i have a 7 month old great dane and shes not mellow at all! shes a total pest, ive just about tried everything and shes even in obedience training at petsmart. shes aggressive when u try to get her off the couch. she chases my little chihuahuas around and gets into everything. the other day she ran up and snatched the chicken right off my plate! what do i doooo? help!
@hillaryjp1 you need to establish yourself as the alpha. Make sure that you are the boss. Look up how to become the alpha with your dog and you should find lots of resources.
I have a great dane puppy called Bella. She is about 11 weeks old and into everything. They take a lot of time and effot. Bella already sits well when told and she has nearly learned "Lie" and "Paw". I have also had a great dane when i was about 3, he was a lovely dog and i used to sit on him and read him storys. Once they grow out of the puppy stage they are lovely dogs that just want a cuddle.
I'm thinking of getting a Great Dane, or maybe something with Great Dane blood in it (Mix Breed) and I was wondering whether they're intelligent and how easy it is to train them. I'm not really worried about real difficult stuff, although it would be nice, because basics would be first priority, so I was wondering if they are intelligent. Of course I'd have to work for it as well but some breeds I've heard are quite hard and don't listen etc.. Basically, any advice about them would be great.
@cheatahcrazy I have a male harlequinn he'll be 2 in May. They are smart, but stubborn. You have to stay on them and let them know that they can't get away with anything. Imagine a 160 lb three year old lol. Good luck, they are great animals, I love my boy
i love great danes!im 11 and i plan on getting a geat dane when im oder i also plan on having horses with big feilds so they can run around go on adventures and come riding with me.ya i know im a big dreamer
Don't stop dreaming and believing because dreams do come true. I shared a dream with my father when I was six years old, I'm 29 yrs old now. We both dreamed about having a big property with horses and now we have what we once dreamed about. We have been living our dream for about four yrs now, so don't give up your dreams.
hey was the same way, im 13 now. only im not too into great danes but i love horses, im trying to like danes but i was around what that jumped on my and bit mee. but anyways have you seen the movie dreamer? i love it, i think you wud too.
Oh , cool do you go for lessons? Oh , thats too bad. Well , its really not the breed its the owner . But , I would understand bcuz that must of hurt. I got bit by a bull mastif when I was 5 , but I really admire the breed now.
My 9 yr old has a great dane. She loves her. They go everywhere together also Harley carries a gear pack with thier camping gear. We have her trained to cart also so when we go kayaking harley pulls it for her. Harley loves the water so we have to slow her down so she doesnt get there first...
@pacifica1000 Me too. I'm a big dreamer and I don't count on anything stopping me now...I am young too, 22, and I believe that no one can limit us unless we let them. And that we are our own biggest fear and limit...whatever you can dream, if you really want it, you can have.
We didnt know how to leash train our great dane when we first got him and now he is a year old and we had to buy a head collar to be able to walk him with out being dragged. Any tips on how to leash train?
If YOU feel it's impossible or if you're giving up, contact a dog behavior therapist. I don't know anything about the possibilities in other countries, but here in Denmark we have one that can work wonders... I'm sure there's one near you too. :-) Possitive reinforcements always seem to work the best.
