  • i wish formula one was like this today..this is real racing

  • Brilliant stuff, thanks for posting

  • Patrese was at his zenith in 1991. To be honest, Patrese had the measure of Mansell in this race, he was quicker, not by much, but enough to stay in the lead.

  • @lazerpod66 didnt mansell wave him though tho?

  • @flipsidedogchop Yeah, but he managed to overtake Senna and was pulling away, and in 1991, Patrese and Mansell were pretty evenly matched.

  • @lazerpod66 5 wins v 2 wins and mansell retired from certain wins in canada, belguim & portugal

  • Ayrton Senna in an inferior car with a manual gearbox ... incredible

  • this was great, thank you

  • Tis vid is simply fabulous, no music, all original comments from Walker and Hunt, simply a classic 1991 race at a fabulous track, thanks for posting this gem.

  • good times of f.1....airton vs nigel!!simply the best !!!

  • the problem with teamwork for Senna is his partner could never keep up with him lol but then again he didn't really need one

  • And let's not forget...Senna is simply the best.He was in an inferior car.

  • mansell car was superior

  • @dumbman2006 No it wasn't!

  • I know exactly what happens and when, but it's still exciting!

  • senna vs mansell or mansell & patresee

  • senna vs mansell or mansell & patresee

  • ALways LOOVE MANSELL and his Williams , mann goood memories,. thanx poster"

  • this is F1 which isdead today

  • 2 F1 drivers wasable to match the legend, come 1 to 1? cant do it can u?

    RIP A.Senna!

  • @lturkay Watch the Spanish GP 1991 then!

Mansell gave senna a driving lesson that day!

  • Mansell and Senna was a battle of nerves and just hand-in-hand combat with Prost was always attracted to what you see.

  • What a ridiculous comment. I am not even going to try and start an intelligent debate over F1 with you because you know precisley ZERO about the sport. Maybe you should stick to NASCAR or Indycar racing. More your level son.

  • @chrismarkbicknell

hahahaha u r the best no time to waste with this guy, nascar :))))) bravo!!

  • I'm lucky to have this race on VHS tape, I remember it very well. It had me on the edge of my seat for 2 hours

  • This was one heck of a dogfight, Mansell and his strategy of no tires was awesome. Great win by Ill Leone!

  • Nice edit

  • I forgot: from 6:25-6:31 in the vid we see that "Senna is the only man in F1 to resist a Mansell dummy", which is 100%correct.

Now, we should add that Senna is also the only one man in F1 to resist a DSQ Mansell charging on the inside at 180mph with nothing to loose, while He was figthing for the title against his teammate who came 2nd adding 6 more points in the scoring chart (Estoril 89)"... Senna was also that by 1989. But here in 1991 He did just the opposite and impose his own conditions...

  • On top of the fact that this is a clean race and how team mates work to pass another. It goes to show how great Senna was at holding his position that it required such team tactic to take him down...and the Williams' knew it.

  • 3 top drivers having a clean professional dogfight without any form of dirty tactics like Michael Schumacher would use, golden age of F1, thank you!

  • @lazerpod66 is that so Jeepy, the battle is fantastic, and for me is specially relevant the clever approach by Mansell to get the best chances of having a go on Senna without his brave but often "black or white" overtakings. His overtaking was clean and perfect and gave Ayrton no choice: the way an overtaking has to be done. Which is also great is that we see a 110% matured Senna (1991 was "the Senna season" for me). He finally let Patrese overtake him since his rival was Nigel, not him.

  • @lucianoestivill Thanks to point-out this video . As Arrows said below, both under enormously pressure and in this cases nowadays drivers tend to be not very fair .

On the contrary as you point out here we have a perfect and clean overtake showing how drivers should honor the world of races. I suppose there was more respect between champions in the past and eventually when a race was terminated there was the certainity that the winner was the winner and he deserved to be the winner.

  • @lucianoestivill i am convinced Senna in this circumstance was running with inferior material. Williams FW14 had much better aerodynamics which paid especially in race trim and in quick corners like Lesmo. Senna could, if he did decide so, resist for a couple laps more, occupating the inside line before Ascari chicane, but that also would have slown him down and probably in that case for the final recovery he would have been less laps complicating his life. after all 2nd was a maximum result.

  • @sargatanas88 Correct. The best result for Ayrton would have been 3rd behind Patrese, or 2nd behind Mansell or Patrese, but a win was almost a dream given the circumstances. He finally finished 2nd (the best without any doubt). It is nice to see this battle played in a tough way but still plenty of sportmanship, and is specially interesting to see the "tactical" approach by both, avoiding stupid crashes and their ulterior always predictable moaning... Both pushed hard but calmly: perfect!.

  • @lazerpod66 I think ths a good example of those later races where Senna and Mansell clearly had a lot of respect for each other. They understood that they would both fight to the very end and fight to the max. but would never deliberately take someone off... unless making a political statement of course. ;)

  • @f1educator Oh dear you really are not very educated mr fieducator. Respect? I suppose that was at the max from Mansell in Adelaide 92 when mr ' i dont take ppl off senna' took Mansell off cos he didnt want him to acheive 10 wins in 1 season. Why dont we ask Alain Prost if Senna had respect for other drivers and championed clean fights. We could ask Senna but unfortunately he was so shite he couldnt even steer around a corner :)

  • @kennysbitches Did you just refer to Senna as shite??? With that one statement you show yourself to know NOTHING about F1. Nobody had the car control, skill, overtaking ability, track awareness and downright genius of Ayrton Senna. Yes, his methods were questionable at times but for downright ability nobody will ever match Ayrton Senna. He was and always willo be simply the best. Oh and that last sentance was disgraceful......

