Do you have any tips for those of us with thin hair who love the Veronica Lake look ?
the whole pin curling thing is like rocket science to me!!!
what direction, up or pinned to the hear, all the way to the scalp or half way...!!!! I hear that every style has a different set is that true or can you achieve every style from the same set and model it by brushing?
@alinecalves Either direction at first. Just get used to the process. Yes, every style has a different setting but sometimes it doesnt matter at all! All the way to the scalp. Keep brushing if there is frizz. ;-)
Which direction do the pincurls go when you roll them flat on the sides? I'm directionally challenged and was wondering how to do the flat side parts. I guess a better way to ask would be can you alternate them or do they need to be all one direction?
@PistolPacknMama I'll be updating this video soon. Til then, there is a tutorial today 'Shanghai Lily' inspired hairstyle that touches on this point. But it really just depends on the style.
hey Lisa i have a request. You know Gwen Stefani and how she always has eligant vintage hair well in her music video-cool, she has this beautiful short hairstyle were its like pageboy and then it flips out on the side of her face. I dont know how to explain it but check out her music video and you'll see. And since im trying not to use heat, if you can do it with pin curls that would be nice but if not its no big deal. Well thats my request i hope you go with it thank you!
i just used this technique for pin curls. this was my first attempt at them and they came out amazing!!! very helpful video! i will definately be subscribing:)
@daviskrisitna I dont bother pin curling my bangs usually, if I have Bettie Bangs, particularly. I usually leave them out of the set and curl them separately. If you're trying to 'blend' them in w/ the rest of your hair, I'd set the bangs in small velcro or sponge rollers in place of pin curls.
You should make a diagram.. besides the one in the beginning.. because, well, I can't do this. No matter how many times I try. Maybe because my hair is so thick?
@yarrrmateyy I've done a few diagrams...they're no easier to follow than the one in the beginning though. haha. Pin curls are great for thick hair...look at some of those old movie stars...THICK hair! Just takes a lot of work...and not so easy to do on yourself, unfortunately.
I love the way pin curls look, and I feel like it would look really great with my hair-but is it possible for long hair? My hair is about waist length and super thick. Do you have any tips?
@broadwaychic215 heh heh...cut your hair. ;-) just kidding. Really, w/ super long hair the only type of 'pin curl' you can do is a dry pin curl sprayed with a grooming spray. The result will be a loose wave but nothing like this authentic style, unfortunately. Gals just didnt grow their hair out that long in the old days.
@LisaFreemontStreet That's not exactly accurate. I have super long, super thick hair and I pincurl it at least once a month. It comes out great for me. I let my hair air dry a bit after a shower and then I pincurl, let it dry overnight and part of the morning, and take it out.
@itsrizzo I apologize if I misled...most women did not grow their hair out but pin curls are possible with alot of patience. I'd love to see your results!
i Love love love ur vids. I pin curl my hir at night, and it flats nicely with the prettiest curve at the end. I really appreciate ur technique because u explain it well.
@Sunkist147 my hair is very layered in this video. :) This style was meant for layered hair and actually, very few ladies of the era had hair that was not layered.
I would also like to add that I have so much difficulty finding things that will work for my stubborn Chinese/Asian hair. It's basically the straightest hair you could ever find and I never use a straightener. Right now I'm trying to find a setting lotion and will also try making my own setting lotion and see how that works. Another problem is frizz but yet another problem is that product will weigh down my lifeless, straight as a razor hair. I hate my hair!!!! It's not very fine....
@aznfyrepixie Asian hair is the most difficult for holding a set but on the bright side, it is often the most beautiful hair! Try the setting lotion (not like other products of this type). Frizz is expected in this type of set. Keep brushing until it goes away. If it doesnt, your problem may be the actually rolling process. Keep practicing. :)
@LisaFreemontStreet Haha, thanks so much for the tips and just the knowledge that there is someone out there to help me (and other gals). I do have to admit, having black Asian hair means I don't need to dye it black! I love dark hair and go for that whole femme fatale look so at least I never have to worry about dying! There's a salon closing down near my apartment and they are having a clearance sale, I will have to check out their products! Need doublt pronged clips and setting lotion. :D
Hi! When I first started curling my hair a few months ago, I decided to start with hair rollers (the non-spongy, non-heat plastic/metal ones) and they've worked pretty well for me. But I'm interested in trying these out! I am really intimidated by pin curls because after setting my hair in rollers and styling them into victory rolls, I always take FOREVER to do two rolls let alone a whole set. How long does it take you to do a pin curl set?
@aznfyrepixie about 15 to20 minutes depending on the size of the curl I'm going for. If I am super meticulous w/ the setting pattern, it can take a little longer but I rarely am that specific on my own head.
Do you have any tips for really thick long hair, other than buy A LOT of clips? :-) Lets just say it takes almost 2 boxes of hair dye to do just the roots and almost 3 boxes for the whole sha-bang.
@sassiprincess927 Honestly, if you are willing to buy three boxes of dye to color your hair, you are SUPER committed to long hair and there is not much that I can recommend. These styles are simply not meant for super long hair and even with a bunch of clips, I can't see that the pincurls would work for you.
@LisaFreemontStreet Yeah, I am a fan of the long hair. I think I am going to try the heat sticks (2 sets, HA) and try the victory roll from there. Thanks so much for the quick reply! I really enjoy watching your vids. And btw, I don't know how you do it, but your eyes and around eye area always look so bright. I am going to hunt around on your tutorials to see if you have any vids on how you make that happen.
@sassiprincess927 Keep in mind that victory rolls were a way of dressing up the traditional 40's haircut, which was rarely longer than shoulder length. You can certainly do the rolls but with very long hair, they tend to look more Victorian than 40's. Check out Ilovegerardo's tutorials for an example. Nicandjethro has a really good long hair rolls tutorial as well. Not sure about the eyes...I think it's just concealer. :)

