I think they say "Struggling Oklahoma musician" because at the time when he auditioned for Idol he was living in Oklahoma and working as a bartender. So at the time he was a struggling Oklahoma musician.

The first 4 parts of this series are mentioning former contestants from season 7. Taylor Hicks was the winner of Season 5. Needless to say, just like former winners Ruben Studdard and Anastasia, he is sadly no longer a big deal in the music industry.I just hope the same doesn't happen to David Cook or Jordin Sparks.
