  • bass reflex it is optimat !

  • band pass to me sound bizare! not for bug events!yes one pice can go down to 16 hz but !we don-t need that !!!and with a big amp sounds boxy sound !to me there are not as good jonathan!Enyway i do big stufff!band pass semms to colorated sow much the sound!

  • You forgot folded horns...

  • The first design is actually called "Horn Loaded" Or A "Scoop"

The second design is called "Vented" Or "Direct Radiating"

The last design would be a 4th Order Bandpass.

Bandpass subwoofers only play at one certain frequency.. hence the fact that they would be loud..depending on what frequency they are being played at.

  • This video has a shitload of misleading information.

  • @gtr3cords Assuming uou will use this 4 a home sound system an internal amp is ideal because a receiver will not push your sub as hard and most receivers will give u a liitle treble through it unless u have a channle 4 it so then u also need 2 put in ur AV cords to plug into the active "Powered" Sub plug For max preformance

  • hey ive been DJing for 7 years im 15 years old, ive been using 3 way speakers but I want to change to have some bass speakers and on top some mid and high but i still not to sure what I need exactly what to get, like the cross overs and like some kind of equalizer can You give some great advice like a list what i would need to buy what im looking for, thanks

  • The long throw design looks like a Fibonacci spiral, i wonder if it was designed based on that.

  • Thanks man, that really cleared things up.

  • can you plz give me the names of the type of speakers your talking bout to see them myself just to get a better picture?? (no offense) lol thank you

  • auf deutsch wäre es noch besser

    aber sonnst eigentlich ganz gut

  • you are on drugs if you think bandpass is best no big sounds use them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • man said bandpass is the best for out door use. LMAO!!!!!!! dude bandpass are trash.

  • what are the measure of all devisions inside the long throw speaker box? thanks....more power

  • 1st one rear loaded horn(scoop) ain't long throw, it's medium throw thats why touring rigs never use them.

2nd one is short throw, bass reflex, useless for outdoors, unless you use LOADS and LOADS of them.

3rd one, short throw again(bandpass), goes deeper than reflex but unless outside unless you have TONS of them.

outdoor touring rigs use long throw folded horns like the W bin.

  • would a sub work just as well as band pass?

  • nice!!

  • I have a 12 " DEI sub in my car fitted into a bandpass tube which I have just finished. It sounds the nuts and would recommend it over the other designs. Having said that, it does depend on what sort of sound you want.

  • first 1 is a long throw

  • The first design is a transmission line, not a 'long-throw', lol. A long-throw subwoofer is a fancy name for a driver with a large Xmax. A transmission line sub doesn't necessarily 'throw bass far', it all depends on the driver and design. You don't need a port to use the backward motion of a driver. When a speaker moves back and forth it pressurizes and depressurizes the airspace around, creating sound. The second designed is a ported/vented sub, not a forward sub. :S

  • i´ve an second question.. on witch system i can listen techno very loud and bassfull?

    THX

  • whats your budget? i know almost every computer set of speakers

  • i think 1000€

  • Get some wharfedale speakers.. The EVP active series are rather good.. Tested a few and made my friend buy two X215, but I had such a discount so it was a robbery =)

  • hi i´ve a small question i have 2 12"woofer and i will the bigest bass from this woofers but i dont know witch of this 3 types i must use i think the band pass but i dont sure and is the long throw not a good idea for ma room?

    realy good vid =)

  • Obviously the long throw isn't good for your room hence the name "long throw" (explains itself)

I'd say (as he describes it) the "forward" design would be your best bet. You probably wouldn't need two for you room mind.

  • The band pass must not sound best.. depends in what the sub's for.. to play alone or along the rest of the frequency responses? It's brings U the ability to set a few frequencys the way u want them.. byt to match music, for example... their not even close the enclosed boxes ability to produce a sound as "true" as the instrument... just a hint (=

  • this gay comment of yours is just like your user name "Bird Brain" i bet these "punks or Ni---rs" have more money invested in a system than you make in a year.

  • why don't you just suck my dick??

  • Cheers helpful info....

  • one well designed front loaded bass horn 'armed' with single good 12" driver has the efficency like 8 18" front ported bassreflex subs. belive it or not

  • Horn (Box nr1): Big , but Highest efficency Highest Fidelity Bass . Bass Reflex (box nr2) : Good efficency , small size and medium delay. Bandpass (Box nr3) : High efficency , small enclosure , but really high delay. So you get the best bass from horns ,an the best compromise from bass reflex.for hifi bass use a front loaded horn or a closed baffle enclosure.Bandpass speakers are great for hiphop or reggae , but since they have such an great delay most bandpass speakers only create "sound soup".

  • The Horn description isnt really right ...

  • Yeah. If you really want to enjoy good sounding bass, band pass rules.

  • Oh well.. Like I Said Before

this is where I need help.

    Thanks Ellaskins.

  • your "long throw" type is actually a folded horn design--the way it works is the cavity gets wider as the sound travels through it, turning pressure into displacement. these are the most efficient type. the second type would be more accurately called vented, ported, or bass reflex, and they are the most compact type. (all of the types you described are forward-facing.) I don't know much about bandpass speakers.