this video helped me sooooo much. i always put gel or a bit of hairspray in the curls and always did it right out of the shower and the results were always TERRIBLE :o thank you soooo much for this video! perfect!<3
I already have curly hair, but I somethimes like to use a curl set .I've tried to get the whole pin up hair but I don't know which way to place the curler. What do you think I should do?
I'm so excited to try the pincurl set for victory rolls that I watched you do yesterday. My hair is so fine that I've never been able to achieve them. I'm still trying to figure out what to do with my bangs though...they're side-swept and the shortest piece comes down to my eye, which i normally straighten (i'm naturlly curly).
@mooooogrl many people will tell you that the hair needs to be moist from root to tip but that really depends on the look you are going for. I've found that most 40's styles can be achieved on this dampened set. :)
I'd love to do this where I'm at now, but it's terribly humid!!! I stopped using the curling iron a long time ago b/c 5 minutes later it would fall apart and go limp!
Is there anything I can use (products) that will delay the humidity hair "limp"???
@TheLORDismySheperd1 since this is not a heated set, it should withstand the humidity. Use a setting lotion before hand (while hair is wet) then blow dry and spray each section damp as the video shows. The curls should hold up!
I also got to say one more thing. I have tried to do pincurls once by using bobbypins and I slept with it over the night but when I took them out they turned out to be really, really frizzy and dry.
Hey Lisa (: I've now watched this video a couple of times to really get what you are doing and what youre saying so that I'm not mistaking anything. I noticed that you mentioned a anti-frizz product or something like that called "Wonder 8 oil" and I was wondering, would any other kind of anti-frizz products work as good as the wonder 8 oil or what ? I would be really greatful If you would take some time to answer my question.
If your hair has a tendency to frizz, try some anti-frizz serum while it's wet (if you're rolling from wet) or on the ends only, if you're spraying ti damp. Try different things and see what works for you. Don't give up!
Ok stupid question; I have SUPER thick curly/wavy hair already so do I even need a pincurl set? Would I get a much "cleaner" curl regardless of me already having curls?
Again sorry for the stupid question, I'm just very curious.
I would say 'there's so such thing as a stupid question' but I've learned that's just not the case. LOL Anyway, YOUR question is not stupid! I would try blowing your hair out straight and using hot rollers to see what type of effect you get. Also try 'water waving', as seen in my Veronica Lake tutorial and just flat ironing a curve into the bottom? I'm anxious to see how it goes for you! :)
This was hard and painful on my arms! My culrs got better as I went along though. Also, you can get those double prong clips at any beuty supply store (I found mine at Sally's Beauty Supply).
I have not tried it yet, but an older lady customer of mine (I work at a Walgreens) wanted setting cream for her rollers, but we didn't carry any. She used this stuff we sell called Spray It Curly. She came back in and it looked pretty good! Thought I'd just put that out there in case anyone wants to try it. She was using rollers though.
Just want to say thank you. I did pin curls, not the same way as yours but the result was the same. I had never heard of pin curls. Did my whole head of hair in them.
Best curls I have ever had. They lasted for 3 days and I got a couple of different styles out of them. I have tried rollers but not the same affect. I didn't use any product, just sprayed the pieces with water. Thanks so much.
ah, I know this is an old vid, but I wanted to tell you that I've started using a spray bottle on dry hair rather than rolling on wet hair, and it works so much better!!
Whenever I did pin curls on wet hair I would have a wicked tough kink where I would lay the pin curl....and now I don't!
I'm glad. I still feel like I'm cheating somehow...Lauren Rennells does her's on wet hair (per her book) and I hate that I can't make it work on wet hair like she does. So beautiful. Ah well. Perhaps I'll keep trying.
Sorry this could be THE SAME ANSWER but just to let me understand the TYPE of lotion that you suggest for pin curls..cause I tried with GEL which is good for duration of curl but it s too hard to brush and make hair no soft at all...maybe a wax ?
