The religion of Jesus Christ means that a man is delivered from sin into something which makes him forget all about himself. The trick of pseudo-evangelism is that it drives a man into concentrated interest in himself. The curse of much modern religion is that it makes us desperately interested in ourselves, overweeningly concerned about our own whiteness.
@sevenarmy1 If Jesus Christ is only a Teacher, then all He can do is to tantalise us, to erect a standard we cannot attain to; but when we are born again of the Spirit of God, we know that He did not come only to teach us, He came to make us what He teaches we should be. These are some of the things which ought to be deduced from reading the New Testament.
Praise and love and glory and thanks and all honor to the Lord Jesus! You reign forever! I love you my Lord! I praise you for your strength and power, for your love and mercy, for your forgiveness and empowerment! Praise the Lord Jesus from the highest heaven! Praise the Lord from every roof top! Tell of the wonderful gift He has given us! He raised me up from the dead, and has given me everlasting life! I LOVE YOU JESUS PRAISE YOUR HOLY NAME! Thank you Jesus for your love and mercy! Hallelujah!
christianbluesman, if that was the case, to whom was Jesus speaking when he passes the "keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."
Here's a hint: Jesus fulfills Isaiah 22:20-25, when Eliakim son of Hilkiah (like Simon bar Jonah) was nominated as minister over the House of David. The language is uncanny and likewise, Simon bar Jonah became minister over the Church, the new House of David.
@1nviaggio, that scripture is to do with the authority given ALL believers in Church discipline. Jesus saying when christians decide to treat unrepentant Christians as unbelieving sinners, Heaven agrees with Earth. I.e, that disciplinary decision taken by christians on Earth is in compliance with Christ's heavenly command to do so. 'Binding' =leaving the unrepentant xtian in their unrepentance by treatn them like an unbeliver, 'loosing' =(forgiving/restoring) them to fellowship if repentant.
@9nytuber thx for the response. But what youre saying is inconsistent w the notion that throughout salvation history, God confers special authority to specific men.In this case, these specific men r his Apostles w Peter as head. This explains the teaching authority of Catholic priests, bishops and the secession of Popes and to hear confessions and consecrate the bread and wine at Mass. Even as sinners, they are called by God to feed his sheep. see Jn 21:1-22 when Jesus ordains Peter as minister.
@9nytuber in the Old Testament, see how God nominates Eliakim son of Hilkiah as minister over the House of David Isaiah 22-20-25. Or Moses and Aaron. Or the other prophets. The Bible is full of examples of when God calls specific men to do specific tasks. Catholic priests have been doing as the Apostles did when Christ called them: Leave their families and become fishers of men.
@1nviaggio, thanx. It isn't inconsistent at all cos I agree (just not in d text in question Matt 16&18) that God conferred (not confers) special auth to d apostles -to pen scripture in it's entirerity and t/b d 'founders' in d sense of setting up d 1st century xtian FELLOWSHIPS (not d founders of d body of Christ in d sense of they or us being the birthers of d Church -which no man except Christ can be). Since that task was done & scripture is closed, so did d 'gift' & whole point of Apostles.
Hm, not sure scripture says that Peter is the head of Apostles? You know, it may be worth studying the Bible completely on your own, without any form of theology -RC or otherwise pre-informing ur mind. What I mean is, to rid urself temporarily of any and everything u've learnt/heard/known in d past, do a fresh study, just urself & God alone and see what u come up with. I say this not to be offensive/patronising or anything, but completely as a loving suggestion as 1 who's tried d same. Gd Night
@9nytuber I appreciate your suggestion and I do read the Bible on my own. At the same time, I keep in mind that Im not a theologian. So I gladly rely on the teachings of scholarly Christian leaders and their Tradition to help me understand the context of various books of the Bible. I firmly believe in the Truth found in Scripture AND in the those traditions that the early Christians established that the Catholic Church has preserved and safeguarded thru the centuries (2 Thessalonians 2:13-17).