  • @chrismarkbicknell

YOu should have a look at the "what caused Senna's crash video" when it goes into great detail about his accident being caused by the chassis of the car skimming of the track causing a momentary loss of traction. This caused the back end to step out and when Senna turned into the skid the front wheels gripped where the rear wheels weren't and speared the car off into the wall. It was a freak accident and there was nothing that any driver of any ability could've done.

  • @chrismarkbicknell I think you'll find that no-one had nige's overtaking ability, finest in the world ever. Plus his skill wasn't quite the best enough was it? My hero- alive urs- dead :) xx

  • @kennysbitches u fucking prick for saying something as stupid as that. fuck you cunt!!

  • @leemassey1 come come young man. No need for potty mouth like that was there, you've just made yourself look a very silly boy.

  • @kennysbitches really?? you slag your the cunt knocking aryton senna the best driver ever. u silly twat

  • @kennysbitches You see, You tube is about constructive argument, difference of opinion, I can quite clearly see that by offering nothing but slanderous insults and expletive language that you have no more than two brain cells to construct anything that warrants a title of an opinion.

  • @kennysbitches even tho ur a stupid slag that commented to yourself talking about me having two brain cells i will overlook it because im nice. i like having the differnce of opinion with some1 thats how you learn but you saying well the bloke i like is alive and yours is dead so mines better is wrong. you stupid cunt

  • @kennysbitches nigel who? Nobody outside some decadent little island knows who this pity silly bastard was/is. Btw, is he still alive?

  • @fernandovogel He was F1 champ and Indy car champ back to back , You watch these clips and then post a comment like that .... says a lot about you my friend....

  • @f1educator whats a Mansell dummy?

  • @f1educator This "respect" went out of the window in '92 in Adelaide!!

  • @lazerpod66 you're incredibly uninformed.

    .

sena has taken out prost, mansel, and probably some others i don't know about. he was a jackass while being passed, and tried to take people out who tried to pass him.

sorry, bud, but that's the truth.

  • @ZamolxisReborn I know F1, specially that period much more than you think. Everybody knows about Senna's antics on the track, you are not rotating the earth with your info. In that matter, the absolute Jackassin that field is a cheater called Michael Schumacher.

  • @lazerpod66 you can hate schumi all you want, but did he cheat for all 7 of his championships? sena has a cult following because he died, but he wasn't an angel. far from it.

  • @ZamolxisReborn In a way, he cheated troughout all his career, inteam orders, driving the best bulletproof car for 5 straight years, favoritism from the FIA, illegal cars (Benetton B-194) just to name a few...Senna does have a cult following, but he was already huge before his death, just like Gilles Villeneuve. I doubt that Schumacher's death would generate the same effect....

  • @lazerpod66 you understand that he built that ferrari 5 championships from nothing? ferrari was crap in the early 90s. nobody gave him a great car--he made the thing.

team orders are the reason teams exist.

and his benettons were crap cars that never won anything before him or after him. the "bulletproof" cars came after thousands of hours of testing, and if you think he just got a perfect car by doing nothing, read up on it.

    .

and none of it has anything to do w/ sena, who was behind in '94.

  • @ZamolxisReborn 5 championships...he helped, but the main results dripped from the Brawn/Byrne combo, the same cheating elements behind the Benetton squad in 94, like it or not. Senna was lacking in 94 simply because Schumacher's car was illegally using Launch control. Team orders are for people who can generate wins by bending the cold hard facts of racing, which Ferrari were experts at.

  • @ZamolxisReborn Anyways, you seem to worship the ground Schumacher walks on, a blinded fangirl, it's your right, a pathetic one if you ask me....lol.

  • @lazerpod66 you understand that this is a senna video, and YOU started bitching about schumacher, right?

    .

get your head out of your ass, and shut the fuck up. ho ho, L O L.

    bitch.

  • @ZamolxisReborn Yeah, right, whatever slave...

  • @lazerpod66 u forgot to say dirty moves like Hamilton does as well

  • @PolariceSwiss Yeah, but I put Hamilton in the modern boring colorless generation of today's f1 racing.

  • @lazerpod66 yeah because these two have NEVER used controversial tactics, you retard

  • @MegaMrDamo The thing is that you shouldn't use words you don't understand faggot. F1 racing is not in your pricerange, try cocksucking instead asshole.

  • @lazerpod66 Hmm. I'm afraid that A Senna is at least as responsible for legitimising "dirty tactics" as M Schumacher.

  • @stevibhoy1 I would say that Michael Schumacher took this concept and raised it sky high, to a dangerous level, way above anything Senna would do, plus he was a liar(Schumacher).

  • 10/10

  • I always considered that Mansell, if He have had this kind of clever and "tactical" approach on his whole career, He would have had a much better opportunity to figth and win much more against Senna, Prost, and specially Piquet. Skilled, fast and brave as He was, I guess it wold have been a lot easier for Nigel to beat them. For sure a very big whiner, OK, but a top class driver in my opinion. And all top drivers used to be whiners, honestly, as Prost, Senna, Schumacher, Piquet, Alonso were/are.

  • @lucianoestivill - HI Luciano ! clean sample of what F1 was and what should beomop.Let's stop and just think for a while : most of these great drivers' moves would be flagged as unappropriate accordingly to F1 present standards....So it goes :(

  • great vid, great battle, great coments. Congrats

  • thank you mattikake! I've been missing your videos...

  • Do you have the full races of these highlights you put up?

    Great editing btw

  • Fantastic battle. Both drivers were under enormously pressure.

    Thanks!

  • thank you!
