If you've ever watched "Eureka Seven", there's giant robots called "ELO" and "KLF", as homages to the musicians.
The KLF are really interesting, actually. They refused to do any work until 2018 in 1995, and they destroyed their entire back-catalogue. Thankfully, due to the Internet, you can still listen to their music. Look up "What Time is Love", both the Stadium and the Pure Trance versions. It's awesome.

@hotelmario510 You'll find it interesting that they have a song titled "Shinji Ikari" and another called "Nerv/Seele" (Which has some screaming in it... Which I usually dislike in a song but nevertheless I really like the song). They are heavily inspired by NGE (Obviously) but aren't THAT popular. Well not yet at least. Try those two songs and "99" too.
@therealfolkblues007 Evangelion is one of those things that's pretty obscure for how creative it was when it came out. Pretty much every mecha show now draws at least something from Evangelion.
@therealfolkblues007 I wouldn't say EVERY anime, although Studio Gainax's work is deeply, deeply influential, and the idea of a depressed, weak bishounen definitely owes to Shinji, and the idea of a white-haired, "even the boys want him" bishounen definitely owes to Kaworu (his voice actor even made fun of himself on Sgt. Frog once by playing a very similar character with very similar lines).
@therealfolkblues007 Hell, just give the whole "shiny glasses" thing to Gendo. He made it cool. I want those freakin' glasses, man, and I can read stuff from, like, three or four meters away. Yeah, I actually want impaired vision just so I can have Gendo glasses.
A parody of the Giant Naked Rei also appeared in another episode of Sgt. Frog. She appears in a big, pink, biblical-angel-like form. She says things like "I think I'm the third" as a nod to Evangelion.

And I feel like I really need to watch Sgt. Frog now
@hotelmario510 I pretty much already watched all the Evangelion bits of it. you know, somewhere in japan, there was a 6 year old who probably watched that episode with Pink Rei and though 'How funny'. Then, 8 years later, the very same boy was told by a friend of a very good anime called neon genesis evangelion. The boy watched it... and along with probably being scarred for life, he felt a strange nostalgia whenever he saw Rei...