I use Lottabody Setting Lotion. You buy it at Sally's...it is a liquid, more than a lotion, and you dilute it with water. You just spray it on before you roll. :)
Hello awesome tutorial - any advice on how to make it last longer, my curls falls out after an hour or so :( I love this effect but really want it to last longer....
Have you tried pin curls? I've never heard of pin curls falling out after an hour. Mine usually last for days. :) Try using a setting lotion mixed w/ the water.
Ms Lisa Thankyou for posting this. I did your version and it frizzed so I just wanted to let ya know that with my ultra fine hair completely drenched worked better.
Do you have any tips for doing a pin curl on naturally curly hair? I usually avoid this kind of set as I've experienced a great deal of trouble with it.
You would have to straighten it first and then spray it w/ a setting lotion solution. Either way, heat will be necessary to get the curl out of your hair. :) Then you can either use this technique or hot rollers...
lol, doesnt manic panic make your hair softer? i love it! i used the manic panic midnight blue for 4 years and everyone always talked about how soft it is even though its dyed
I saw this tutorial this morning and I had to do it, so now I'm sitting here, writing this comment, with gorgeous 40's hair. It didn't came out as I would've liked it, but for first try it's pretty good. Thank you for making these videos, they're amazing!
Oh, Im glad! Do you have a photo? If so, I will be happy to help you determine what to do next time to make it better. With the editing in my videos, it's impossible to include every tip for every hair type. ;0)
Love your videos, you do such a clear job thanks! One question, I have hair that is approaching waist length, is this just too long for good pin curls? My length just doesn't seem period correct. :(
I tried doing the pin curls on my hair yesterday and I am proud to say that I did it and the curls came out great!! Very proud of myself because I was ready to give up but then I got the hang of it!! So my fellow long hair girls it is possible!! Thanks for your videos!!
Thank you so much for doing these videos, they are so helpful and so much fun to watch! I pretty much think that your pin curls are genius. Also, you have done such a good job with your authentic hair techniques from the 40's.
Lisa, I tried this technique last night and my hair came out GORGEOUS! I loved it, my husband loved it and even my sons who only care about games and cars, loved it! WOW! Thanks for the video and keep 'em coming.
Whenever I use the double pronged pin curl clips, I always have the problem of my hair knotting around the spring part of the clip and end up ruining my hair. Do you have that problem? Do you have any suggestions as to how to prevent that? Perhaps it is b/c I usually do it with completely wet hair? I love your idea of dry then sprayed damp hair! I'll try that soon!
And another thing....when you said that the 40s styles required layers... the different inch cuts like the 6 inch cut for example.. are they all one length all the way around or do they have layers on the end or something?
I'm posting a video about the middy haircut today. But if you go back thru my videos, you'll see one on my channel homepage that shows a thumbnail of Ingrid Bergman and says 'retro vintage hair tips' beneath it. That video discusses the hair cut somewhat. Subscribe and you'll automatically be notified when today's video posts. Thanks!
how should i get my hair cut for these styles and what is the best length for these styles? what should i tell the hairdresser and if you could send a picture that would be great! :)
thank you so much! i have tried a few hairstyles and they have worked out fairly well but i want to make sure i have the right haircut....i do the 1940s style clothing and everything everyday so i want to make sure and get the hair right...thanks! i appreciate it!
if you had mentioned it, i didn't hear/see it sorry. but thanks, i'll have to look them up i would like to get some. and it's ok you don't remember the seller, i'm sure there are a lot of people selling them. hope all is good, talk to you later
It is a semi permanant hair dye. It stains the hair and does not cause damage but requires some care to apply. I have two videos on the product, if you check back thru my product review playlist.
What kind of pins are those? I've used bobby pins before and gotten a similar end product but it's not nearly as good as these. Did they come as a set?
