That was a little rambly and verbose, but like you said at the end..fuck it! It still accomplished what you initially set out to do with this video and that's all that matters.
In trying to understand this, is it fair for me to say that the third leg of a trichotomy is the emergent property of the interaction between the opposite poles in a dichotomy rather than a description of the spectrum between the two poles?
@leeheeman420 Everything has an inherent "urge" to be, to grow, to "know" its potential. Michael Ford calls this the Leviathan urge or nature of reality, matched up with the masculine and feminine forces. When two or more expressions (things, events, whatever) interact through that urge, a trichotomy is formed where most see only a dichotomy.
@egodiabolus666 I'm going to try use my highly limited understanding of quarks to see if I get what you mean. In a proton you'll find 2 up quarks and 1 down quark. The force holding them together is the strong nuclear force. So, in this example, the false dichotomy would be between the quark charges. The third leg would be the strong nuclear force. Am I understanding you correctly?
@leeheeman420 That sounds like a fair example... at least between quarks. I don't want to perpetuate the mistake the the Leviathan Urge is a binding force between objects, rather it is the inherent quality of an object to seek definition through interaction with other objects. The strong nuclear force, if I understand it, not only binds the quarks but maintains their relative distance. The Leviathan Urge is the nature of a thing to be changed or destroyed by interaction with another thing.
@egodiabolus666 Yeah, I don't mean to say the Leviathan Urge is a binding force, as you suggest. Let me try another example: Nature vs Nurture. I've known for a while that this dichotomy is false. Both genes & the environment change, or destroy, the outcome of a person or organism.
@shawnhartnell "Useful" is a relative term. I find the concept of a trichotomy useful in understanding processes, especially in situations when the model of a dichotomy fails to fulfill that understanding. I find that on those occasions when I have been aware not only of the dualistic influences in a situation but also the "Leviathan Urge" of a situation I am better prepared to take advantage of that interaction.
@shawnhartnell How about our exchange, right now. You have your motivations for engaging in it, and I have mine, but what is the urge that draws us together? Why you and I, this discussion, etc? Or, in sales, some buyers want to buy. They know they need the product. The sales-person does everything by-the-book, yet fails. We understand the motivations of each separately, so what is missing, or what needs to be there? Trichotomy offers a model for that discussion.
@shawnhartnell I was reaching for a example that might relate to a common experience. Sales is about getting the highest possible price for your product. A buyer wishes to purchase at the lowest possible price; they are opposed in motivation.
@egodiabolus666 I understand. I'm under the impression that a dichotomy is required for trichotomy to apply, so I'm trying to figure out what you mean by 'dichotomy'.
What am I missing or getting wrong in this definition of trichotomy:
"Trichotomy is an analysis and model of interaction of entities with opposing motivations."
@shawnhartnell The trichotomy model I offer states that dichotomies, while easy to recognize, are false. A dichotomy is actually a trichotomy, the third part is less obvious. Others have described trichotomy as either the medium of exchange/conflict or the result of that exchange/conflict. I disagree, theorizing that there is something inherent in all things which seeks to know its potential through exchange, the "Leviathan Urge" of Ford. A dichotomy is not needed, it is a misinterpretation.
@shawnhartnell You said it right, why didn't you get it? The Sorrell definition of Trichotomy is two or more forces and the urge to compare or contrast with one another in order to achieve greater understanding or potential.
thats like tantra the interaction is where the magic happens it isnt always predictable where its going to go its not going to be one or the other or inbetween its open to chaos and random possibility hence why shit exists in the first place do I get a cookie?

My brain just exploded. :) If a dichotomy is actually a trichotomy, but one isn't required, what is it?

I once envisioned the 'ultimate force' as three-value force contained between two poles. I was much crazier then, than I am now. :)
