  • im ashamed to say that i found this song from watch tropic thunder(great movie)

  • and the band played on favorite part of this song that is the man

  • AHHHHHHHHHHHHH YES ONE OF THE TEMPTS BEST . A GOOD MESSAGE IN THIS SONG.

  • Not fair that Dennis Edwards(sang 80% of tempts tracks) and the lead here is not featured in this presentation-..."politicians would say more taxes would solve everything..

  • @apofields you're right but at the time I couldn't find any single shots of Dennis on line it was just a lack of pictures thing no disrespect to Dennis Edwards by no means

  • This was the Tempts way of rapping before rapping became famous.

  • I made a comment on this song a few minutes ago. But (as I listen to it again) I have to make another one. If this isn't genius. If this isn't classic. If it isn't every high and low note in music. If this isn't just about every damn thing music could ask for... well, if it could get any better, it'd be twins...

  • @MegaYoung54 I feel ya you just can't beat that old school music

  • This is the only song (I think) that I can sing all the words to. How bout' that? But then again... I've had 40 years to memorize it. Oh well.

  • Dennis Edwards you are THE MAN!!

  • tell this song doesn't fit better today then back in the day. the words are about know. a prophetic song. love that bass

  • anthrax covered this song in the 90s' on a rare b-side cd, and ive just rediscovered the temptations. god bless amazing music.

  • Occupy _________. This applies to today! Listen up!

  • "Vote for me, and I'll set you free!!" I'm 61 now. and I've heard that one a time or two. Believe me.

  • @gotch09

I'm curious... I mean, Bush signed the Patriot act, and started the war and killed Saddam Hussein, and, Obama signed the... Something-something Defence Bill, and continued the war and also killing Osama Bin Laden... Have the republicans and democrats always been so, well... Identical?

  • @TheFacelessActivist Well, back in the 60's politics was still a little entertaining. You didn't have to watch a comedy with canned laughter. Politics could supply all the laughs you needed.

  • @gotch09

That sounds pretty neat, I mean, I read about some of the funny stuff, like, Tricky Dicky's speech on not being a crook, or, how Gerald Ford tried to pin Frank Sinatra as a commie, but... No canned laughter? I'd give up my computer and geopolitical stability for that. Canned laughter is just an insult to people's intelligence, man.

  • @TheFacelessActivist Well, canned laughter is a insult to say, perhaps say-a squirrel. But, now I remember. In like 68 or 69 (somewhere in there) Tricky Dick actually appeared on a tv program called "Laugh-In. His big line was "Sock it to me". I'm serious.

  • @gotch09

Really? That's pretty funny. Too bad nobody actually complied, though.

  • @TheFacelessActivist I think by August of '74, EVERYBODY wanted to "sock it" to Tricky Dick with a real big ass stick.

  • this is real music!

  • tropic thunder brought me here..^^

  • This is Vietnam War protest music!

  • In the winter of 1969, an elite squad of U.S. Soldiers were sent on a top secret assignment in Southeast Vietnam.

Their mission: Rescue Sergeant Four Leaf Tayback from a heavily guarded N.V.A. prison camp. Their mission was considered to near suicide.

Of the 10 men sent, 4 returned.

Of those 4, 3 wrote books of what happened.

Of those 3, 2 were published.

Of those 2, just one got a movie deal.

This is the story of the men who attempted to make that movie.

  • LISTEN TO THE WORDS ITS TRUE TO DAY AS IT WAS 40 YRS AGO.

  • One of the most bad ass songs out there-EVER. I'm 61 and I ought to know.

  • Probably one of my favorite temptation's songs. Very powerful with a funky beat. and that bass and guitar in the beginning makes me shiver every time :D

  • lov growin up listenin to MOTOWN.... im white but lov this shyt!

  • this has been my all time favorite since i was 4 years old back then

  • @jody808 the good stuff never dies

  • @jody808 i know right man, this song always turns my brain on.

  • Sister act 2 ftw -___-

  • TROPIC THUNDER!!!!!

  • Eazy E ' Eazy duz it

  • he was wants a thug around the world eazy

  • LOVE the purple suits

  • America is not a country but a corporation,

  • "Politicians say 'more taxes will solve everthing!''" Some things never change.

  • @AllBobsAllTheTime Fa Sure

  • This is our state of government today - Tea party, Repugs, Dems, ultra right...

  • Young folks walk around with

    Their heads in the sky

Cities aflame in the summer time

    And, the beat goes on

Could have been written for the 2011 UK Riots...

  • @TroyConvers5000 evolution revolution gun control sound soul

  • @weluvmusick right on

  • @TroyConvers5000

Who cares about riots? It's like a carnival for angry people.

We deserve a chance to have fun for putting up with regular folks all the time...

