  • Trudbol. So I run into you through Dan Wright. Thank you for that song. I have played it in various venues for years, loved it deeply, and never heard the words once. Beautiful. Thank you. BTW, are you Irish, English, or my ancestral dna Welsh? Or did I miss the country completely?

  • @PaulWesleyBowen Thank you for all your nice comments on my videos. ;-)

    I'm French. ;-)

  • When the world is dark, this brightens it back up. Thank You :) xx

  • @mangadarkogirl My pleasure! Thanks! ;-)

  • truly beautiful guys :)

  • @bordonthestreet Thanks man! ;-)

  • You should have been born in the 1890's. Perhaps if you stand on the steps of an old church in Paris at midnight and wait for a yellow car with Hemmingway in the back seat you could be be magically transported back in time to the Belle Epoque with Marion Cotillard! How wonderful would that actually be? What a beautiful dream.

  • @musique2a Merci beaucoup, Gwenatav et moi sommes touchés. ;-)

  • @about30seconds My pleasure! ;-)

  • @acapeles1 Thank Les! ;-)

  • i actually want to go an try this in my singing lessons now.....!

  • Julien, this is one of your very best - and that's saying something! Wonderful work, as always!

  • @lpmorrow Thank you very much! Gwenatav and I wanted to do this song for a while, we're delighted you enjoyed it. ;-)

  • Beautiful!! Applause!!!

  • @AyalaArt Thank you! ;-)

  • Your hair makes me smile;-)

  • You should do the song from Jungle Book, That's What Friends Are For. I feel like you could rock it :)

  • @meganite4 I already did. ;-)

  • A lovely collaboration! :)

  • @CarlyCarlyW Merci Mr Paul. ;-)

  • Again, great job as always! And nice piano work, too! My 11 year old twin daughters are playing piano, and I love listening to them. Some day we can do what the two of you did. Keep up the good work!

  • 1 worth AWESOME :D

  • I love your music mate. I love the fact that every time you make a video, I am not seeing just one person, but 4 personalities. I am watching as if you were quadruplets, each one with his own tone, personality and life. And that, is something that is very rare in multi track.wtg ...

  • @yogertlvr Thank you! I indeed sing the different parts at different times of the day and try to maintain unity in the group, while changing my tone and attitude from one take to another. It's great to see people can feel it in the result. ;-)

  • @trudbol Your very welcome. I have been working on multi-track as well, doing a version of amazing grace to the tune of At the cross. Its a very different tune, but a nice challenge. I just hope that I can make it as good as you can. Good luck on next project.

  • @yogertlvr Thanks! My "next" project is out. ;-)

  • another amazing number! Keep up your fantastic work!

  • Great video, guys! Lovely harmonies and very soothing.

Technical question for Julien: since barbershop singing typically uses justified tuning and most instruments, including piano, use progressive tuning, the conventional wisdom says you can't accompany barbershop. What if anything did you do to handle that issue here (since after all it sounds great)?

  • @loinsrch There are a few spots in our recording which indeed sound dissonant because of the different intonations. Barbershop requires a particular tuning if you want to get the "ringing", but I don't have that kind of sound in my recordings, mostly because of imperfect pitch and also because of vibrato, which prevents overtones from lining up. I try to focus more on a rich and warm tone, rather than perfect tuning with a suppressed vibrato (detrimental to voice quality for me). ;-)

  • @trudbol I think it works out anyways and gives a 50s or 60s barbershop old time radio quartet

  • Please could you make a CD and/or share your sheet music? I'd love to do this in my choir :) DFTBA- although, you always are :)

  • Hi! I'm a member in a choir and I'm a Tenor. Our choir is composed of a Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass and I noticed that the two voices you are singing are unfamiliar to me. I was wondering if the Soprano is the same with Lead and Baritone is the same with Alto?