awesome vid! i don't have a curling iron and have been using the pin curl technique for a few weeks now. there is definitely a difference! i'm one of the brave ones with the bandana going grocery shopping. lol my neighbors must think i'm nuts!
The first three times I tried pincurls it didnt work either. I found the technique that works for me and I think it's a good one but like anything, it requires hands on practice. :)
I have a problem with frizz also and found that if you use Wonder 8 Oil (very sparingly) it does not frizz as much and actually conditions the hair as well. I love it and it is cheap as well only like 3 dollars at walmart
These videos are amazing! Thank you SO MUCH! I have my hair all clipped up in pin curls right now and I'm sitting under an old bonnet hair dryer. I hope it works! :D
Last fall it was platinum blonde (my natural hair color is dark blonde). I had it colored red early this year. Thanks! It's faded badly right now. I'm going to have to break out the Manic Panic again.
Do you think this would still work if i have layers that are about.. right at the middle-ish of my ear? The rest of my hair is about a tiny bit above. or maybe even below arm-pit length. If that makes any sense at all?
Love your video, it's incredibly helpful. I tried these last weekend and it worked really well except I came down with a bad case of the frizzies. My hair is very fine and putties are generally to heavy, I was wondering if there was anything else you might recommend for taming my hair.
Thanks! Yeah, the frizzies are a potential problem and mine did it too, at first. After a few tries, the frizzies went away based on a few key factors: starting out w/ dry hair and spraying (which I'm sure you did), using larger sections (if you made your curls big, do them even bigger next time), and using an anti-frizz serum afterwards. Frizz ease has a good one and so does Tre Semme'. Keep me posted! I really want this to work for you...:)
Ooh, I do keep some FrizzEase serum around, I'll try that! Thanks! Hoping to do this style for a formal event on the 28th, will let you know how it goes!
Thank you so much for making videos about pin curls. I've been interested in trying them for a while but could only find diagrams online (which are kind of intimidating). Your videos answered a lot of questions I had and made the process easy to understand. BTW, I thought the color of the walls accented your hair color nicely!
haha...all my walls in my house are bright...they do make excellent backdrops for photography! :D I'm happy to help out where I can, w/ these videos. . I've got a new series coming where I will be attempting authentic techniques for some of the 1940's styles using an actual book from the era that I just bought...you'll be able to be there as I try them out so that we can learn together! So stay tuned!
Haha. Most people don't know that song is from The Wizard of Oz since it was cut from the final product, but it's far and away the best one from the movie. :)
haha. Point taken. However, i did feel that in this particular video there were things that should be stated and questions that should be answered. Hopefully the fact that ninety percent of my videos have no talking at all will make things even out. :)
One day I'm going to attempt pincurls. Are they annoying to sleep in? My best sets last when my hair is wet and I sleep in the curlers so I was wondering.
I don't like sleeping in them. I like sleeping in pillow or sponge rollers but I use pincurls as a three or four hour set during the day. Sleeping on them is tricky as the curls can be crushed since there is no 'form' holding them.
Yeah silly me, I posted this before watching the last minute of your video hah. After your advice, I still haven't been putting product in my hair when I do a cold set, the only trouble is within a few hours my hair starts to get stringy from the hairspray and falls a bit flat. Any suggestions? Or do I just brush it throughout the day? :/
Try an anti-humidity hairspray also. I wouldnt brush it throughout the day but you might try using a lightweight mousse and see how that works for you.
Tank you SO much for this video! I've been struggling with frizzy hair, after brushing out pin curls. I tried to do a bit bigger sections and larger curls, and that worked better with my thin, fine hair.
I'm really looking forward to see the video with the result and styling options! I don't really know how to brush my pin curls out, so, I'm very excited about the video! Thanks again!
you remind me of skyler from breaking bad

