  • thats the reason everyone shub buy refill kits or make the mixture yourself with food colouring and polyvinyl pyrrolidone, works great :)

  • The garbage is the best place for any inkjet or even laser printer.

Put your files on disc and send them to the copy shop, I do mine at Jessops, costs me around 30 pence each. I select only my best shots. Works out much cheaper than this shit and I don't have to live with keeping the ugly crap in my house either.

  • oh and when i first opened the cartridge..i thought it was a rip off aswell..becouse the sponges were only stained halfway like in your vid!

  • thats the reason that i buy mine from ink xpress and there filled right to the top :)

  • yeah man..it works awesome..i even made black by mixing the food dye colors ..and i use it in the black cartridge..works perfect!..i find lexmark printers are the easiest to use food coloring in..my printer is a lexmark Z515..i save a loooot of money by using food dye..iv been using food dye in it for months and no probs!

  • i refill my lexmark ink cartridge with food coloring and it works great for me!

  • @Tom152104h

lol really? I doubt that food coloring would work b/c it's not meant for printing. you would need to maybe mix it with isopropyl alcohol in the right ratio and maybe it will work.

  • All you do is overrride and fill till leak from top

  • @irulethe70s

How do you override it? My printer has a stop/reset button but I doubt it has to do with the cartridge. I think one time it said I was out of ink so I unplugged it and plugged it back in and it worked.

  • @coondogtheman1234 Look up a tutorial

It may be not be possible on yours

  • I hope HP doesn't do that. They probably do. This is why they shouldn't charge such high prices for ink. It's not like they made it from unicorn blood.

  • @weinerschnitzelboy

they all do that, it's all about money. there is one company that is honest, I think it's kodak but i'm not sure. there is some co. out there that has print carts and they are under 20 bucks and I think that's either each or 1 color 1 black but i'm not sure. anyone wanna check this.

  • not true ! the same ! they say 400+ pages but the true is under 170 pages and they have 1 neutral color that it used whit b&w and color and runs out as fast as the rest ! :( sad try to get a old printer they dont have dis ink levels bs ! u can refill my old canon bjc 1000 i refill for 10 years whit cheap ink ! best printer ever ! it die on me :(

  • @bodea1111adrian

I had a Canon BJC-4300 series printer and it worked but one of the pins that hold the paper down broke out and then it kept jamming so I got rid of it. I loved that printer as it got me thru high school. I now have a canon MP470 3 in 1 printer scanner copier is there a way to reset the ink on it?

  • @weinerschnitzelboy They do

I have a Photodick premium and it has ripoff inks!

    60s have partial sponges!

    60XL dosent

    evidence enough?

  • Buy laser printers.

  • So now we know they fill them up only half way..Smart marketing idea..My local computer shop fill them up to the maximum for 12 €uro and they last twice as long.

  • @Brainiac83

yeah I'd fill them up to sopping wet so that if u press on the foam stuff or whatever. ink oozes out. and BTW Braniac I love that show. I dont see it here but I've seen videos of it on here. Cool show.

  • i have tha same printer

  • While the cartridge are rip open correctly as shown in the video, the next step would be to fill it in with the alternative color, seal them with loctite (super glue) as to original seal, slot the alternative ink filled cartidge and use them, the way to reset (rip) is only by pressing the reset button for 5 seconds once the printer indicate on the computer screen that you have run out of ink, the button is just beside On/Off switch. You can continue print while the Color or Black LED blinking.

  • @noormba

actually I would get a refill kit or 3 bottles of ink and 2 syringes and drill a small hole in each part of the cart and fill it up. now getting the printer to accept the refilled cart. is an other story. on mine I don't know how I would do that. maybe unplug it while it's checking the cart?

  • @coondogtheman1234

Larger hole will drain out ink even when its not been in use. I know you understand.

To accept your cart as original is impossible. Usual cases, is the cart will indicate the balance amount of ink left, just keep on printing until a time when the printer ink indicates in your screen that it has totally run out of ink but actual fact you have refilled, during this time just Press the Reset Button for 5 sec second, the ink LED will blink non stop, don't bother blinking. Print

  • there are filled l the way on XL

HP is guilty of this but you cannot use the front resivoir on the standard but can on XL

  • how is this hacking ???

  • You can refill it. They are PG 40 and CL41. PG50 and CL51 has those foams almost fully filled with ink. These cartdridges are not compatible with new printers. They are a large options for older printers and 40, 41 are standard ones for those. Now 40 and 41 are large option for new printers. New printers uses PG37 and CL38 as standard. They have smaller foam like half of this. This sponge is not fully filled and it is holded in bottom by plastic parts of the lid.

  • This isnt a hack. Its just taking them apart.just saying.

  • @wph1138

I know, I just felt like exposing the truth of these things like everyone else on here did.

  • 75x ink is just the same cartridge with the plastic walls removed and NORMAL size sponges put in.

  • fucking video!