By the way, great video! Keep up the great work! (^___^)

  • @joodz10 Thanks! Well, almost: the lead is the soprano line sung one octave below and the tenor part here is in fact an alto part sung in it's original key. The baritone is actually the tenor in SATB. Confusing isn't it? ;-)

  • @trudbol I see... I agree that it's confusing and I had to read your explanation twice haha! Anyway, thank you very much! :D

  • @joodz10 Put simply, here are the voices from highest to lowest:

    1) SATB = soprano > alto > tenor > bass

    2) barbershop = tenor > lead > baritone > bass

In barbershop, the "lead" sings the melody, so it's the equivalent of the "soprano". The barbershop "bass" is the still the "bass". The "baritone" matches the SATB "tenor" and the "alto" voice is sung by the barbershop "tenor", except its sung one octave above the melody.

A barbershop arrangement is like SATB with soprano sung one octave down.

  • @trudbol thanks, really informative. Never knew barbershop was that convoluted

  • @trudbol I see! Thank you very much! (^___^)

  • your control and range is amazing.

  • @suecurtis4567 Thanks! ;-)

  • Thank You. You always bring a smile to my face. And I just DIG IT when you re-position your hair for the various parts. Hope to see you performing on the stage as well.

  • @cawiseguy Haha, thanks! I have a few times, but it's a whole different thing. I like singing close harmonies, but nobody sings barbershop in France, so it's easier to do on my own. Plus singing on the Internet meansuou can reach more people. ;-)

  • Lovely, yummy voice, it's always so much fun to see your videos!

  • @AyalaArt Thank you. ;-)

  • wow! great to see a skilled pianist with a very skilled singer! you're a guarantee... keep up and i hope you can continue singing for us indefinitely

  • Alala, cette voix tellement chaude... On ne s'en lasse pas :)

  • @veryblueviolin Merci ! ;-)

  • Just shared this on Facebook; I really enjoyed this one!

Side note -- would you mind explaining where the name "Trudbol" comes from?

  • @mdyankee55 Thank you! Trudbol comes from "c'est trop de la balle", which in colloquial French means "it's awesome". Like most people, I created my YouTube account without really paying much attention to the nickname. I wasn't palling on doing barbershop multitrack videos at the time. ;-)

  • Simply Perfect

  • @arundul12 Thank you very much: ;-)

  • Beauutiful ^^ And Marie is great on the piano, it's nice to see her around youtube again! Not that I'm tired of you, of course, but it's good to see both of you in something as nice as this :-) Any more collabs together? ^ ^

  • @Bitrixa Thanks Bea! Yes, we have some more collabs on the way! ;-)

  • awesome video

  • @mtwolf55 Thank you! ;-)

  • what edit thinghy do you use?

  • @14Ninaa Please read the F.A.Q. list on my channel page, you'll find answers to your questions there.

  • Another awesome video from one of my favorite subscriptions!

  • @andyandeloda Thank you very much! I just release a new video by the way ;-)

  • @jimbobaroobud Thank you, it's my pleasure. Do share my videos when you can and let your friends know about my music, that would be great. ;-)

  • The video started playing and there was no sound. I panicked.

The mute button was on. Crisis averted.

  • @thejerrymobile Haha! ;-)

  • 254 liked

  • Nicely done, great to see you in Kartiv2's Sting piece, never thought I'd sing with you.

  • @1JJONES ;-)

  • Smiles from California! :) Beautiful as always.

  • @adariawilson3 Thank you!

PS: Lived in San Francisco for a few years, what a great city. Sure miss California.

  • When day is done - and I watch your videos... it was a good day.

    Smiles from Germany :-)

  • @SabMei1 Vielen dank! ;-)

  • You're brilliant!

  • @leahlovesroses Thank you, I'm delighted you enjoyed this piece. ;-)

  • you rock!

  • @lamilanesade I rock, YOU rock! ;-)

  • Your videos remind me of some Disney cartoon movies :)

Thanks for bringing back good old memories

Keep up the awesome works!!! <3

  • @akatsuki2923 Thank you! I've actually made a few classic Disney cartoon theme covers on my channel ("Everybody Wants To Be A Cat" from The Aristocats and "That's What Friends Are For" from The Jungle Book). ;-)

  • what your Fav part to sing?