Have you tried using coconut oil? It's all natural and it does wonders on my hair which is naturally curly/wavy/frizzy.
PsychicOtaku182 1 year ago 2
@PsychicOtaku182 oils are far too heavy for my fine thin straight hair. :( But this is a good tip for coarse or curly hair.

I already have curly hair, but I somethimes like to use a curl set .I've tried to get the whole pin up hair but I don't know which way to place the curler. What do you think I should do?

@macabrechaos... I love Ariel's hair. I'm assuming you mean the color. :)
LisaFreemontStreet 1 year ago
I'm so excited to try the pincurl set for victory rolls that I watched you do yesterday. My hair is so fine that I've never been able to achieve them. I'm still trying to figure out what to do with my bangs though...they're side-swept and the shortest piece comes down to my eye, which i normally straighten (i'm naturlly curly).
mooooogrl 1 year ago
@mooooogrl mine weere about that length in the video, I believe. Just spray them up and curve them around so that they blend w/ the roll.
LisaFreemontStreet 1 year ago
I've never thought of just misting the ends of the hair! Brilliant!
mooooogrl 1 year ago
@mooooogrl many people will tell you that the hair needs to be moist from root to tip but that really depends on the look you are going for. I've found that most 40's styles can be achieved on this dampened set. :)
LisaFreemontStreet 1 year ago
I'd love to do this where I'm at now, but it's terribly humid!!! I stopped using the curling iron a long time ago b/c 5 minutes later it would fall apart and go limp!
Is there anything I can use (products) that will delay the humidity hair "limp"???
Thanks!!!
TheLORDismySheperd1 1 year ago
@TheLORDismySheperd1 since this is not a heated set, it should withstand the humidity. Use a setting lotion before hand (while hair is wet) then blow dry and spray each section damp as the video shows. The curls should hold up!

I also got to say one more thing. I have tried to do pincurls once by using bobbypins and I slept with it over the night but when I took them out they turned out to be really, really frizzy and dry.
xMarinaDisasterx 2 years ago
Hey Lisa (: I've now watched this video a couple of times to really get what you are doing and what youre saying so that I'm not mistaking anything. I noticed that you mentioned a anti-frizz product or something like that called "Wonder 8 oil" and I was wondering, would any other kind of anti-frizz products work as good as the wonder 8 oil or what ? I would be really greatful If you would take some time to answer my question.
xMarinaDisasterx 2 years ago
If your hair has a tendency to frizz, try some anti-frizz serum while it's wet (if you're rolling from wet) or on the ends only, if you're spraying ti damp. Try different things and see what works for you. Don't give up!
LisaFreemontStreet 2 years ago
would it make a difference if you were to use a blow dryer to dry the curls the let them air dry?
northerngirl780 2 years ago
It's best to use a hooded dryer or let them air dry. Your arm would get TIRED, if you tried to use your typical blow dryer.

