The reason you think he has mostly "chiaro" and not "scuro" is because this is a "chiaro" piece. His is exactly the type of voice that should sing this piece. Have you heard his "Granada?" And ---- he's HANDSOME! BTW - the "scoops" and "glissandi" as someone else put it are a part of bel canto style. This isn't Mozart. How about doing a little research on vocal style before you criticsize this brilliant singer.

JDF has a remarkablre instrument,knows how to use it,and (most importantly) sticks to roles and composers that suit his voice.

Estimado, debes recordar que JDF es tenor ligero, y no lirico , ni menos dramatico como lo es Villazon, JDF cautiva con el timbre y no con los gestos, recuerda que lo ligeros son esas "Avis Raris" del 1800 que ya no existen, en donde ni siquiera asomaba un Verdi menos un Puccini. Entiendes¿?
A ver, nadie duda de que Diego es un gran tenor, pero para ser el mejor ha de aportar más sentimiento y no apoyarse exclusivamente en su depurada técnica vocal. A veces le falta transmitir emoción. Perdonen, y con todos mis respetos al Sr. Flórez, me quedo con Villazón y Vargas, siempre Vargas.

Definitivamente la voz de Juan Diego Flores tiene más claridad que la de Villazón, a éste último le falta dicción al cantar, hay partes en que no se le entiende. El don que tiene Juan Diego nadie lo puede negar!

He visto una interpretación de Villazón de marzo del 2,010, excelente con mejor fraseo, melodía, ciuda su voz ha mejorado su incompleta técnica. La parada de más de un año año le permitió comprender que no debía maltratar su garganta con cortes repentinos, quiebre violento del cuello, tragadera de aire y agudos a fuerza de sus cuerdas.Flores, virtuoso mundial en su repertorio de tenor lírico ligero. Villazón es t. spinto.
esta cancion la cantaba julian gallarre tenor navarro que murio hace mas de 100 años y del que no hay ninguna grabacion, aunque dicen que tenia dos laringes, algo que le hacia increiblemente superior a cualquier tenor. hay una pelicula que habla de su vida, os la recomiendo ver es fantastica. cuando canta esta cancion se encuentra fuera de navarra y mientras la interpreta recibe un telegrama de que su madre ha muerto
And why is he looking sad and tired in the end? That last line is one of ecstasy. He's got it all wrong. He is not understanding this aria. Scoops will not give meaning, or nuance. Schipa still has the best, groundbreaking interpretation of this aria. Even a bit better than Caruso's.

Pues bien, la tesitura de tenor ligero que este joven peruano tiene en su naturaleza, como impoluta y aromática flor de la canela, es tal calidad que sorprende como se puede llevar la dificultad fonal de este personaje a extremos de la más pura perfección. Esta es sin duda una de sus mejores actuaciones. En mi opinión, mucho mejor que la famosa "Ah mes Amis". En esta interpretación prueba que Plácido Domingo no estaba equivocado cuando afirmó que Juan Diego Flórez era el mejor tenor lírico de todos los tiempos.

@EdofEngland I am more than a vague opera fan and I will tell you what I don't like about JDL. Regarding his interpretation he never plays the role which he should but much rather he is always himself, the self inlove JDL enjoying his voice. Regarding his voice I don't like the lack of dynamic and colors. He has a monochromatic (white) voice.
@EDGARDOINOS, Flores has more fame and marketing than a great voice. Never reach the rank of Gedda, Caruso, Pavarotti, Gigli , Blake and all great tenor of history.

@keyomall estas celoso? diria lo mismo de Paquita la del barrio y todos los asesinatos en Mexico pero yo se que los mexicanos son mejores que esas desgracias, si no lo sabes este no es el primer Tenor peruano que destaca en el mundo de la lirica, en los 30;s Peru tuvo a Alejandro Granda un gran Tenor Lirico de la Scala de milano, en los 60.s el tenor ligero peruano Luigi Alva quien deslumbrara antes que Florez y en los 70;s a Ernesto Palacio otro tenor de la Scala de Milano y Juan Diego Florez

Hay algo celestial y delicado en la voz de Florez. Me gusta mas que Villazon. A veces me parece que a Villazon le falta aire cuando canta. Ademas, es mas un actor que un cantante.
Le hace falta mucha educacion, y debe de sentarse en terrenos q le sean familiares para el color de su voz, y no cantar operas que estan estrictamente hechas para tenores dramaticos: sea Placido Domingo, o Villazon.