  • @BenAndJoshInc It's usually baritone because it's exactly in my range (like lead), but it's much more dissonant and fun. When you listen to the mix without the baritone, it really lacks that pleasant dissonance I love about barbershop. ;-)

  • I support this channel for your dedication to the barbershop breed of music.

Don't let this magical style fade.

  • @BlacklistBurned Thanks! Do share my barbershop videos with friends, I'd appreciate it! I too would love to hear and see more barbershop nowadays.

  • :.)

  • Do Bohemian Rhapsody!! XD THE WHOLE THING !!!!!!! >:D

  • YES! Do Bohemian Rhapsody!!

  • @MrFunxy You know, I have the sheet music, but it's a really tough piece. The vocals are very high and tricky, and honestly, comparison with Freddie Mercury isn't something that I look forward too. The song is a masterpiece already. Perhaps as a collab it might be worth a shot. I'll give it some thought. ;-)

  • Beautiful :D

  • @MrFunxy ... and thanks! ;-)

  • Really beautiful,as always. I heard some of the oroginal songs you preformed with

(like surfer girl, for example) and I really think you're bringing something special to them. most of them (when you sing) I think are even better then the original version.

:-) My dad and some of my friends

also heard you and they think that you're a really good musician

    and you're very talented.

Hope you'll keep up making such a great music, as you always do..

    :-))

  • @3Mitsi Thank you very much for the kind words and for sharing my work. ;-)

  • Beautiful. I think you should chuck a 6th (or 7+) in the very last chord to try to maintain the lovely build up you'd already achieved. That's not a criticism by the way, I love what you do.

  • @PianoFatso Thanks for the tip. ;-)

PS: I'd be happy to see what you do with the arrangement, if you care to give it a shot. I can send it over to you. Let me know.

  • @trudbol I would so love to be able to give it a shot but regret that I don't have your vocal talents (well my Mum thinks I do but that doesn't count!) I will have to stick to playing and arranging and leave the singing to those of you who do it best. ps I've listened to this over and over and it is my favourite Trudbol posting I think (together with Peg O My Heart).

  • @PianoFatso I meant giving it a shot in terms of tweaking the arrangement, not performing it (though I would encourage you to sing anyway). I'm looking for people who can arrange for voices. ;-)

  • youtube has now a speed feature?

    amazing has always!

  • Tu devrais faire des comédie musicales xD

  • @EmmaInCandyland J'en fais. ;-)

  • @trudbol rooooh XD! quoi quoi?!

  • @EmmaInCandyland J'ai posté deux vidéos de la comédie musicale "Oklahoma" dans laquelle j'ai joué l'année dernière. Tu pourras les trouver en tapant "trudbol oklahoma" sur YouTube

  • Great, as always!!

  • @Photonyx7 Thank you! ;-)

  • wonderful !! :)

I want to ask, do you arrange those songs by yourself?

  • @koonsingyee Some songs I arrange, yes, others I find sheet music for. ;-)

  • You know it's a good day when you see Trudbol in your suscriptions box.

  • @nitroteddy01 Thank you, I'm flattered! I just released a new video yesterday by the way. ;-)

  • Wow. You sing the best songs and make them better(Some of them I thought werent even possible) Way to go on that last chord. i loved that. Nice bass note btw. I cant wait till your next video. Ill be anxiously waiting :)

  • @1puppetmaster1 Thank you very much! The new video is out! ;-)

  • @trudbol I seen it lije 5 times now XD. Beat ya to it mate

  • What a beautiful song! great work.

  • @meganite4 Indeed, it's a great tune. Gwenatav and I first heard Clint Walker's cover of it and loved it. We're really happy you enjoyed our version too. ;-)

  • Holy cow! HOLY COW! I was just browsing through the site.. I came across this and thought I'd give it a go and GEEZUS! I was just blown away! You, Sir, have a TON of talent and your voice is so versatile! Kudos, man! Keep up the brilliant work!

