  • @vladradforpres5 Hey, If those planes had a kitchen....

    About Nose art :)

  • Very cool!

  • Oh, and thank you to Corpral Donald Elson, for his service!

  • Very educational....

  • This is a great collection, Val! Easy to see where Donald was aiming his camera then. :-)

My Dad had tales and photos of his own of some of the AMAZING artwork done on those planes, and as you said in the description, such frivolity served as an enormous morale boost when they needed all they could get.

And 40+ years later, when we flew for fun in his Cessna Skyhawk, he christened her "Foxy Lady." No nose art other than her name, but it was done with solid reverence for that memory.

  • very cool! There were a lot of hormones running in WWII.

  • oh shit man

  • Now that's art with a purpose! I bet it kept the morale high...

  • Dang that was Cool!!

  • what a saaaaweet trip down memory lane.... hugs from yaya

  • It's funny they wouldn't be allowed to paint such things nowadays. Oh well.

  • Thanks for posting I didnt know nose art existed. :)

  • how u been darlin....

  • Interesting collection. Thanks for sharing!

  • cool!

  • I think the art helped to remind the guys what they were fighting for, what was waiting for them when the war was over -- the safe lives of all their loved ones back home. Thanks for posting this fascinating bit of history!

  • Nice! Thanks for making history interesting.

  • I was born in 1952, but I do remember a lot of this. In no way was the nose art meant to degrade women. Not at all. So, you people who feel this way, get a life! These guys risked their lives (and others lost theirs) so you can sit on your butt and complain about the art work . DameEdithDevine, you are the new lady of the 21st century. I would love to just meet and talk with you (including your wonderful husband). Thanks for sharing these wonderful memories. You are wonderful!

  • Yankee Made or Texas Doll, it's all Forbidden Fruit. Thanks for the memories.
