Look at a quake model; you'll notice a pattern. The West coast (SoCal, Nevada, NoCal, down and around again) forms a ring. There's already a Pacific ring. The ring on the West Coast acts like an Idler Gear. It looks like this: OoO The 3 gears turn each other. The Pacific Rim (far left ring) turns, and it turns the idler gear (middle), the idler is beginning to turn a third gear on the East Coast (far right gear). It's at CO, OK, MO now VA and NY. Next, NE Canada and N Central Canada may be next.
