I can confirm the GR3 will take a 2Meter drop onto concrete. Personally , accidentally did it at the Maui airport WITH a MM GPS receiver also on it. picked up the rover rod and was still initialized.
I use a topcon total station with a trimble collector. I've used several data collection software packages and Carlson was the most user friendly with TDS coming a close second. I've used Leica, Wild, Trimble, Sokkia, and Topcon instruments and I find Sokkia and Topcon to be the most functional and capable of quick, tight, sights. The optics in the Sokkia seem more crisp and clear than the Topcon but the ability of the Topcon to shoot through thick foliage. @0 years in the field back the opimion
I used to use Topcons back at my old company. I liked how quickly they were to set up and get down to business, which I found handy when doing basic construction surveying. I didn't like their build quality though, in the harsh australian sun the plastic would warp (not noticeable to the eye) enough to put the jigger out of level every 15-20 min.
The TSC2 Trimble style controllers are awesome. These things are built to military spec. (All but the antennae attached to the internal radio.) I've used these to run RTK with SPS series receivers, 5600's and S6 Robots. Hey at least the thing was alive and well enough to extract any data from it. Man as far as Trimble support. I've had great luck. I've grown up with Trimble. Started with the 4400 system in 1997. I bleed yellow for sure. :-)
OK, let put this to bed. Use Ireland as a geographical example. Trimble completely pull out and use 3rd party dealers now. Topcon opne up new branch in north of Ireland and now service all 32 counties from 2 offices. End of.
There are only two instrument manufacturers worth bothering about Trimble and Leica comparing the two is like comparing BMW v Mercedes. Everything else is a steaming pile o shite as far as I'm concerned.
I have used both Trimble and Topcon, i got a new Topcon GR3 and its the business, i much prefer it . Plus they say it can withstand a 2m drop onto concrete, but i dont intend to test it!!
I just got back from Trimble Dimensions in Vegas. It seems that people from all over the world use Trimble. Topcon is for back woods retards that only live in their own survey world and think they understand RTK. TRIMBLE 4 LIFE!!!
AWESOME! I've had mine for about a year now.. Good know to it can take a beating! haha. Maybe this is a little more then a beating, but it's still working. Did Trimble Warranty it out? That thing could be in a the hall of fame for making it! haha
This unit was involved in a serious fire , on a 4 wheeler during a farm field topography. The user was able to remove before the whole vehicle was burned beyond repair
You don't remember where your shop is??? Anyhow, this is a comparison between Topcon and tremble how? Did the unit cause the massive fire in the first place? Inquiring minds want to know
I am not affiliated with the person who posted this video, but I think the point they are trying to make is that Trimble components are built well. But as far as a comparison between Trimble and Topcon; no comparison. Topcon is not even the same swimming pool as Trimble.
Your right, the market reflects Trimbles Atari era technology against Topcons cutting edge it is no match and with Trimble dealer locations closing weekly and Topcon sales holding strong. No matter how good or a bad a product is the poor service you get from Trimble would drive anyone away.
are you a fucking retard? Topcon doesn't even service their customers equipment anymore, they passed that off to their dealers two years ago and now all they do is refurb product. What is you last comment based on? Nothing, it was something you made up. I can send you the news letter where topcon announced they would no longer directly service customer equipment. As for the market thing, you obviously don't know, please post something backing up your claims before you look like an idiot again,
How about the fact that I work for TPS and I am in the service Dept. Your way out of touch with reality anyhow if you think Trimbles customer service is better. As for TPS having regional repair centers this move allows for more work for our dealers and qualified repair centers throughout the country instead of only the West coast. Now we have many more Factory certified repair centers and techs to service our customers.
wow, your just reassuring my points, especially now since you've stated you work in the Topcon service dept. So again, how does passing off your customer repairs to your factory authorized repair centers show better customer service? All you do fix new product, not direct customer repairs so your comment makes absolutely no since. How much money did Topcon lose last year? I'll tell you, it was 2 million dollars. Trimble grossed 498 million. Your truly confused...
What's the use of its durability if it can no longer be used. There's no point to compare trimble vs. topcon in this regard.

Still not sure what this video is out to prove anyways. To me it shows that the Trimbl is just as ugly burnt as it is new.

A Topcon could easily handle all that just as well... and be repaired inexpensively.
