Sadly, Americans believe whatever they're told by talking heads in boxes; 9/11, "war on terror", "the economy is getting better", "Iran has nukes" (WMD's Part Deux), "cross the border and you'll be killed".
A guy named H.L Mencken summed it up best;
"No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American people"
Circus man PT Barnum used that line a lot. So amazing are Americans that in a 'Ask Yahoo' segment, someone asked 'what does this mean'?
This is a question that I have been asked a lot on emails, Is Mexico Safe to travel?? I really think that people need to use critical analysis of news as well as find other information sources. The North American Media moguls are systematically attacking Mexico's reputation and making this country look like a war zone worst than Detroit, LA, New York or Columbine!! Please check my note on the matter at our facebook page on our profile Oasishostel Puerto Vallarta.
This is my third time back in Puerto Vallarta, I absolutely love it here. I think people need to stop listening to all the nonsense and experience this incredibly beautiful and SAFE city on their own. Im staying at Oasis Hostel wwwoasishostel. com and I feel more safe here than I do back home in Seattle.
Well, Ryan needs to update his cartoon for current events. "Safety concerns prompt Princess to cancel Puerto Vallarta call". You can read it in today's USAToday Travel secion.
I love mexico!! Come and have the best fun ever! One of the best things living in mexico is that you don't really have to worry about police, if you have enough money. But dont think you need to have thousands of dollars, naah! just some 50dlls will make too happy any policeofficer. But you can party hard down here!! Have seen Skins? well thats lame! Jersey shore lame... they would have more fun if it was Cancun Shore or any mexican shore!! I can tell
The douchebag on the left sounds like every AM Talk Radio show host - and their guests, or the morons on Craigslist.
STILL laughing at this skit, as it brings home a line from author John D. McDonald:
"Most American's passports should be stamped; 'Not Valid Outside The US' "
I'm now basically here, selling off my crap and packing up. Found a beautiful little seaside country that isn't bankrupt, doesn't spy on it's people, doesn't MURDER it's people to start wars, nor illegally invade others.
What often gets unreported is petty crime and injurie against tourists. A lot of these people who keep on bragging about Mexico are the adventure seekers or risk takers. The rest are those who have a vested interest in the tourism industry. If you're a big dude or somewhat intimidating gringo, you're probably going to be fine in Mexico...there are other targets to be had. ANd remember, if anything unfortunate happens to you in MX, you're on your own ;)
@DraftedByTheMan Haha, because all those incidents happened to the same person on the same trip right? Please. It's bitter milk that comes from the Fox News teet my friend.
Glad I'm not in Mazatlan, not only do tourists get shot but out of our group of 30, nine were shook down by the police for driving infractions - even when they were passengers in cabs! We were told by a cab driver there are only half the tourists there should be this time of year. I guess that means you have twice as much chance as getting shook down. They are killing the goose if you know what I mean.
This is a response to the over-simplified view that Mexico is involved in an internal drug war and so it is a dangerous place for tourists. I lived and worked in Mexico recently and the drug war isn't the problem for tourists. What the drug war has highlighted, in giant yellow letters, is that there is no rule of law there. Police are to avoid, by visitors and locals. If you have enough money, you make your own law. Don't expect your American or Canadian govemment to help you.
@pazzacalze you sir need to spread the word, for it is true. Tell your neighbors, tell your buddies. Faux news and billo can go suck on a lemon for all i care.
Actors & famous people have homes here - if this were not a safe place to live - they would not be here....I travel to PV almost every year - it is beautiful & they are great hosts - no probems ever...who believes what they read in the paper anyway???
This is being shared with all of our relatives and friends who, unfortunately, might be a little offended by how much your characters sound like them. What a hoot...and thanks for the stats, we'll be quoting those a lot no doubt!
I have been living in the Baja for the past 12 years and as a single woman alone for the past 4. I feel safer here than I would living anywhere in the US or Canada. As a business owner I have been very affected by the bad press from the American and Canadian media. We need to educate people that it is safe to visit and travel to Mexico. I think this video would be more effective if you had the one character change the other´s mind..."OK, let´s go to Mexico so that I can see for myself!!"
@debcebula that won't happen. the US media needs to continue to have bad press on mexico so they can continue funding the 'war on drugs' (which is useless btw) and to vilify mexican workers in the US

love this! thanks, hope it gets lots of play. I live in PV and it's amazing....
I was waiting for you to come back on the line about 200 Americans killed in Mex with how many are killed in any American city in a year... It would be interesting to see the murder stats in the US cities.
Thanks for the kind words. What do you mean by a real transcript? I wrote it out of frustration from not being able to do anything about the biased reporting I keep hearing from sources like Fox news.
@simplyvallarta I love this. I share your frustration with the biased media reports of the 'violence' in Mexico. I have gone to Mexico - Puerto Vallarta and Manzanillo - over 20 times during the last four years. Sometimes I have gone with my husband but many of those times I went with another blond woman and we never, ever had one moment of concern for our safety. We love Mexico and we love the Mexican people . Thanks so much for doing this and I plan to share it with all of my friends.
@simplyvallarta plase feel free to spread the word. Shit is already bad without faux news, but they still neglect to mention that becuase of the USA´s endless demand for drugs, things are what they are. And yes like anywhere in the world, there are deuschebags in Vallarta, but the truth be told, many a gringo hang around in Vallarta. I have my gringo friends, i visit them in the USA and also we get together in Vallarta.
I've lived in Puerto Vallarta for 15 years full time and have not had any problems. I'm a single woman. I have friends that drive down yearly and they also had no problems at the border or anywhere. You just have to use common sense.
Vallarta is like heaven on earth. Even the AARP has recommended it as one of the best places to live. We have pretty much everything here these days.
Lots of cities in Canada and USA have way more crime then we do and no one is saying not to go to there.

I JUST sent this link to AM Talk Radio Tim Conway Jr., as he and a co-host were doing the usual AM radio hyper-hysteria of Mexico.
'Not Valid Outside The US'....
And why I try to stay away from Americans when I travel.