O .O <--- that was me... having my mind blown

  • Thank you Trudbol. I was a little down today but your music always brightens up my day. I've been watching you for quite some time now. Keep up the phenomenal work! A capella for the win!

  • @HonduRican92 Thank you for you nice comment, I'm delighted my videos can have this effect. A cappella FTW! ;-)

  • j'adore t'entendre chanter merci pour partager ton beau talent avec nous

  • @bleis1 Avec plaisir ! ;-)

  • You never cease to amaze me my friend :) I love the piano playing too! So very nice and relaxing.

  • dude I lve what you do, but can you choose some more upbeat tunes

  • @madogblue I have several upbeat songs on my channel. I like variety too.

  • I just love this guy... ;) Wonderful music.

  • @tigerlady36 Thank you! I just released a new video by the way! ;-)

  • Question for you here, Trudbol. If you had the chance to be in a professional barbershop quartet or a capella group (Like The King's Singers), which singer would you most want to be? (Tenor, Bass, Baritone, Lead, etc.)

  • @DancesWithSquirrelz I'd probably to best singing baritone or lead. Bass parts are a bit low for me and tenor parts can be exhausting. ;-)

  • That yearning I chord, returning a V7/ii to hold you in my V7/V.

  • if someone asked me if i liked barbershop quartet music, before i saw your channel a year and a half ago, i probably would have said no. Im glad to say that i not only respect but enjoy hearing the music, especially when its yours. keep doing what you're doing and i hope it makes you as happy as it makes me.

  • @TheRevReview Thank you for your kind words, I'm delighted you enjoy my videos. ;-)

  • WONDERFUL!!!!

  • @boka110 Thank you! ;-)

  • That girl has back cleavage.

  • Can you share the music for this. "Sheet wise"

  • awesome :)

  • Excellent work once again! Good harmonies, I think, are what makes a song (any song!), and you have such excellent ear for harmonies! Congratulations!

  • @NenneEffe Thank you, I'm delighted you enjoyed it. ;-)

  • Do you think you could sing stile nacht?

  • @PurplePhoenix95 Yes, I will soon. ;-)

  • wow 100% liked lol

  • @notneededanymore Thanks! ;-)

  • @trudbol its all good :D

  • liked it better when you had different outfits for each part

  • @maxiewawa Baaaah...

  • I just think you should have about a million more subscribers. You're incredibly cool and and your songs ( and you, probably) are so lovable! I always love getting notified you have added more to your Youtube collection! I often go back and watch a few of the earlier ones after seeing the new one. I like your videos a LOT!

  • @awreslr2 Thank you, I'm delighted you still enjoy my videos after, what, 2 years already?

It's always a pleasure to read your comments. ;-)

  • you always make me fly away.... ^^

    good job :D

  • @MyOwnLight Thank you for that comment, I really appreciate it. ;-)

  • Another GREAT job (as always), Julien!!!

And the piano by gwenatav is also just great!!!

    Beautiful song!!!

    \õ/

  • @gustavokblo Thanks buddy. ;-)

  • Great as always :) However I have a question, how many takes do you need to record each track? Can you do it all in one take or do you sometimes mess up?

    Cheers :)

  • @Bleedinghippy Thanks! I had to do a few takes, to get the dynamics right, particularly for the lead that I sang first. I practiced without recording, so I couldn't really count the times, but I'd say quite a few!

I messed up on the other voices, yes, particularly the baritone, who makes some pretty dissonant harmonies with the lead at times.

I also have heavy construction work outside my house with drilling, so I lost several takes because of that as well. Hey, who said YouTube was easy? ;-)

  • This made me happy! Thank you you have a lovely voice <3 x

  • @annaclare88 Thank you! ;-)

  • You Videos make me feel so much better!

  • @Ididnthaveaname Thank you, I'm delighted you enjoyed this piece! ;-)
