  • Looooooove the track that features Kimbra.

Also, when she drops her first album, Vows, you better review it cause it's gonna be great!

  • Very glad i found this, found you're review of Toro Y Moi's stuff and wondered if you had reviewed this. This is one of my favourite Albums off all time and although it does have it's low points (Illuminated), tracks like 'Holidays', 'Imagination', 'Sometimes', 'Moon Theory' 'Echoplex', 'Summersun' & 'I look to you' have cemented this bands place in my heart, each of the songs i mentioned does enough to distinguish itself from the next while remaining very 'MHish.' I LOVE Illumination.

  • where i can download this album??

  • "Holidays" is what chillwave should sound like.

  • i hate producers that make disco flavoured shit diso is over fuck miami horror techno is king

  • This album has one of my FAVORITE songs of all time on it:

    Imagination.

  • Indie Dance/ Nu Disco!

  • love the SICK as bass line

  • I found out about this through wait for it PES 2011 lol gotta say they have more than slight likeness to a classic nu wave techno-electro band New Order which is no bad thing....

  • I found out about this trough wait for it PES 2011 lol gotta say they have more than slight likeness to a classic nu wave techno-electro band New Order which is no bad thing....

  • i like the vids but you should play some of the music .

  • The album is good but I only really like the first 6 or 7 tracks

  • What other albums come even close to this, this is straight outta 1976-1982 and not just because of the disco element, also because of the synthpop/rock, new wave element to it. What I get from listening to Cut Copy, Klaxons, Empire Of The Sun, Shy Child, Midnight Juggernauts, Grafton Primary, Cicada, Fenech Soler, Bag Raiders, and so on. This band does what those bands do, but makes an album with nearly no filler. BTW I do think this is the best album of 2010, next year will be Cicada's LP

  • I love their new album. and I love this review man, good stuff.

  • loved this album and bravado, their earlier ep.

    WOOT FOR AUSTRALIAN MUSIC!!!!!!!!!

  • where did you get your shirt? totally diggin' it.

  • You can dance to parts of Future Islands' "In Evening Air," but in total, the best dance albums of the year have been Caribou's "Swim," LCD Soundsystem's "This Is Happening," "Flying Lotus's "Cosmogramma" and Matthew Dear's "Black City" (in that order).

  • I think this might have just become my favorite album of the year so far. This thing jams for me so hard.

  • Could you please play a song from each of these albums that you are reviewing in the background??? Is that allowed on Youtube?

  • i can see daft punks a big influence, especially on "i look to you"

  • Haven't watched any of your reviews in a while then watched 5 in a row, still got it broo.

  • I saw them live and they sound better! there's lots of guitar distortion and really all about the energy, they are really pretty good, I totally agree on the review of the album, but really, live they are totally awesome!

  • Pretty good. I'd probably crank up some IAMX instead, when Im in the mood for this kind of music

  • @ronfisher22 Huh? IAMX and Miami Horror are both great, but they sound nothing like each other.

  • Definite disco sound there, which is not too bad, but I also hear a kinda 80's commercial pop sound, which kills it for me. That ultraviolet track, for example, would have almost fit on the soundtrack to a sub-John Hughes teen comedy in 1987.

In terms of dance-y electronic music so far this year, I'm digging "Touched" by Blondes, and very little else.

  • was that Abba reference slighted at Echoplex collaboration with MAI?

that's my fave track on the album for sure. check it!

  • Unrelated, though I'd like to know... Do you listen to Sigur Ros? (sorry, I'm a keyboard nub, don't know how to do accents and whatnot...).

  • So I must have missed something...why the lawn scene at the beginning of your segments? Also, are you not allowed to play parts of the songs in the review anymore? I have been watching for months now w/o really questioning some of the format changes. I love the original TND opening with the turntable, Random Rules, descent to the basement. Keep up the good work.

  • will you review Chiodos new album Illuminaudio when it comes out??

  • Does you review much Metals?

  • Artwork is very similar to How to Destroy Angel's EP.

  • Definitely an improvement from the EP.

  • goin to church?

  • Damn all this new 80s inspired stuff has such good artwork!

  • you are like my idol. i want to be a music journalist but youre so good that im discouraged. :(

  • Benjamin Plant

    Robert Plant

    Coincidence? I think NOT!!!11!one!!

  • My favourite dance album from this year would have to be from the truly hated by you Sleigh Bells' debut.

  • @TrkyLym same here rocks hard

  • pretty good. i'll be sure to illegally download it.