I have really thick hair is it possible to still get great pin curls
niebunny 2 years ago
Ok stupid question; I have SUPER thick curly/wavy hair already so do I even need a pincurl set? Would I get a much "cleaner" curl regardless of me already having curls?
Again sorry for the stupid question, I'm just very curious.
Love the videos :)
lilsilverstar4u 2 years ago
I would say 'there's so such thing as a stupid question' but I've learned that's just not the case. LOL Anyway, YOUR question is not stupid! I would try blowing your hair out straight and using hot rollers to see what type of effect you get. Also try 'water waving', as seen in my Veronica Lake tutorial and just flat ironing a curve into the bottom? I'm anxious to see how it goes for you! :)
LisaFreemontStreet 2 years ago
This was hard and painful on my arms! My culrs got better as I went along though. Also, you can get those double prong clips at any beuty supply store (I found mine at Sally's Beauty Supply).
meishel12 2 years ago
It does get easier. Also, I'm not kidding, my arms are more toned since I started doing pin curls regularly. Seriously. So there's a good thing!
LisaFreemontStreet 2 years ago
Awesome! Thanks! Can't wait to try this!
She was using rollers though.

crystallight1991 2 years ago
Yes, pincurls work on any length hair. :)
LisaFreemontStreet 2 years ago
Just want to say thank you. I did pin curls, not the same way as yours but the result was the same. I had never heard of pin curls. Did my whole head of hair in them.
Best curls I have ever had. They lasted for 3 days and I got a couple of different styles out of them. I have tried rollers but not the same affect. I didn't use any product, just sprayed the pieces with water. Thanks so much.

Yea...short hair and pincurls don't go together in my opinion(my hairs finally longer)
gnarrz 2 years ago 2
ah, I know this is an old vid, but I wanted to tell you that I've started using a spray bottle on dry hair rather than rolling on wet hair, and it works so much better!!
Whenever I did pin curls on wet hair I would have a wicked tough kink where I would lay the pin curl....and now I don't!
:-)
RockabillyVegan 2 years ago
I'm glad. I still feel like I'm cheating somehow...Lauren Rennells does her's on wet hair (per her book) and I hate that I can't make it work on wet hair like she does. So beautiful. Ah well. Perhaps I'll keep trying.

The double prong pin curl clips can be found at stores where they sell weaves and stuff for black girls and they are like $4 for 100 of them.
texaspinup 2 years ago
Sorry this could be THE SAME ANSWER but just to let me understand the TYPE of lotion that you suggest for pin curls..cause I tried with GEL which is good for duration of curl but it s too hard to brush and make hair no soft at all...maybe a wax ?
redstrychnine 2 years ago
I use Lottabody Setting Lotion. You buy it at Sally's...it is a liquid, more than a lotion, and you dilute it with water. You just spray it on before you roll. :)
LisaFreemontStreet 2 years ago
Some pin curl tips I remember:
A very thin setting lotion which dried fast, The bottle had a hole in the top to pour over your comb when damp setting.
Razor cut or "tapered" hair bent with rollers and pin curl sets - so, fewer "whale tails"
If you are adventurous, get on down to your local cosmetology school for a cheap set.

Hello awesome tutorial - any advice on how to make it last longer, my curls falls out after an hour or so :( I love this effect but really want it to last longer....
e. x x
umanoodle 2 years ago
Have you tried pin curls? I've never heard of pin curls falling out after an hour. Mine usually last for days. :) Try using a setting lotion mixed w/ the water.
LisaFreemontStreet 2 years ago
I've been pin curling my hair for a while now and they used to last me for three days without doing anything at night.
However nowadays they also fall after one hour or so.
I'm pretty sure it's the shampoo that's doing that. So make sure you use a good shampoo!

