin phoned Alex Winter and told him that the Senator had withdrawn."
I then phoned Mr Montanaro to tell him that 1) I did not speak to Mr Winter and in fact do not know who he is.
2) Senator Gravel is not withdrawing from the race and there in no chance that anyone from the Gravel staff would make such a statement, and 3) Would MSNBC please retract the statement. Alex
I can assure you the couch potatoes will enjoy a good scandal about dirty tricks or pathetic media fact-checking enough to go one evening without hearing about the young women.
Since it was not made by Alex Colvin, who did make it and why?
Who felt the need to put out this disinfo about Gravel and why?
What kind of fact-checking or integrity does MSNBC have?
Surely one of you fine journalists could manage to take time out from your coverage of Ms. Spears or Ms. Hilton to investigate the truth of this political disinfo dirty trick?
The following night Mr. Olberman offered a tiny apology and a big load of BS excuses for this gaffe.
Mr. Olberman claimed that Alex Clovin, Gravel's press agent made the call. He then claims that MSNBC "double checked" the info before repeating it on air.
Perhaps one of you would do a bit of investigating just what this "double check" consisted of.
I think so, we can't sit around and wait for them to "investigate" because Tuesday is the New Hampshire primary. So this needs to be settled ASAP. BillO is just the tool to speed up the investigation.
The alleged Alex Colvin prank call "verified by NBC News"--This doesn't rest with me. Something is very fishy here. I don't buy the manufactured apology.
Won't happen. Mike will poll higher in New Hampshire, Michigan and Nevada than he did in Iowa. He will be in this race until the very end. I recommend you to subscribe to Mike's channel (/gravel2008) and learn about the only respectable candidate going in this election.
It doesn't matter who I support. The point of my post was that a few candidates have withdrawn their names from our ballot because Michigan broke the primary rules by moving it before Feb 5. As of right now it looks like the ballot choices will be; Hillary Clinton, Mike Gravel, Chris Dodd, uncommitted, write in (Kucinich is currently trying to get his name withdrawn). Not a lot of choices there.
Our donations keep Mike Gravel's Campaign alive! Please donate to him on a weekly basis and contribute as much as you can on January 27th, the Day the Vietnam War ended (with the help of Mike Gravel)
not to defend Olbermann, but I believe the information was wrongfully handed to him by his pundit cohorts. This guy is the only mainstream media representative barraging rightist rhetoric and jingoism. Otherwise, Gravel rules!
olbermann is a total hypocrit. watch the link I left in my last comment. Its truly disgusting what he's done. and there is no excuse. NONE all the talking he does about free speech and here he is censoring a veteran that ended the vietnam war and IMPEACHED NIXON!
cause Mike Gravel actually DOES have a chance, if you look at it rationally all the candidates have the equal chance to win, now it's Olbermann's job to change that and narrow the choices down to three
Perhaps they have gone back in the closet. And it's dark in there. They don't know there's light outside. I'm in the light. You're in the light. That's what I care about. Truth seekers, torch bearers and light wielders. Go, Prometheus, go.
Good thinking. I would like to see Gravel have the chance to talk about this episode on national TV with Keith Olbermann. At least he deserves 5 to 15 minutes to explain to his supporters what happened and how it could happen.
MSNBC has cameras in New Hampshire right now. They can very well go to Gravel's website to see where he will be speaking and set up an interview live from NH on Countdown. This is very regular and easy to accomplish so there is no reason why they can't have Mike on air to speak to voters.
On Jan 3rd or 4th, MSNBC recently aired almost 1 full minute of video footage of a self proclaimed Grand Warlock (?!) from Mexico announcing his prediction that Hillary would become President. So they can't give Mike airtime to make up for the mistake they made?! PLEASE!!
So ridiculous! I heard a rumor, back in November, that a different magician (put the prediction in a safe) picked Gravel. :D Mike has books being released (Citizen Power in a WEEK), so Mike should get invitations soon, from various networks, hopefully.
How can anyone vote for someone who is a card carrying member of the globalist CFR, the group cheney was president of, like hilary, huck, obama, giuliani and romney.
Olbermann retracted that statement tonight on the air. He apologized to Mike. Apparently someone claiming to be Gravel's campaign manager called MSNBC and said Mike was dropping out.
Search:"Tribute to Mike Gravel: The Modern Day Thomas Paine"
It's an 8 part series on Gravel. You can find it on Overmind25's channel. That series is what made me realize, Mike Gravell should be the next President.
there's no possible way this was an honest mistake. No One from Mikes camp has ever even given a moments thought to him dropping out. After all they've done to sabotage him how can you even consider that anything they say or do is remotely Honest????
it was Chuck Todd doing the voice of Bullwinkle. there couldn't be a lamer excuse then the one Keith gave. "Someone called us and told us that" while they're sitting on a billion dollar budget they cant even verify a phone call? talk about LAME
I like Gravel and Olbermann. Olbermann I guess just made a mistake I guess. I especially love his occasional Special Comments. Gravel oh how I wish he had a bigger following and had a chance to positively affect America. I'm sorry he is just too far outside the box for the masses, as I am. It's a shame, I recently made a donation on his website, it wasn't much, but I gave what I could and I talk him up anytime he comes up. Power to the people!!
This was no mistake. This was a deliberate hit job. There was no confusion about Gravel's intentions. Well before this, he was putting all his campaigning efforts in New Hampshire instead of Iowa because of his limited resources. He even made a video on YouTube explaining his reasons the day before the Iowa caucuses.
Oh, I haven't been keeping up with all that lately. I'm disappointed to here that it seems Olbermann isn't a Gravel fan. I'll try to pay more attention. Thanks for info.
Olberman now claims that someone claiming to be from the campaign called him.
He apologized while still blaming it on the call. The apology would have meant more if he had had Gravel on the show. Not even a photo of him in the background.
I'm not buying that. Did he mention a name or any form of confirmation? I saw the ticker at the bottom of the screem: "His spokesman..."
Can people just call in and alter the news by claiming to be a spokesman for a presidential candidate? Olbermann is not that stupid. This is a badly disguised hit job.
if you're as inactive as Gravel has been defacto "out" - not saying that he's lazy or unmotivated; more people need to commit and donate to his campaign for it to get back in shape; it's on the outs right now
Mike saved your ass from being drafted and slowed down the war machine by getting the environmentalists and the oil co's to agree on the alaskan pipeline. How about you go do something to thank him. He's a real American taking on the strongest corporations in our country by himself. You should be deeply grateful that we're blessed with someone with as much courage and leadership and Mike running for president.