  • @thejobloshow Funniest comment ever!

  • I HATE those guys...

  • I was excited to see this review pop up in my subscription box! appreciate you reviewing this man :)

  • yeeeee crystal castles

  • Thanks Anthony for reviewing this album, I just discovered Miami Horror a few days ago and was hoping that you would do a review. I love how they mixed electro and disco...pretty good mix of beats. You're the best! Hope your having a good Labor day weekend :)

  • what i'd really like to know is why everyone's releasing summer jams AT THE END OF SUMMER.

  • @officernarc Miami Horror are an Australian group so we are coming into summer :)

  • I'm also a shithead though.

  • bloghouse + disco? sounds like my kinda jams.

  • "That was douchy". So kawaii. :3

  • Excellent review, Anthony. FOREVER

  • Hmmm these guys are actually quite good. They remind me a lot of Ou Est Le Swimming Pool.

  • @RaymondDundas

    ouch.. too soon

    :P

  • Thanks Anthony. I really like this album.

  • Cool review, although I've never heard of this band. The only "Illumination" I've heard of is the song by Samael.

  • @gamechampionx How about "Illuminate Eliminate " by Mayhem? ;-)

  • @TrevortIn I've actually not heard of that one yet. I really need to get me some Mayhem one of these months - still working on expanding my black metal collection.

  • @gamechampionx Give their last album a chance, it's called "Ordo Ad Chao", just be warned: you'll either be in awe or deeply disappointed. I myself, think it's the blackest black metal album I've ever heard. Search for their song "Anti". ;)

  • @TrevortIn I should definitely check that out. I've only ever bought one black metal album I didn't like so I'd most likely enjoy it, especially since it's from a classic band like Mayhem.

  • @gamechampionx Enjoy, mate. ;-)

  • turned on the song thinking i was gona hear house music so i was in a bad mind set

but i actually like it ALOT thanks for the music =)

  • im shocked no one has said this yet so ill say it

    ILLUMINATION?!!? ILLUMINATI!?!? WAH!? WAH!? WAH!?

  • I looked up with shear and instinctual awe to find miami horror, gracious and fluid, raining down synthed notes from the heaven, i was cleansed, electronically.

  • I can imagine you crazy dancin to this in a club with the guys at 0.34 on a sweaty, douchy night.

  • @SushiGoat not saying you're a douche.

  • The beginning reminded me of the haters gonna hate walk.

  • I lol'd hard at :35

  • I'd agree with 7. Not 'omg this is amazing' but pretty good to dance to.

Btw, I like that shirt on you, Anthony.

  • I'm so happy my dbox suggestion got reviewed =)

definitely agree with the light 7 as well.

  • Is Four Tet considered dance music? By the way, you flipped anyone watching this video off good sir :(

  • Right now I'm listening to the track "illumination" and it's great. Just what I needed :) I don't usually search for this type of music but I guess I should be.

  • well anyways my favorite dance record is Kesha's Animal

    jk

    it's This Is Happening

  • as a dance record, is it better than This Is Happening?

  • I don't much like the "big" sound of these guys, like Justice and Daft Punk, I can see it getting boring after just a bit, without much inventiveness in the beats or atmospheres. Don't mind hearing it a couple times, but certainly wouldn't buy it. Scuba's Triangulation & Actress' Splazsh are where it's at for me this year.

  • Well Dance-Punk is Dance music so, uh, This Is Happening... :D

  • I've only heard a couple of the singles, but I wasn't impressed. I'm slightly bias here though. Sadly, after a stint of fascination with Sister Scissors a couple years ago, I'm pretty much over disco infused electronic. It isn't exciting to me anymore. Dance music is ever evolving, which is good. 10 years later though, I think we could use another "Since I Left You". Something to really standout and make other musicians of the genre say to themselves, "How the fuck do I top that?"

  • @Ravemecaptain Scissor Sisters* moron. -.-

  • is the latest four tet a dance album???

  • Hmm, a little too over the top for my taste.

    Too .. what's the word .. peppy ?

  • Those guys!

  • Love it, tastes like fresh lemonade.

  • I've been listening to it a lot recently... oh, and their on their U.S. tour at the moment. I'll agree with this review. I enoy the sound though.

  • "Should this have been a metal review?"

    Yes. Good review, however.

  • first?! lol but anyway i really appreciate these reviews mostly because they introduce me to a lot of new music. im probably not first after typing this

  • @gzila57 thats it :)
