Wonderful documentary. Admire the intimate thoroughness of the impressions of and experiences with Lee. It is a loving portrait of a very deep, complicated and basic human being. I would have loved to converse with Lee as he actually seems like someone you could approach and "hang out" with for both amusement and real conversation.
Marvin and Mifune apparently became close friends during the making of Boorman's film. It's an unqualified mess of a film, bad in a big way. However, that anecdote about the hat reminds me of something that was true of Mifune as well, in that he also couldn't stand superior officers when he was in the Japanese military.
