And the two replays don't disprove the 3rd umpire's decision at all. Third umpires are always meticulous, and you will very rarely see them making mistakes. They award the batsman the benefit of the doubt at the smallest doubt.

Two disgraceful 'home town decisions'. No wonder Bansal didn't umpire another Test after this one - and the TV umpire, Bandekar, only ever umpired a single ODI.
The decision to give Warne out was made way too hastily, I think it was probably not out, but it wasn't the worst decision i've ever seen.
The Gilchrist one though was horrendously bad. Pitched outside leg, spinning away, and hit the bat as well. But Bansal was quite possibly the worst home umpire I've ever seen. Unlike Venkat who was a superbly fair umpire it was amazing he didn't stay on inthe series and was instead replaced by Bansal.
Even though I'm Indian, I think this hat trick was dodgy at best. Gilchrist hit the balland the Warne catch was very inconclusive at best and the benefit should have been given to the batter. The Pathan hat trick was much better.

Ponting's LBW is a bit on the nose, and the Gilchrist decision is appalling: pitching outside leg, and a huge piece of wood on it. Who was the umpire? By the Way I'm a Kiwi, so consider myself reasonably impartial. If I was the bowler I would be ashamed to have that as my international hat-trick. @googley98 Yeah, Gilly's did look like it pitched outside leg stump. But Warne's dismissal was clean. You surely heard Tony Greig saying that the catch was without doubt, clean. And the two replays don't disprove the 3rd umpire's decision at all. Third umpires are always meticulous, and you will very rarely see them making mistakes. They award the batsman the benefit of the doubt at the smallest doubt.

The 2nd decision was absolutely woeful- pitched miles outside leg stump, plus he hit the ball!
The 3rd decision was difficult to tell either way, but you couldn't possibly say that it was definitely out so benefit of the doubt should have gone to the batsman.
Although it's funny- I don't recall Harsha Bhogle, Ravi Shastri, and Sunil Gavaskar whingeing and crying about THESE bad decisions....

The decision to give Warne out was made way too hastily, I think it was probably not out, but it wasn't the worst decision i've ever seen.
The Gilchrist one though was horrendously bad. Pitched outside leg, spinning away, and hit the bat as well. But Bansal was quite possibly the worst home umpire I've ever seen. Unlike Venkat who was a superbly fair umpire it was amazing he didn't stay on inthe series and was instead replaced by Bansal.

Even though I'm Indian, I think this hat trick was dodgy at best. Gilchrist hit the balland the Warne catch was very inconclusive at best and the benefit should have been given to the batter. The Pathan hat trick was much better.