Hace unos días entre a ver este video y no estaba en youtube, al parecer lo habían sacado o no sé qué pasó, pero qué bueno que ya este de vuelta... Gracias al que lo colgó tiene el mejor audio y Juan Diego se ve increible.

Definitivamente la voz de Juan Diego Flores tiene más claridad que la de Villazón, a éste último le falta dicción al cantar, hay partes en que no se le entiende. El don que tiene Juan Diego nadie lo puede negar!

Ni comparación con Villazón, querido amigo. Es bueno, pero Juan Diego es un privilegiado, su voz es clara, su metal es hermosísimo, Además es un cantante serio, dramático y canta sin esfuerzo y sin hacer gestos. Es completo. Juan Diego eres un orgullo para el Perú.

@TheCharoarroyo Pasión es de lo que carece Florez comparado con el arte de Villazón, que importa los gestos, recordemos que tambien estan actuando, se trata de apasionarse, de transmitir esos sentimientos a la gente, si te fijas no mencionaste ni una sola cualidad musical de Juan Diego, solo técnica, cualquiera hace la técnica, pero llegar a expresar algo con esa técnica, eso es el arte.

@1993eph Noes la mejor interpretación de Juan Diego Florez en esta aria. He visto una interpretación de Villazón de marzo del 2,010, excelente con mejor fraseo, melodía, ciuda su voz ha mejorado su incompleta técnica. La parada de más de un año año le permitió comprender que no debía maltratar su garganta con cortes repentinos, quiebre violento del cuello, tragadera de aire y agudos a fuerza de sus cuerdas.Flores, virtuoso mundial en su repertorio de tenor lírico ligero. Villazón es t. spinto.

esta cancion la cantaba julian gallarre tenor navarro que murio hace mas de 100 años y del que no hay ninguna grabacion, aunque dicen que tenia dos laringes, algo que le hacia increiblemente superior a cualquier tenor. hay una pelicula que habla de su vida, os la recomiendo ver es fantastica. cuando canta esta cancion se encuentra fuera de navarra y mientras la interpreta recibe un telegrama de que su madre ha muerto

And why is he looking sad and tired in the end? That last line is one of ecstasy. He's got it all wrong. He is not understanding this aria. Scoops will not give meaning, or nuance. Schipa still has the best, groundbreaking interpretation of this aria. Even a bit better than Caruso's.

I dislike his mindless singing -- there is no variation to fit the meaning of the words, there is only one emotion here throughout and he expresses this aria as if were just a sad aria. where is the joy that is being expressed by the words? He is just going with the flow of his voice. He has got it wrong.

Esta es sin duda una de sus mejores actuaciones. En mi opinión, mucho mejor que la famosa "Ah mes Amis". En esta interpretación prueba que Plácido Domingo no estaba equivocado cuando afirmó que Juan Diego Flórez era el mejor tenor lírico de todos los tiempos.

Regarding his interpretation he never plays the role which he should but much rather he is always himself, the self inlove JDL enjoying his voice. Regarding his voice I don't like the lack of dynamic and colors. He has a monochromatic (white) voice.

@jrakg It could be that he is beginning it very softly, but the microphone is not catching him on the instant of 'sound onset' because either he's too soft for the mic to catch, or the mic is closer to the orchestra than to him, making it sound like the orchestra is ahead when they might actually be right together.

@cucuchi1 si estoy deacuerdo, es alguien como de otro mundo, que al escuchar su voz y ver ese rostro tan lindo parece que uno esta en el paraiso , es lo mejor ,,,es un tenor incomparable que canta con todo el sentimiento que brota de su corazon, haciendo vibrar las fibras del ser que lo escucha. como me gustaria verlo y escucharlo personalmente
