Single engine taxi is pretty much common on all flights at the Captains discretion. With the price of fuel rising and rising it does saves money over the course of the year.
You will be just fine. Trust me. I was scared on my very first flight but once it happened, I wanted to fly over and over again. When it gets to the runway, you hear clunks which can freak people out. Dont worry about them, its just the pilot getting into gear etc. You'll be just fine and enjoy your trip =)
Most airlines taxi with one engine shutdown nowadays as it saves them Millions of pounds in fuel costs every year, plus the engines are powerful enough on the 757 to taxi with idle thrust!!!
@thomsonair Yes, but remember Aer Arann are small props, not a boeing 757. Propeller aircraft always do it, my point was I'd never seen a Jet aircraft do it.
Great Video. My uncle is a senior captain at Thomas Cook operating the 757, while I am type rated on the 757 and work for Thomson, both great airlines, but you know which one I would recomend.
Whenever I go on Airbus narrowbodies with BA or easyjet they taxi on one engine. Never experienced it on a 757 though. Interesting approach, the crew raised the speedbrakes 4 times, usually you're lucky if they do it once! And the gear was lowered before the flaps/slats.
I work for TCX and I can tell you that the engine shut down procedure is part of the current fuel saving policy. I am sure you can imagine any fuel that can be saved over a season would amount to quite alot money.
Great vid.
Ps my son & daughter loves all of your plane and train videos and is a great way of calming them down before bed haha
@windowspczone It says the date & time right at the start :/ It was yesterday departure time was 9:55 english time which was 10:55 Ibiza time and landed at 12:08
Awesome contrails at 12:15! Love seeing them like that. Btw, I think taxiing on 1 engine is quite common. At least I've been on some recent flights were that's happened. Another great upload :)
Absolute Fantastic video mate! you must have so much patients, thankyou for sharing it with us.
Im off to Cyprus at Easter on Thomas cook Boeing 757!!! xx

Also the gear was lowered because he was either high or fast or both and at low speed the gear is better than spoilers in loosing height and speed.

@dskxalive Our pilot said the red arrows were performing below us! And the clouds were really rough, as you can see between the 18 - 19 minutes mark.

@Benjaminvader I've heard of like ATR's and Dash8's taxiing on 1 engine but never a jet aircraft, maybe its a new thing... :/
I've just up-loaded the full video of that race! Its got much more footage of it :)
