What the player is trying to achieve is to combine Japanese traditional holiday (New Years') music with the Western holiday music, "Jingle Bell". The deep bell sound at the end refers to "Joya-no-kane"; on the New Year's eve, Japanese Buddhism temples ring their bells 108 times.

Yes, that is more or less what I've been trying to tell people. I didn't get the Buddhist temple reference, but I don't know how some people can't hear the tune, which is quite obvious. In fact, one could almost sing along with it, except for some parts that are more "abstract".
