  • this is the fist time I have seen another child do he same thing as mine Son, who was diagnossed almost a year ago, he is now 3 and half. I have to say I am not feeling so alone about now, I have mostly read about stimming, but at all the different schools my Son has been to in the last year and half, I hadn't met another child who stims the way my boy does., It's so hard on us at times, it takes over his personality when we are out in public and makes doing fun news things depressing.

  • so cute!

  • My son used to do the exact same thing and we thought the same thing....he's just enjoying life. He's in 2nd grade now and its amazing to see the progress. Good luck to you and God bless!

  • shes so cute!

  • arm flapping does not automatically mean autism, but ... if she's been diagnosed, you might want to call your local public school district. I know here in Texas

Many school districts will test for autism and possibly get her into an Early Learning program (Pre K) or some speech therapy. call your local elementary school and ask them to test her. Programs may be available to help you even at this age.

  • children dont get overdiagnosed.....there are many tests for autism. Parents tend to overlook flapping as part of excitement, instead of seeking a professional diagnosis to help a child get treated. Thanks for sharing your video and awareness!

  • i have an autistic son this lil girl does not seem autistic at all great eye contact responsive believe me my son does none of that good luck

  • I call the autistic one "Flappy". ;)

  • Every child at that age does those things....

  • She is sooo adorable!!:D

  • I think this video and its comments raise some interesting points.

  • she is just happy all kids do that with their arms wen there happy my kids did that and their fine thay grow out of it

  • She is a precious little girl; seemingly high functioning and intelligent. At age four, I wonder how she is managing? I hope she is healthy and has the best possible care for her Autism.

  • Some children have what are called excitable tantrums. My one child did this.He eventually outgrew it. Ask your pediatrician, though.

  • ok so im a little worry because my 2 yr old girl does exactly what she does and my mother for some reason thinks that she might have a little problem

  • @lissettegijay Jeeze, what is it with parents trying to find problems with kids. First they diagnosed ADD to kids who that just had a tad more energy than other fatter kids. And that's where it began. Next thing you know there won't be a "Normal" kid anymore, parents will find so many so-called "Problems/Disorders" with kids that kids can't act like kids anymore. Just because a 2 year old doesn't act like a butt-hurt 45 year old, doesn't mean she's not normal. Let kids act like kids.

  • She is adorable! :) but I think you should consider another syndrome...tourettes. I have had tourettes since i was 4 and this is how one of my first tics were shown flapping the arms... excessive blinking. Goodluck, I dont know why ya'll are calling it autism she is responding well, it truely looks like tourettes.

  • Omg those cheeks, those dimples...so cute!

  • She looks like she's flapping her arms because she's excited about the stickers. I think kids are being overdiagnosed with this disorder.

  • @lowencope I couldnt agree more!!!!!!!!

  • arw how sweet is she! my little brother is seven and has Aspergers Sydrome and is very clever just like your daughter. They are such lovely people but some people out there dont have enough patients and time for special people who need just a bit of extra help x

  • i think she is sooo cute!

  • There is a very nice, and true, in my own opinion, video here in YouTube called in Spanish Mi hermanito de la Luna, its spoken in French, wi

th subtitles in Spanish, but still you don't need to understand the words because the picture tells you all. Try it and tell me what you think of it.

Ah the girl in this video is so cute!

  • Oh my word, she flaps just like my 4 year old does. He was diagnosed at 2 years. To anyone who says all small children flap - yes they do but as they grow, the flapping doesn't stop and it becomes more apparent. They have no control over it, it's an emotional thing for them. Your daughter is gorgeous.

  • Please check out a great Children's book about Autism, PDD and ADHD called 'Why Is He Different?' (Please spread the word about this unique book, tell your friends and tell me what you think about it. Big thanks!!). You can preview it on youtube profile called Monalisaknew. Just copy and paste the following sentence in youtube search window: 'Why Is He Different? (Autism Book)'

You can also buy this book on AthsePublishing(dot)com. Thank You !!

  • hi there i am 23 years old and i have aspergers and i want to say she is cute

  • she is so cute

  • your daughter is more devolped at 2 than my 4 year old is. she still cannot point to things or speak that well, but boy is she a flapjack!

she has not been diagnosed with any disorder, her dr's just say she is "developmentally delayed".

  • you need to see a different pediatrician!!! At 4 years old it is more than just a developmental delay if your child can not point or talk....I am assuming you know this already and do not want to admit it but you need help early! Get a new Dr.!!!

  • Not to scare you but you definitely should see another doctor. If your doctor hasnt recommended further help and evaluations for your 4 year old who is unable to communicate properly. Shame on that doctor.

  • SOOOOOOOOOO cute!!!! I love her!