  • Sleep-we use two Cerwin Vega EL-36's for each side of our tri-amped PA system. For each side we butt them together and lay them on their sides (forming a single large exit). We are easily sending low freq. content (28-40 hz) 60+ feet away at almost 120db. Being paired into a single large throat helps extend the low freq. ability of these simple folded horns.

  • I love bass!

  • bandpass boxes have to be tuned correctly(different for every sub).. don't attempt to guess the volume of each chamber or buy one unless it was designed for that sub. i'd suggest checking with the manufacture for recommended dimensions.

  • Ellaskins, (or someone ells), Do you know where i can find any drawings or something to make a Band pass speaker on my own??

    Thank you

  • Then again, it does come down to need. If you are happy with what your subs do, there is not an urgent reason to upgrade. If you need more, take a good look at horns, along the EAW lines, or along the Bill Fritzmaurice DIY builds on a budget. I own two Bill Tuba 30's loaded with 12" drivers, and they will kick the crap out of a dual 18" bin.

  • Lastly, they throw farther, because there is not as much distortion/added harmonics to cause cancelation. However, there are downsides to most production horns. Most marketted horns have a big 18" driver, and a short horn path. Aweful idea, and marketting only. Those big Cerwin Vega horns do not go very low, because the 18" driver takes up to much space, so the horn is too short. If you want a better horn, look at EAW LA400 style horns, or a DIY build, Bill Fritzmaurice, look it up :)

  • Horn loaded cabinets seem to "throw" farther, because they lack additional distortion/harmonics created by normal cabs. This makes them sound quieter at a short distance, because of the lack of distortion/additional harmonics.

  • Add in the fact that in general, horns are more directional

  • The primary reason why a "long throw" subwoofer will "throw" farther, has nothing to do with how fast the sound comes out. The speed of sound does not vary, it is a constant. If you change the speed sound travels, you also change the frequency.

  • Sound quality wise, bandpass is terrible. Bandpass gets loud on a very narrow array of frequencies, and then lacks the rest of the frequencies. Most companies that make bandpass boxes tune them high, and you will never hear a not below 35 hz out of them. Depending on what type of music you listen to, I would recommend either a sealed or conventional ported box. In order to get low, use a ported box and tune to 28-32 hz.

  • Long throw works like your thumb over a hose. Compress and sends the water, or in this case , sound wave farther but just like the water hose, with less volume. The more you stack together, the greater the "coupling" of the waves and then you start to reach an increase in bass frequency and volume as well. All systems sound better with Beer. The beer should be cold if Your Canadian.

  • Band passes comes in a single dual or Triple chamber There is a draw back to a single band pass as shown. The tuning of the port will only actsentuate a narrow band of bass. Hence the dual and triple ported chambers can all be tuned at different points of the bass spectrum for a wider and fuller coverage of bass. Provided the cabs above a single band pass box are a fuller range speaker, the narrow band with on a single band pass will work great as I'm sure is Johnathons experience.

  • also, band pass cabinets can act as natural crossovers.

  • I have KENWOOD speakers that are band-pass. I don't know what my logitech X530s are though. By the way whats with your right hand? It looks kinda burnt or something.

  • logitech x-530s sub is ported.

  • Back to school. Thanks

  • Cool Rings :))

  • lmfao.. "u shud get the bandpass bass cabs, umm they DO KIK ASS!" lol nice

  • ok i know as much as this guy prolly more.. and i have a bandpass box with 2 10" subs and a vented. its kind of like the longtrow but kidna of ported two its a rectangular port. and that houses 2 12"s

:p.. hope to get 2 15" in a sealed box n make it ported(""forward"" to the video)

  • Today I made my new speaker... "band pass" thankee very much for yours briefs.... The sound was realy good....

  • Good, !! a well made band pass kickes ass!! johnathan

  • I think my logitech z-5400 sub is a bandpass.

  • i got a b52 whale bass speaker i plan to get another do you think its better to get one amp for each for better performance ornot?

  • its down to ohms go see vids on ohms!! johnathan

  • oh...yes....the next box i'm building, is definatly an bandpass-speaker^^

  • what would be a good setup for outdoors?

  • Depending on the amount of people, a small two way of about 1,000w(1k) for a croud of up to 100, but over that and you will need a bigger system . For outside a horn loaded system is better as it throws the sound a greater distance. If you play outside a small full range cab will be no good!

  • wow Thanks dude

  • Great videos, thank you.

  • yo thanx for good info

  • what do u think is best for bed room djing as far ass subs go and also whats best to use for monitors

    thanks

  • For bedroom use you just need a good set of 12" and horn( the small speaker), you only need big bass for larger rooms.

  • i hav a par of long throw bass bins and a par of w bins but not like the 1 on your video... i didnt know long throw bins was for that thank you 1s agen u r a really big help... i wold love to get some plans for the band pass bins thay sound like wat i need if u cold help me out ther it wold meen alot to me.. thank you agen