You think you're so great with your cellphone-yammering and clogging up the damn line deciding what you wanna order EVEN THOUGH YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO FIGURE THAT OUT WHILST YOU'RE WAITING IN THE DAMN LINE! But no... You just had to look at the tiny pictures on the menu for three minutes before going "Hmmm... I'll have the usual.".

  • @TheFacelessActivist How rebellious. in a conformist sort of way. Another person who thinks he isn't part of the system. Meh.

  • @TroyConvers5000

How bla, bla, bla... in a bla, bla, bla sort of bla... Do bla, bla,bla... hurr-hurr! Ahem...

Now that I got my pretentious nonsense out of the way: Time to dispel your prejudices. I do think I am part of the system, which is why I don't like it.

Otherwise I would be indifferent towards it, so take that, you flabbergasting yahoo!

  • @TroyConvers5000

Edit: Actually, what I meant to say was "Flabbergastingly yahoo", otherwise it's an adjective, which, would make it a compliment.

    Good day.

  • Who here remembers 1970 and how the world was back then?

  • y (ball of confusion) than it did back then. just my opinion. thanks funk brothers

  • love these guys they go so hard this music is the stuff lol

  • "People moving out....people moving in".....reminds me of how several members of this group leave and new members come in to fill in the void.

With that said...the David Ruffin Temptations from 1964-1968 and the Dennis Edwards Temptations of 1968-1971 were the best group.

  • do the sounds in the beginning kinda freak anyone out? but u still freakin love this song?!

  • Best singing group of all time. And only 1 is still living... so sad when you think about it.

  • @kingdarius1991 Its two if you include Dennis, who is still alive and well. Not an orginal member I know but a member none the less.

  • Tropic Thunder

  • no only is the group's outstanding vocal diversity showcased, this music is soooo rich, listen to the arrangement- the horns, the percussion, the harmonica, the driving rhythmic section, with of course the magnificent lyrics, and Norman Whitfield's count-down. just fantastic, black folks just dont make music like this anymore.

  • But through all the turmoil, hatred and confusion..."the band plays on" (thank goodness!)

  • @cleteconnor can't stop the band

  • This song was so far ahead of its time!!

  • @trojanluck88 this song was the same as other songs back in the day, message wise. no one can equal the temptations, but the song had the same theme as most other songs during the time.

  • @HSECMAN I agree but this one seem to have covered a wider range of topics than some of the others

  • this songs has so much to say on so many level's

  • This song works just as much as it did back in the 70's.

  • @MsMaddieM just goes to show you that the world is just one big cycle of events

  • @weluvmusick This song was released on Motown's Gordy Records label as Gordy 7099 in May of 1970. This song is also on the Singing Machine's "Motown Master Recordings- Original Artist Karaoke" karaoke CD collection.

  • @MsMaddieM i totally agree

  • 1...2...1.2.3.4. owwww

  • 6 people don't know good music (or maybe they're just hard of hearing).

Excellent tune by an epic group. Thanks for posting!

  • almost everyone here is here cuz they saw this on tropic thunder, right?

  • @attacko182 Not me. I just love Motown. :-)

  • @FaerieCrone meh, that cool. im like fourteen soooo i wasnt around. btw i live in Motown :P

  • @attacko182 motown music isn't just music, but music from the soul, its not for any age group. and i'm proud to say i'm 15, and i listen to motown.

  • and the played on....

  • i luv dis song it took me awhile 2 find i just luv ever since i saw it on da movie my fav song :)

  • I loved this on Sister Act II

  • run chris run! XD

  • This song is applicaple from 1914 on...just getting worse.

  • Strange how the world is still the same crappy place.....

  • @TyneeBafflez the song was truly ahead of it's time

  • @weluvmusick Not really, it just shows that not much changes, the status quo lives on.

  • @rpanting1 you may have a point one thing for sure in that songs still holds true today is politicians still think that more taxes will solve everything

  • @TyneeBafflez

The world is perfect. Imagine a place without problems, bad guys, lies and scams... I'd have no reason to wake up in the mornings.

  • Am i the only 14 year old that knows this song? lol

  • @keyboardgirl123 No. I was listening to the temptations before I was a teen.

  • @keyboardgirl123

Yes, yes you are. You are so pretentiously unique in manifesting the knowledge of this song at your age. You and you only, and by doing so you render yourself the pinnacle of human ambiguity! Con-fucking-gratulations on being so unique and special as opposed to all others simply by conveying this music. Nobody else can measure to the magnificent cognitive nature bestowed upon you, the great visionary of today's day and age!

...Give me a fucking break, won't you?

  • Some shit never changes.

  • @DrRebelFilms

    and the band played on...

  • God I love this song.

  • There is no other sound in music like 60s Motown. It was my favorite music then and it's my favorite music now.

  • @Dulcimerbreezes not like the temptations for sure David Dennis Eddie & Paul & Blue were the voices

  • @weluvmusick i thought paul died before they did this song?