You're not out yet? Coulda fooled me, you irrelevant fossil.
And by the way, a "National Initiative" is a lousy idea. Just ask the residents of California and other western states, who have to live with the aftermath of cockamamie voter initiatives bankrolled by big monied interests. Just because you were a wash-out in US Senate, it doesn't mean we should abandon representative democracy.
Your grandchildrens children will still be paying for these last 8 years of representative democray. Unless of cource you are a recipaient of this gov corruption. Part of the war machine are you?
BTW your children would have been drafted were it not for this man you call a fossil. Unless of course you bought his way out.
This does not surprise me at this point. Mike Gravel will not drop out. Mike Gravel will go the distance and keep moving forward with or without the nomination or the blessing of the MSM. However, I am expecting MSNBC's retraction for their statement.
Right on oldhacks. I am doing my part, and I know your doing yours. Put your thumb and pinky together and give people the sign. Good conversation starter. GRAVEL 2008!

If he doesn't, then we need to feed this story to Bill O. I'm sure he'd love to do a piece on how Olberman screwed up.
gmfutube 4 years ago
Way to go, lets have them investigate this!! and getting Mike's name on fox through Bill O'Reilly sounds good too!

Dear Mike Gravel, Please take your name off the Michigan ballot like the other respectable democratic candidates have.
kendawgg5 4 years ago
respectable? give me a break.
ben4gravel 4 years ago 2
Won't happen. Mike will poll higher in New Hampshire, Michigan and Nevada than he did in Iowa. He will be in this race until the very end. I recommend you to subscribe to Mike's channel (/gravel2008) and learn about the only respectable candidate going in this election.

SO WHO DO YOU SUPPORT
johndownunder 4 years ago
It doesn't matter who I support. The point of my post was that a few candidates have withdrawn their names from our ballot because Michigan broke the primary rules by moving it before Feb 5. As of right now it looks like the ballot choices will be; Hillary Clinton, Mike Gravel, Chris Dodd, uncommitted, write in (Kucinich is currently trying to get his name withdrawn). Not a lot of choices there.
kendawgg5 4 years ago
Sen. Gravel is also the only Democratic candidate on the ballot in Florida, for the very same reasons.