  • my canon has clear cartridges, it's not just the foam, there's actually liquid too, it's much cheaper to just refill cartridges rather buying new ones. and don't buy lexmark, i used to work at compusa... lex may be the cheapest printers out there but, u get wat u pay for, they are the worst when it comes to ink consumption and their inks are the most expensive...

canon has some of the best quality prints i've seen so i wouldn't put them down

kodak seems promising tho, i seen the commercials

  • I'm glad that you made a point to mention each color that comes inside every printer for all of the blind people who must of been watching this.

  • don't buy geniue buy Bulk system ! easy from 100 gr of bulk syst ink you got about 70 cartriges

  • hacking or just opening...

  • @imacer99 That's EXACTLY what they are doing haha. but you are actually paying for the actual cartridge and not the ink. theres a decent amount of technology in one of these you ever take one apart? its messy as hell though, just warnin ya.

  • buy an epson and ciss kit

  • Cyan is blue...

  • @107Bighead I know and the purple-violet one is magenta

  • They are only half full... Mine aren't. These are probably those that came with the printer. The ones you buy separately last a fair bit longer. You are right in saying it's a ripoff though. They could just as well have brimmed them. Anyway, these cartridges cost a lot because they have their own nozzles. Buy a more expensive model and the nozzles are o the printer itself, so the cartridges will be cheaper. If you don't plan on using it often, get a cheap one, as you can replace clogged nozzles.

  • @mynith I will be getting rid of this printer and buying that new lexmark one or that kodak one the one where the ink carts are dirt cheap. yeah 4.99 for a 500 page B&W cart that is damn cheap. I dont care how much the printer it I'll sell this one and use the money towards the new one. if I can't sell this one i'll just use it as a scanner or card reader or ill gut it for the parts but I'd hate to gut a perfectly good printer.

  • Oh My My My.Good Lord. All I Did Was Crease Up Laughing, Sounds He`s Having A Bad Day.What With Foam Things, Theres An Empty Thing An Theres A Black One..Hes Really Hacked Off.

  • @ UKneil1

the reason I sound like i'm having a bad day with these is b/c they are a friggin ripoff. whoever makes this is ripping ppl off and overcharging for them. the economy aint helping either by sucking the way it is.

  • @UKneil1 Ya! 50 bucks for one of these and it barely lasts you think i'm not "hacked" (pissed) off? its BS if you ask me. I had a Canon BJC-4300 printer in the 90s and I printed stuff like crazy and the carts lasted for months.

  • It's not quite a hack until you show us a fix...but yes we are getting ripped off by the retail stores where we buy cartridge...that is why I now use the Continuous Ink System on my Epson Artisan 800(CIS costed $45)and Canon Pro9000(CIS cost me $150)refill ink is cheap

  • Hi there if you use a continuous ink system and say leave the printer unused for a while are there problems as I was thinking of using on myself also where do you get the ink to refill them and how do the chips work on them compared to a normal cartridge that works on how many drops of ink have gone through

  • Ok, here's a tip. I worked with printers... You can refill almost every printer cartridge for about 8 times. But when it empties you mustnt wait or the color will dry in the sponge. After that I tried installing direct injecting system, I only had to have always full bottles and I never bought cartridge again :)

  • A very informative video Coondog and it has as a complete novice with printers given me a better understanding of the workings of ink cartridges thank you.

  • Thanka, glad you liked the video, and thanks for the comment.

  • Hi Coondog thanks for your comments . I wondered if you know why after refilling my HP ink cartridges my printer keeps flashing error. As an informative person I wondered if you have any sites or info I could access on the internet. Cheers.

  • did you try resetting it like maybe unplugging it and plugging it back in? if that doesnt work then maybe thats a security feature built in so that you have to buy carts. I dunno, there has to be a way to bypass the sensor on ink carts.

  • Hi again Coondog, I have followed your advice and went from dispair to joy as my printer accepted my refilled cartridges. You haved saved me a few bob what with the cost of new cartridges and I am most grateful for your sound advice, all the best and many thanks for taking the time and trouble to answer my comment.

  • lol that really worked? I wasnt expecting it to lol but im glad it worked for you and that you are happy and happy printing. maybe ill try that on mine next time the cart is empty and ill fill it with something to trip the sensing.

  • lol buy some cheap pens and take them apart then use the ink from the pen to put it into the the foam things lol

  • I dont think that will work the ink is different in both pens and ink carts. ink in pens is thicker and oil based wheres printer cart ink is more liquid and has alcohol.

  • Brother ones, if yo open em its all liquid and a bigger sponge but fully filled up with ink

  • Oh ive never used those I use the BIC ones. I have seen those liquid ones they might work I dunno try it and post a vid.

  • Continus ink systems are the best but you have to use them every week or else the ink runs back and you have to prime the system again which is a pain if the seals on your printer are not the best to begin with.

  • if i had a system like that is make excuses tp print stuff like ill copy all my game covers and hang em on my wall.

  • Its not the ink your paying for its the sprayhead diode and circuit your paying for. Allso you do realize you can refill most cartriges right? So reality is you only ever need to buy one cart and just buy inks by the gallon online. at least until sprayhead wears out.