  • @zorbak138 That could be true those pictures are not consistent with the songs I just uses whatever I can find I don't think David Ruffin was on that song either hey Ottis Williams hire and fired so many singers it's really hard to keep up with them all but thanks for your input

  • @zorbak138 -- "the sale of pills are at an all time high, etc..." that is the one and only Paul Williams.

  • @smilnrt that sounds like Paul to me

  • @weluvmusick The lineup at the time of this song were ; - Dennis Edwards, Eddie Kendricks, Paul Williams, Otis Williams and Melvin Franklin.

  • @Dulcimerbreezes ...ISN"T THIS THE TRUTH !!!!

I have been putting together a bunch of stuff for my Sunday School teens.....Motown helped me find Jesus...and get thru the troubles of that day...we're in the same place again! So I'm making a mix in hopes that I can bring these messages back....( and It also makes me feel young again...55 stinks ya know!)

  • @burgertube1 aw no 55 isn't so bad surely it's not as exciting as 25 buy you can still enjoy it

  • R.I.P. to most of the classical 5 <3

  • Join me all working class citizens in fighting the man and his capitalism that come with the injustices of free enterprise allowing business owners to treat their employees however they want!!!!!!! I say the employee has a right to what goes on in the workplace, how the workplace is run and how they're treated in the workplace!!!!!! Join my fight if you feel my need to change this country for the good of the people!!!! Viva La Revolution

  • this is real music, new music has no meaning. Justin Bieber has nothing better to sing about other then some girl (he sure put in a lot of work serenading her when he lip syncs). This is a song with a strong purpose and the singers actually use their voices, so i give props to this song and all other music from the turbulent time of the 60s and 70s.

  • yummy

  • TROPC THUNDER FTW!!!

  • One of my personal favorites!

  • si

  • This song could have been written yesterday, the words are so relevent for today

  • people bitchin' about politics...and in 40 years, nothings changed.

  • @paddlesailnitro Because humans naturally form groups and compete on ALL levelas and in ALL aspects of life= Just more proof that humans evolved, and were not created, as all the competing religions want to believe. Forget religion, it's a myth.

  • tropic thunder and everybody hates chris brought me hear

  • Norman's song was prophetic for the times we are living in. And this includes today's issues.....

  • tropic thunder brought me here

  • we did dis in da 4th grade boy those were da good times at north birmingham elementary in 2008

  • at skol they made us learn this song

  • 40 years later and we haven't changed that much...just more broke!! Great, great song by the Emperors of Soul!! They were the masters of lyrics and harmony!! The rich still run this country and the poor are getting poorer and larger in numbers. We middle class blue collar workers are the ones who are bearing the load and in jeopardy of being added to the poverty level...time for a REVOLUTION!!!

  • temps fix for the day...ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh !!

  • tropic thunder! so funny! good song!

  • @johnnyxultimate didn't let it play long enough. & the helicopters drowned it out.

  • Doesn't seem like a whole lot has changed!

  • wow. the more things change, the more they stay the same.

  • @SesheniAda True. Very True.

  • This was the first song to send a shiver down my spine ,and it started a lifelong love affair with great music,It still has that wow factor 40+years later, brilliant!!!!

  • @thepurplecockney this song was way ahead of it's time for sure this is a Norman Withfield's Classic he brought the psychedelic sound to motown something that Eddie Kendricks didn't care that much for but Norman was always brainstorming new sounds

  • @weluvmusick "Rap on, brother, rap on". Can you dig it? Time travel.

  • @thepurplecockney The Great Googa Mooga line -- gives me goose bumps too.

  • I remember these times like it was yesterday. I remember music critics gloryfying the British invasion bands like somehow they were musically saving us and I wondered.............. from what?

These guys were awesome and if the Beatles hadn't opened the door for the rest of those British copy-cat bands.......................SO WHAT? Motown had some heavy hitters that made most of those bands look like amatuers!

  • This song means the same today.

What a shame that we don't get with it.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • @GeorgeVreelandHill dead right brother. crazy where i am at the min,and will be for years to come.

  • is this song pro tea party? the one line goes 'politicians say taxes will solve everything'. This is a conservative anti tax sentiment.

  • @cloudbuster77 maybe

  • @cloudbuster77 No. It also says something about "tax deductions" later on. The song just describes a bunch of things that can be considered bad, and that's why the world is a ball of confusion.

  • @cloudbuster77 It's more of them commenting on the fact that's what politicians say, not necessarily that they agree.

  • Mind Blowin, more true today than then. Wow. I remember this song well. As a young man it was one of my favorites. I thought of it today with things as messed up as they are, and thought I am going to listen to that song and see how well I remember. Not as well as I thought. More real than then to me now.

  • @HearYeHim AHEAD OF THEIR TIME FOR SURE

  • And we're still in confusion.what a sad situation.

