Nooooo, the reason this Flood encounter doesn't count in the long run is when they used their slip space drive to blow up the planet they had to use that slingshot maneuver around the sun. However, since they no longer had a slip space drive they couldn't warp back to Earth or any other UNSC stronghold, and ended up floating through space like Master Chief at the end of Halo 3.

Ok, what happened is that the flood-infested world was found by Captain Cutter and his ship fleet, (This is the time of Contact: Harvest) When Captain Cutter made the jump from Harvest to the flood-infested Forerunner World were the Prophet of Regret asslembeled his force. But to Destory the world which you will find out in the game, they had to use the only jump drive avaliable to the remains of the fleet. that ment that there was no way that Captain Cutter could warn of the flood

I prefer first person shooter against 3rd person overview. The flood just do not stay dead for some reason. I bet Halo 3 was not the end of the flood. The flood could have stored samples away in the forerunner shield worlds for future infestations.

Judging that the Flood mostly died out when the array fired, they had to of come back from the samples kept in Installations 04 and 05. Using that information, I think we can accurately assume that the other Halos also have dormant Flood, waiting to be someday released.

well when the flood were introduced in halo 1, you may notice they were released from an under ground base. Well they were pushed back and sealed in that base, and were massing spores for an army. then the covanant went in and realesed them. then they took over elite host bodys and marines, who you later find dead.

That doesn't make any sense at all though. The fight between the Cov and Humans, is because the covenant believe they need to kill the humans in order to limit the Floods spread and life. Destroying sentient life so that the Flood may not spread and live is the reason that the Covenant actually fight the humans. The Flood are technically the reason for the entire Halo storyline.

If you actually remembered, the Forunners built the rings as a last resort to starve the flood from consuming the galaxy; not necessarily causing it to go extinct. This would inhibit its growth and the Flood found on the shield world is one of the populations that was isolated for centuries.

@Zimtiki3 apparently if you beat the game on legendary it shows something that hints to them being destroyed. So if you take that into account, no one really knows about the flood until CE. Of course I've never seen that ending and I do agree that they should've just kept it Covenant and UNSC

@Zimtiki3 No, actually, the didn't put a hole in the story. I thougt so too at first, but when the game ends, they had to detonate their FTL-drive, which was capable of opening a slip space-window. Without the reactor the crew of the spirit of fire never made it home, and they were never able to tell the rest of humanity about the flood. So when master chief meets the flood in halo: combat evolved, it's still the first time for him and the others.

After looking through the Halo Encyclopedia, it is true that after the Spirit of Fire left the exploding sun, they were suddenly lost and have not reported back to the rest of the UNSC since 2531. If you beat it on legendary you can hear Serina say "wait, something has happened. Probably suggesting they're lost.