  • wow I have severe aspergers and flap all the time and always walk round in circles for at least half an hour non stop

  • She's so cute! My son has PDD-NOS and sometimes flaps his hands when he runs.

I like to think, they get so excited that feel like they're flying!! :)

  • Actually, a lot of small children have repetitive movements like that and a very small percentage turn out to have autism.

  • I used to flap my arms when I was younger. I was diagnosed with mild Aspergers

  • good communication skills.... looks like she'll be high functioning! good luck

  • aww what a cutie :P

  • uh, I don't think she's autistic. She shows pretty good language development.

  • aww she looks like such a happy little girl :)

  • She is beautiful! See my vid on autism. luv2u

  • Wow, that's a lot of flapping.

  • Ava is so cute. :D

I've gotten really interested in Aspergers because my boyfriend has it. I think it's refreshing the way he thinks. He didn't flap, but rather rocked back and forth violently.

  • Yeah, I rock back and forth sometimes.

  • me too!

I also clap my hands when I get excited lol

  • I did that when I was a child, so I was tested. I have met some amazing who have Aspergers and Autism. I think it's unfair that they are labeled as less intelligent. They just don't communicate the way we do.

  • Each of my kids flapped his arms and hands when they were little and excited. They are 20and 15 now and stopped it. I worked in a daycare for a year and almost every toddler there made the same motions when they were doing something they enjoyed. If the child can talk, makes eye contact, and enjoys physical contact with her parents, where would the idea come from that she even has minimal autistic tendencies?

  • My thoughts exactly.... Sometimes it seems people want their kids to have autism.

  • Exactly. I cannot believe children are being diagnosed autistic because they flap their arms. They ALL do that.

  • I agree, I dont think that by flapping hands or arms one is autistic, that must just be considered ONE symptom, and not the one that determines AUTISM.

  • Your little girl is a real cutie -- and you are a fun Mom! My mother would NEVER let me put stickers on the wall! I hope your daughter is doing well.

  • gaaah. i remember when i was little, i used to do that. apparently, i was diagnosed mildly, but i also got really bad o.c.d too ='(. autism's not an easy disorder.

  • Comment removed

  • You are correct, but this child is 2 years old and beyond that stage. My dd flaps more violently than that (not like it's a competition or anything) and usually when she is happy.

  • LOL all these comments are so serious and then LOL

  • LOL

  • What should be a parent's response when the flapping starts? Should the child be distracted from what causes him/her to start the behavior. Child has new facial changes now. kinder4801

  • What should the parent response be when the flapping starts? Should child be distracted from what causes behavior to start up?

  • your daughter is adorable!

my 3yr old son was just diagnosed mild to moderate autistic and he flaps his hands also and does the same face expression whenever he gets excited, happy or focusing on something.

  • my 5 yr old daughter is autistic but has never flapped like that however my 7 yr old son been flapping like that since he was two but was never diagnosed with anything but delay of speech...I always thought it was the cutest thing and I would catch myself doing it as well if we ever got excited together!!!!!!!!

  • lol. I have also caught myself flapping. In our house, it is the boy with Downs who flaps, not the autistic boy.

  • What has evaluator advised you to do when these behaviors begin...distract him from what starts it up?

  • We can usually get her to sit on our laps and gently rub the front of her shins, that has been most effective. It tends to be a self-soothing act, whether from excitement, anticipation, fear...any emotion that is a little more than a normal relaxed behavior (ie most of the time)

  • my 11 yr old does the same thing also but the docters also toled me it PDD/ODD

  • My 5 yr old does this exact flapping and mouth opening when she gets excited or proud too. My child is not aspergers or autistic. She has great imaginative play and good eye contact. This is her only autistic behavior. What other autistic traits does your child have that led the doctor to dx aspergers?

I'm very interested in your response.

  • she is adorable! My girl does this too! Curious, does she ever moan when excited?

  • This is exactly what our son did too! He is now 11yr old and just kinda jumps a lot when he's excited. I never knew this was a sign of Asberger - we've never had him tested. So far he's doing fine in school. We just thought he was cute!

  • Precious little girl. I hope she's doing well!

  • Thank you for putting this on YouTube for all of us parents who aren't sure what Aspberger's behavior can look like. What a beautiful little girl!

  • Hello!! *laughs!!!* that's my cousin!!!! Ohhhh she's so pretty!!! I can't wait to see you all again! When's Mimi & Katy going to Grandma's house again? or better--when do you want me over??

    Love!

  • My aspie son did this when he was 2/3 years old, I forgot about it until I watched this video! Actually, he still does a modified version, and he's 8. Your daughter is beautiful! Blessings~*

  • What a beautiful cute little girl