@1nviaggio I am new to all this. I was wondering where in the bible does it say peter is the head so I can tell my brother who says that he is NOT the head.
post script: What I understand is that Pastor Begg believes that the Catholic Church's claim of authority when it comes to teaching about God's Word in Scripture is both unscriptural, and therefore unChristian
Your second question is a resounding "Yes". Without doubt I believe in the Word of God in Scripture (12 yrs of Catholic school affirms this). However I very frequently rely on guides, such as but not limited to the Catechism of the Catholic to help me as a layperson understand the depths of what the Bible proclaims ( naturally a Roman Catholic interpretation )
Whereas in Roman Catholicism, we believe that God's Word is transmitted without error in Scripture and through the interpretation of the Church leaders throughout the centuries since Jesus Christ conferred teaching authority to Peter, the first Pope.
@1nviaggio When Jesus said upon this rock I will build my church. He was referring to the confession that Peter made when Jesus asked him who do you say I am. Jesus the Son of God.The Christ.
thanks for your questions tbell97. My understanding of his statement is that it stems from the evangelical notion that the Word of God ONLY refers to Sacred Scripture, both Old and New Testaments. And in order to understand God's message to his children, we Christians rely on the Holy Spirit to interpret Scripture through study and reflection on what we read.
As I devout Roman Catholic, I admire very much Pastor Begg and make a point to listen to him whenever I hear him on the radio, not for any other reason except to hear another Christian speak so eloquently about Scripture. According to the Cambridge Declaration document that he signed and helped draw up, the Catholic Church is not a valid christian church. I pray that one day he joins Catholics everywhere in participating in the Holy Eucharist at Mass.
@1nviaggio I just wonder do you understand why he makes this statement? And also have you read scripture for yourself? Just a couple of questions that I have for you.
The very best sound word, humor, poetry. Pastor Begg always teaches in a way that enlightens and helps to grow. These days too much looking for vain signs and wonders. Thank God for Pastor Begg preach on.
Pastor Begg's message on the man born blind just blew me away. I try to stay away from cliches, but when I get excited, my poor little intellect is challenged so much I can't think of more appropriate language. God bless this man who makes the Gospel so plain and challenging.
So funny in the beginning - "Thank you for letting me out" My 2nd most favorite preacher of the Word. Anyone who tries to preach James is brave. We sin because we are sinners, but He has washed us white as snow. Thank you Jesus.
Well that's a silly thing to say, on who's authority are the esv, nasb and others a subtle work of the deciever? Please be wise with what you say and don't just base your views on emotional traditionalism.
On a lighter note that was a fantastic sermon, such a blessing and a kind rebuke! Praise god for his mercy and truth. X
Who's doing the Authorizing with a Bible translation? It also appears to me that the reform pastors make better preachers because they take the Word of God serious.
2) What shall we say about believers who speak languages other than English, has God left these adopted sons & daughters of His in darkness because the translations of their Bibles are not the Authorized King James Version?
If one is to be intellectually honest, one must then admit that the argument which states that the KJV is the only translation truly faithful to the original text and that all others are inspired by the enemy, is to make a doctrinal statement. Since, I assume, we derive all doctrine from the Scriptures, I would like to know where this doctrine exists--even within the KJV itself.
@SkiFast10 I am being divisive here, I know, but I am always amused by the falsity of the KJV only argument, and the pseudo-intellectualism of it's advocates. I believe and claim that Gail Riplinger is my sister in Christ. Yet, she is often cited as a chief authority on this issue as if she has compelling academic et al credentials. Ms Gail has a BA in interior design, an MA in home economics, and an honorary from Hyles-Anderson College. I pray God will bring light to the KJV only folks.
If you answer the first question in the affirmative, please share with me where in the Sacred Scriptures themselves you find any dogmatic statement decreeing that the Authorized King James Version is the only English translation to be used and trusted 2000 years after the close of the canon?

I wish people would turn back to the tried and true word of God that is only found in the King James Version. These other versions are subtil works of Satan.
First of all, I want to state that I highly esteem the KJV as a wonderful Bible translation. However, I would like to ask a few questions and I hope I can do so kindly.
1) Do you believe that the Word of God is your final authority on truth, profitable for all doctrine and edification?
I really like Mr. Begg. I am a pastor and enjoy most of his messages. i dont agree with him on everything, leaning to far on the teachings of Calvin, nevertheless I agree with him more times that not.
I've always liked this guy, not only because he's a good teacher, but also because he's got an awesome Scottish accent.
