Man, it's crazy to see the tradition I'm apart of of. I'm a sophomore in the band now, and honestly I feel so proud and blessed to be in this incredible band with Mr. Smith and Doc.
It's such a shame we didn't win this year, the judges were idiots if you had heard the tapes... one judge didn't understand what a solo was. :P Geez. Dunbar kids told us that we really won, and the crowd was silent for five minutes until anyone said anything after they called us second System is screwed up. Ah well.
This is a great arrangement. It uses all my favorite Les Miz songs and they are done really really well. My HS marching band just did this for our 2010 show. I always our arrangement because they are alot of really powerful hits in it but this is so awesome. im blown away.
We have this music sitting in our filing cabinets in the band closet, never been played. FANTASTIC. WANT. TO. DO. NOW.
Lafayette has pretty much blown me away. I cannot ever hope to have any band I'm a part of play so well. Great drill, excellent playing, and the singing of "Do You Hear the People Sing" is really a nice touch :) EXCELLENT JOB, BAND!!! :D (that's a whole helluva lotta people in one band, sheesh...)
@StarWarzFreak92 I'm pretty sure that was when my band director was still in that band!.... at that time i believe the group was well in the 200's maybe low 300's
Thanks for postitng! I am late at realizing these were on youtube. The seniors were sophomores when I was at LHS. It is great watching your moments to shine. I would love to see 88, 89. And maybe a better copy of 92. Not to be picky! Thanks again!
This was a great show! I was marching during this same time with AMHS (very small band). Though people make their jokes, they never consider how much work it is to not only remember ten minutes of music note for note, but to also remember the number of steps and directions...and wearing those hot uniforms in summer! lol. Though it's been 14 years, I'll still say "great job" for this performance.
We can, we just haven't had the right conditions to make a show like this. I blame last year on a bad senior class and horrible luck. I think we have what it takes this year to do an outstanding show, but everyone will have to "raise the bar".
Wow. I was COC that night as a sophomore in high school and I just about wet myself watching Lafayette and McGavock. Those two shows are one of the reasons I became a band director.
How did you get that spot as a freshman? Becuase you would have to be a freshman then because you can clearly be seen in the 1997 state video at the end.
Oh, because I was watching Belshazzar's Feast, and sure enough there you were, I was like wait that means he was a freshamn in 94! Well you should be proud to have such a prominate part in one of Kentuckys best marching shows.
Nope, this would mark the first and last time I ever played "drums" for Lafayette. I stuck with the pit, where I became section leader my last year. Thanks for the kudos though.
Bit of trivia: That drum was de-converted from a bedside table back into a drum for that show. It has since become a table again. ;) I still have the bandana however.
Man this brought back memories! I marched trumpet in this show. What's funny is that I can still remember where I was in the drill. I was on the bottom of the last "E" in "Lafayette," second from the right. :)
another one of the best shows in lafayette history. state was so exciting with an electrifying vibe of energy. dunbar performed an alfred reed sampler. McGavoc had an opera theme. all 3 bands were so hot! a beautiful day in marching band history. thanks Lafayette. Hi Misty Hamilton, Amy Igo.
he can still say this show was his least favorite show lafayettes done that anyone pays any attention too and i still think mightywag is colleen but w/e mighty you can deny it till you tell me
And I'm not even sure a show like this would win now, which is probably why we haven't done one like it. Don't the judges look more for technical proficiency than for drill difficulty? And face it, we could never pull off a show of this difficulty now.
yeah the udges look for technical proficiency which sucks because bands arent doing shows like this anymore. i think Lafayette could definately pull this show off. you just have to get great leadership and a drive in EVERY member. It could definately happen
They did a end of the show spell out in 91 93 94 95 96 97 98 99 2003 and a begging sorta one in 2005, yah i have all the video's, there awesome, i want an end of the show speell out too.
My besty was there that year!! She was on flute!

It was a fluke really. No one else worked out and there I was. Actually I tried my best to blend into the scenery my first year, but to no avail.