It's not a problem with me. That means he will win Florida!

not to defend Olbermann, but I believe the information was wrongfully handed to him by his pundit cohorts. This guy is the only mainstream media representative barraging rightist rhetoric and jingoism. Otherwise, Gravel rules!
JagArKrig 4 years ago
olbermann is a total hypocrit. watch the link I left in my last comment. Its truly disgusting what he's done. and there is no excuse. NONE all the talking he does about free speech and here he is censoring a veteran that ended the vietnam war and IMPEACHED NIXON!

The MSM media like to point out that Gravel doesn't have much of a chance to win the election, so why are they so frightened by him?
incarnadine256 4 years ago 4
cause Mike Gravel actually DOES have a chance, if you look at it rationally all the candidates have the equal chance to win, now it's Olbermann's job to change that and narrow the choices down to three
uterfan 4 years ago
The point is is that Mike is one of us. If you count out Mike it is exactly the same as counting yourself out.

gravelin08 4 years ago 2
Let's use this opportunity to mobilize around if we can.
I believe we should keep pressure on to find the source of this call. Isn't that a "story" in itself?
gmfutube 4 years ago 4
Good thinking. I would like to see Gravel have the chance to talk about this episode on national TV with Keith Olbermann. At least he deserves 5 to 15 minutes to explain to his supporters what happened and how it could happen.
gravelin08 4 years ago
MSNBC has cameras in New Hampshire right now. They can very well go to Gravel's website to see where he will be speaking and set up an interview live from NH on Countdown. This is very regular and easy to accomplish so there is no reason why they can't have Mike on air to speak to voters.
uterfan 4 years ago
On Jan 3rd or 4th, MSNBC recently aired almost 1 full minute of video footage of a self proclaimed Grand Warlock (?!) from Mexico announcing his prediction that Hillary would become President. So they can't give Mike airtime to make up for the mistake they made?! PLEASE!!
gravelin08 4 years ago
So ridiculous! I heard a rumor, back in November, that a different magician (put the prediction in a safe) picked Gravel. :D Mike has books being released (Citizen Power in a WEEK), so Mike should get invitations soon, from various networks, hopefully.

Olbermann retracted that statement tonight on the air. He apologized to Mike. Apparently someone claiming to be Gravel's campaign manager called MSNBC and said Mike was dropping out.

Olberman said they "double checked" the call.
HOW?
Not by calling Alex to confirm.

Search:"Tribute to Mike Gravel: The Modern Day Thomas Paine"
It's an 8 part series on Gravel. You can find it on Overmind25's channel. That series is what made me realize, Mike Gravell should be the next President.

We need to push a follow up on this crap.
MSNBC needs to be pushed to track down just where this "call" came from.
gmfutube 4 years ago 3
it was Chuck Todd doing the voice of Bullwinkle. there couldn't be a lamer excuse then the one Keith gave. "Someone called us and told us that" while they're sitting on a billion dollar budget they cant even verify a phone call? talk about LAME
oldhacks 4 years ago 2
I like Gravel and Olbermann. Olbermann I guess just made a mistake I guess. I especially love his occasional Special Comments. Gravel oh how I wish he had a bigger following and had a chance to positively affect America. I'm sorry he is just too far outside the box for the masses, as I am. It's a shame, I recently made a donation on his website, it wasn't much, but I gave what I could and I talk him up anytime he comes up. Power to the people!!
peacethinker 4 years ago
This was no mistake. This was a deliberate hit job. There was no confusion about Gravel's intentions. Well before this, he was putting all his campaigning efforts in New Hampshire instead of Iowa because of his limited resources. He even made a video on YouTube explaining his reasons the day before the Iowa caucuses.
BamaGravelian 4 years ago 7
Oh, I haven't been keeping up with all that lately. I'm disappointed to here that it seems Olbermann isn't a Gravel fan. I'll try to pay more attention. Thanks for info.

Olberman, sadly,
is a Real corporate Shit !!!
ChannelMikeG 4 years ago 5
Olberman now claims that someone claiming to be from the campaign called him.
He apologized while still blaming it on the call. The apology would have meant more if he had had Gravel on the show. Not even a photo of him in the background.
gmfutube 4 years ago
I'm not buying that. Did he mention a name or any form of confirmation? I saw the ticker at the bottom of the screem: "His spokesman..."
Can people just call in and alter the news by claiming to be a spokesman for a presidential candidate? Olbermann is not that stupid. This is a badly disguised hit job.
BamaGravelian 4 years ago 2
I agree.
uterfan 4 years ago
He did mention a name, but I didn't recognize it & don't have Tivo.