  • shit ill drill a tiny hole in the cart and then get 3 syringes one for each color and refill them. and you are right your are paying for the technology thats in the head not the ink b/c ive taken these things completely apart and theres an amazing amount of technology inside them and i rinsed out all the ink in the one i took apart.

  • Are those the cartridges that came with the printer or a new set?

  • new set. what a rip off huh? and they are like 50 bucks. i cant believe i bought this piece of shit printer as it wont ebven print a copy in B&W only it keeps asking for a new cart and it wont work at all till I do that. i havent tested printing from the PC.

  • I wouldn't have been surprised if it had been the set that came with the printer, cos they only half-fill those ones anyway, but it does seem a little surprising for new ones. I guess the main issue is whether or not you get the number of pages they estimate on the packaging.

I dunno about your printer, but my HP has an option that specifically says "Black Ink Cartridge Only." If I leave it on "High Quality" it uses the colour cartridge to make the B&W look better. Maybe that's what yours does.

  • I dont think mine has that type of setting. Its a canon MP470 3 in 1 scanner copier printer and i dont think it has a setting to select B&W or color but I think you can print from the PC in B&W just not copy w/o a color cart even if you select B&W copy which is stupid. would you think that this printer has firmware?

  • Its the driver's i believe. Firmware is pretty basic for the most part when it comes to printing

  • well this printer is also a copier and im supposed to be able to select B&W and color and it wont even let me copy in B&W b/c its like its mandatory that i replace that cart.

  • hmm, hmm dont know what to tell you there, you could try to access the Firmware chip and see. Though if its protected not much can be done. outside of running a sensor bypass, But i really could not say without having that model of printer or circuit diagram to refrence to.

  • Wow. Rip off indeed!

  • yeah tell me about it and if thats not bad enough my printer will not copy even in B&W unless it has a color cart in it with ink and i have plenty of black carts but it wont do anything till i get a new color cart which is stupid. I think the printer is a rip off too lol.

  • It's probably the printer company's way of getting people to make more money. Maybe.

  • Probably, DAMN YOU CANON!!

I wonder if theres a way to trick the printer into thinking that theres ink in the color cart maybe if i put rubbing alcohol in it. i dunno.

  • wew

  • Yes, im thinking of getting a Epson for ink refiling and the CIS ink system for it. Before then, here is how to reset the ink for this system.

  • as far as cartiges go: it seems that the epson cartiges are the simplest looking, and easier to refill.

The cartiges that have individual colors. If i could go back in time... and substitute this HP CXI for an epson, I wuld do it. All that matters is that the printer cartiges are easy to replace or refill.

  • For Epson cartridges you will also need a chiprester if you want to refill them

  • So... how do i refill one of these cartridges, it keeps saying that its empty then refuse to print, anyway to reset them, its a stupid printer... I cant scan without a ink cartridge in it... i might go buy a new one if i could sell my old one or something, i want to print on cds anyway... do you know any good hacks firmware replacements or anything for this printer?

    Thanks

  • im not sure, I think mine does this too, my suggestion is to buy a new one but chances are they all do this. I really dont know.

  • omg i got the same printer!!

  • yeah its pretty cool but the cartridges are a friggin ripoff i wish they would last longer but other than that its awesome i can scan i can print from my digital camera well you know you have this same unit.

  • thanks now i will fill it more when i get new one

  • Thank you. It saves me lots of trouble figuring how to open it up.

  • Cool, glad to see whats in there.

  • a good job on hacking the ink cartridge

  • yeah I did this video to show the world how the economy is ripping ppl off and this video is proof. I remember when I had the Canon BJC 4300 printer and id print lots of pictures and the ink lasted longer.

  • ok who gave this video only 1 star? cmon ppl you can do better than that

  • your psp fix is cool

  • thanks glad you liked it did you comment on that video, please leave a comment, rate, and sub if you like my vids

  • Well done in showing what mugs we are for paying these over price products.

  • yeah its a shame, these things should be totally saturated with ink but instead they fill it halfway and charge an arm and a leg for it, if this gets worse i might get a new printer and sell this one but I might still ise the scanner part or i might hack it like kipkay did in the video he made of hacking an old scanner for a desk light

  • $50 for that cheap shit? Thatz retarded! Itz just a way for them to make money. You're better off just refilling them than to buy another one.

  • werll id do that but these refill kits are hard to find and not all of them work but I havent tried them yet but if be very happy drilling a small hole in the top of the cart and stickin a syringe of ink in there, b/c you are paying for the cartridge as well not just the ink, those carts are full of technology you ever take one completely apart? amazing whats inside

  • The HP ones are even worse. It cost more to buy the ink then the printer is worth anymore. I now have a Canon i550, and it is much cheaper to get carts for.

Are those the stock cartridges? Because usually the ones that come with the printer are only "trial" cartridges.

  • no ive bought these in BJ's club but they do seem like trial carts, ive seen this printer on TV its i think a kodak one and the ink is like 10 bux a cart is that printer any good? if it is it might be my next one pending that it supports wifi printing
