Yep! And he started out as such a timid little guy once bullied by our Pygmy buck until he was around 200 pounds. Such a docile and gentle temper I was worried he'd even breed at all. Didn't seem to like the girls at first. We mocked him. A tiny Pygmy would beat him silly and steal his women! One day, he just had enough and realized he was king out here. Downside is that, if he doesn't like the grass here, he'll just hop fences. He busted the fender on that trailer, too!
Apologies for the delay in response! Yes, he is the sultan of the goat harem here. Our finest buck. Not the most handsome, but the biggest. His genetics give us some really nice kids. Lots are crazy about Boer fullbloods, but, in our mountain climate, a crossbreed of Boer and Alpines (like Saanens) do best out here. Greater weight gains per day, more robust on pasture, less problematic, larger frames and more meat in less time than Boers see.
No broken backs. Just a tiny Pgymy yearling he once romanced too much and which needed a C-section. Vet removed from her a gigantic, dead kid buck. After that, we culled all the Pygmies. But, his breeding gave us an interesting halfbreed of Boer fullblood/ Boer Pygmy -- very much like a dwarfed Boer. Very robust goats, too. Problem free compared to Boers and even the Alpines, but they downgrade the meat goats and we mostly keep them for a small degree of 4H sales fascinated by them.
what an amazing animal. do you sell his offspring or do you mostly have your goats for pets.