  • @1ooman without a doubt

  • @1ooman Indeed we are. No matter gets elected after today's votes are tallied, this song will still be more than applicable to this screwed up world.

  • Man, this song reminds me of my grandpa... he loved him some Temptations (: We listened to it while he told his Vietnam story. Great shit.

  • "And the band played on..."

  • As relevant today as 40 years ago!

  • @Smanuto

    DAMN RIGHT.

The Tempts kicked ass then, as they do today.

  • Comin on the mic is Eazy Muthafuckin E

  • It started off with me trying to find the open credits theme for Tropic Thunder....and then it lead me to being blown away by the much more powerful message and awesomeness of this song.

  • this video gives me great hope that we can recreate some of the beautiful

things of the 60's. its sad how we are fighting the same demons all over

    again -great message

  • @bruceruch Actually, the song was 1970

  • this is going to be the theme song to the new Detriot 187

like Who are you is the theme for CSI LV

  • @Silverfox7771 yea I been hearing that good choice for that series

  • eazy e stole the bass of this song lol

  • @LazyEye187 that bass line is tight I do a little sampling myself

  • ..and it'll still rock, and move our minds, 40yrs from now..

  • @cosmani1 well demons never die they just relocate from time to time

  • @ nohobob so true so true!!! love the temptaions

  • your right I had the honour too play for the Funk Brothers I'am horn player

  • @shadow55756

The funk brothers the driving machine behind motown, talk about a silent leader. those guys all i can say is wow

1 you are one fortunate person. their musical minds were from another demension. it's strange how little they are mentioned when a motown conversation breaks out.

what was your best performance with them.

  • @shadow55756

it seems like you guys had a special agenda for the temptations. the music made you feel down to your core. i'm not talking about my girl, but i am talking about ru away child runnin wild, ball of confusion, cloud nine, psycodalic shake. they were dark songs they would actually paint a picture in your mind. papa was a rolling stone, you felt the pain of the kid and the shame of the mother. they were soulful because they made you feel to your core. thanks a platinum times

  • The more things change, the more they stay the same.

  • Killersong !!!!!!!

  • were doing this really cool version of this song in school with harmonies and stuff !!!! woohoo!!!!!

  • Love the temps , and u r right temps rule

  • We heard the words 40 years ago and we are no further ahead then we were back then. You can't beat the man.

  • @killybay2 the truth

  • @killybay2 sadly enough some of us have been working with the man or is the man

  • WE DON'T DO A GOOD JOB LISTENING TO THE LYRICS. THIS SONG IS MORE PREVELANT TODAY THAN IT WAS IN 69. PLEASE GIVE IT A LISTEN AND COMMENT

KBOB SAYS THIS IS A MUST IF YOU HAVE LISTENED TO ANYTHING. LISTEN TO THIS ,THREE TIMES BECAUSE OF THE MESSAGE. GUARANTEED TO SAY WOW

  • @nohobob this song was way ahead of it's time for sure

  • @nohobob You know one other things I love alot about The Temptations, is that their

like the NBA Basketballs. Because they all have their own styles of music. And they

are right. What's going today, we all know that races'm is alive and well. I don't just

listen to the music itself, but I've also listen to the messages, as well. I am so glad I'm

    from the old school.

  • @sandralawson18

It's really nice that someone else else listens to the message and lyrics not just the beat. thanks,

just because it's old doesn't mean it doesn't hold the truth

  • @nohobob I don't know what's true or not either, but look around us? All these killings,

alot of people gettin kicked out of their homes, and alot people getting fired from their

jobs. And you and I both know that race'm is still alive and well. It easy for us to say

what is not truth or not, if we are living their shoes. I don't know.

  • @sandralawson18

we are closer to the street and a collapsed economy than you know. NO, IT'S NOT OBAMA THIS DESTRUCTION HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR A LONG TIME.. wE MAY BE LIVING IN THEIR SHOES. really, why is it so hard to love and so easy to hate. i have never got that. i don't care about your color , i do care that you are my brother.

  • @sandralawson18

we are closer to the street and a collapsed economy than you know. • @nohobob well motown had many writers and i guess each one wrote out of their own heart

  • @nohobob It's frustrating to hear alot of people, still getting killed. People and their

children, are getting laid off, and still getting being kicked out of their homes. And, we

have no choice but to just deal with it, eventhough it's not your fault. I'll tell one of these

days, I hope the taple will turn on some of these ass holes, who doesn't give a damn

    about nobody but themselves.

  • @sandralawson18 I PUT THIS ON FACEBOOK. I ASKED PEOPLE TO listen to the words no reponses. i get very frustrated that people are blind. yes another 911 will happen, and i agree it's all about me. we are all brothers and sisters, but a divided family. this song is over 40 years old? and it is truer today than then. i hear you loud and clear.