Do you have any tips for doing a pin curl on naturally curly hair? I usually avoid this kind of set as I've experienced a great deal of trouble with it.
modernkitten 2 years ago
You would have to straighten it first and then spray it w/ a setting lotion solution. Either way, heat will be necessary to get the curl out of your hair. :) Then you can either use this technique or hot rollers...
LisaFreemontStreet 2 years ago
I've got wavy hair, and I get good results even without straightening it first.
Just make sure the hair is well dry, and try using a tiny bit of a good hair spray in each curl.
After you remove the pins use a bit of cerum to help you comb it out and to add a softer look to the hair.
Hope this helps

Whenever I use the double pronged pin curl clips, I always have the problem of my hair knotting around the spring part of the clip and end up ruining my hair. Do you have that problem? Do you have any suggestions as to how to prevent that? Perhaps it is b/c I usually do it with completely wet hair? I love your idea of dry then sprayed damp hair! I'll try that soon!
Chainsawlove06 2 years ago
That happens sometimes w/ me but I can usually avoid it by not sleeping in the curls and being very careful when I remove the clips.
LisaFreemontStreet 2 years ago
Could you send me a link to that video with more vintage hair tips you said you were going to post tomorrow?
MegaGoofygirl 2 years ago
And another thing....when you said that the 40s styles required layers... the different inch cuts like the 6 inch cut for example.. are they all one length all the way around or do they have layers on the end or something?
MegaGoofygirl 2 years ago
I'm posting a video about the middy haircut today. But if you go back thru my videos, you'll see one on my channel homepage that shows a thumbnail of Ingrid Bergman and says 'retro vintage hair tips' beneath it. Can you blow dry the pincurls, or will that cause frizz??

I wouldnt blow it dry unless you have a blow dryer w/ a very low setting AND a diffuser. A hooded dryer is , of course, ideal.

what the heck is manic panic? :) is it like really strong gel/product/putty?
sexicopilot 2 years ago
It is a semi permanant hair dye. It stains the hair and does not cause damage but requires some care to apply. I have two videos on the product, if you check back thru my product review playlist.
LisaFreemontStreet 2 years ago
What kind of pins are those? I've used bobby pins before and gotten a similar end product but it's not nearly as good as these. Did they come as a set?

These work much better for me! They are called double pronged alligator clips. You can get them on ebay in bulk for next to nothing!!

Aethia 2 years ago
No...it will not be the same. Pincurls give you an entirely different TYPE of curl when the hair is damp.

Hi, I was just wondering if you roll the curl up or down? Love the color, by the way. :)
Persuasion003 2 years ago

I have a problem with frizz also and found that if you use Wonder 8 Oil (very sparingly) it does not frizz as much and actually conditions the hair as well. I love it and it is cheap as well only like 3 dollars at walmart

It should work fine. :)
LisaFreemontStreet 2 years ago

bloodstaindbeauty 2 years ago
Love your video, it's incredibly helpful. I tried these last weekend and it worked really well except I came down with a bad case of the frizzies. My hair is very fine and putties are generally to heavy, I was wondering if there was anything else you might recommend for taming my hair.
Thanks again!
ladimcbeth 2 years ago
LisaFreemontStreet 2 years ago
Ooh, I do keep some FrizzEase serum around, I'll try that! Thanks! Hoping to do this style for a formal event on the 28th, will let you know how it goes!

Put the mousse onwhen it is still damp but comb it through thoroughly before rolling. I haven't tried mousse. I don't recommend gel.
LisaFreemontStreet 3 years ago
One day I'm going to attempt pincurls. Are they annoying to sleep in? My best sets last when my hair is wet and I sleep in the curlers so I was wondering.
NaiveMelodiess 3 years ago
I don't like sleeping in them. I like sleeping in pillow or sponge rollers but I use pincurls as a three or four hour set during the day. Sleeping on them is tricky as the curls can be crushed since there is no 'form' holding them.
LisaFreemontStreet 3 years ago
Yeah silly me, I posted this before watching the last minute of your video hah. After your advice, I still haven't been putting product in my hair when I do a cold set, the only trouble is within a few hours my hair starts to get stringy from the hairspray and falls a bit flat. Any suggestions? Or do I just brush it throughout the day? :/
NaiveMelodiess 3 years ago
Try an anti-humidity hairspray also. I wouldnt brush it throughout the day but you might try using a lightweight mousse and see how that works for you.
LisaFreemontStreet 3 years ago
Have you ever tried these with a bonnet dryer? Does it cause frizz?
