  • I want my Jeep to run off of Vodka. I will call it the Jeep Wrangler Siberian Edition.

  • I'm planning on doing the same thing to a jeep, my I ask where you placed your batteries, and how many? Great job!

  • I have an electric jeep too! It's small and pink but it doesn't go too fast though.

  • OMG. I want one. The girl at the wheel is SO lucky. Lol.

I have an old (like, only engine is working old) Diesel Jeep Wrangler YJ. I actually wanted to turn it into an electric myself, or at least a electric-diesel hybrid, and probably will to, if it weren't for the amount of money required.

How much did this conversion run for? I mean, I can dream, right? Hehehe.

  • chceck this out fastes motorcycle on t

    he plantet 0 - 60 under 1 sec !!!! ELECTRIC

  • It seems this is the only way to keep the planet "green", by doing it our self... great job! How long do you think the batteries will stay operational?

  • Your right. A lot of good things are happening at the grassroots level.

The batteries should last 3 to 5 years depending on usage (app. 800 full cycles)

I am going into my third winter with my first set.

Thanks for your kind words and comments.

  • i wonder what im gonna run my jeep on

  • Good that you are at least pondering options.

  • I'm going back to the beginning, and re-watching from Part 1.

Thanks for posting, I find the videos inspirational.

  • Thanks for your kind comment.

We are very glad to hear it when someone enjoys them.

  • Sorry to hear that you feel that way about electric, but glad to hear that you have an 88 too(square headlights) and are still enjoying it. Keep on Jeeping.

  • booo, gas sucks

  • Thanks for your comment.

At $1.25 per litre more and more tend to agree.

  • the jeep would have been in a scrapyard by now if it hadnt been converted. the engine was shot.. by converting it they saved it

  • I had built one, but it failed <I live in Michigan.Unfortunatley the thing failed, because of the cold would'nt allow the batteries to get a good chage, defrosters dont work very well neither.and no heat, if you pluged one of those 12v heater it made the range even less. They're work fine in a warmer climant,or maybe just the summer but usless in a cold

  • Sorry that your project didn't work out.

I wonder what type of batteries you used and when did you build this. We used Trojan T 145's

and yes -25C weather cuts their performance in half, but we were still able to get 60 to 70 km range and that was if we were parked outside all night before driving.

If you still have your project you might be able to improve its' performance with some modifications.

    Mike

  • Kudos on your conversion! I'm seriously considering doing an electric conversion of my own car in the future.

  • Excellent!

    Please keep us informed.

    Sincerely

    Mike

  • I think the whine is important to let people know you're about to take off. haha very cute by the way

  • Hmm a safety feature. Thats a positive way to look at it.

    Thanks.

  • THANK YOU I NEED TO SAVE MORE MONEY

  • I want to do the same thing with jeep any idea of the cost of the conversion and ways to do it cheaper. You did great but anything you would do different. where did you get the motor etc... would you get the same one.

    lots of ???? sorry.

  • We are thrilled that you are interested in doing this. We are happy to answer your questions.

Sorry about the delay but we are not on the internet daily.

The cost was app. $15 000 Canadian

There are ways to do it cheaper but I think they would affect performance.

    For example.

You could leave the steel body on instead of putting on a fiberglass tub.

Leave the front axle and if you want 4 wheel drive leave the transmission and transfer case.

    (to be continued)

  • I think these changes would reduce the jeep to an In Town Vehicle.

It would probable still do 80km (50 mi) per hour, but for a very short distance ( 5 to 20 km I don't really know just guestimating)

If you kept it in town and drove mostly under 70 km hr your might get 20 0r 30 km range

(all unknowns, but still would be an awesome vehicle if it meets your needs)

You could also put in cheaper batteries.\

We used Trojan T-145's (top of the line Trojans are the industry standards

    app. $5,000

  • You could use T105's which have less performance. Check Trojan website for cost and performance differences.

We used a Advance DC 9 motor (happy with it)

Bought it from EV America (and other parts)

Can be bought elsewhere (Canadian Electric Vehicles, or EV Parts)

You may be able to drive the cost down to app.

$11, 000 or $12,000 (guestimate) but it will be a different vehicle in terms of performance

    Still Cool Though.

  • Hey that sounds like a Curtis under the hood if I'm not mistaken! I have the same whine noise in mine. I've decided to find it cool. :)

    Good on you mate!

  • Sorry for the delayed response, but yes it is a Curtis (good ear) and yes it is cool and thanks for the support. What is it that you are driving if you don't mind sharing.

  • No worries! I'm driving a Mitsubishi Tredia. Not a very well known car in the northern hemisphere from what I can tell and it stopped production in the late 80's. It's as dull as dishwater but it only cost $180 so I can't complain. :)

  • Again, sorry for the delay, just found your message today.

Never heard of the vehicle, but any EV is great.

I have a 1961 Vauxhall (still gas motor) that maybe someday I might convert, so I do understand unusual.

If you wouldn't mind I would like to see a picture.

    Take Care

    Mike

  • Can't wait for some more video of this. I haven't seen an electric 4wd conversion before but I'm interested. I've got this truck....

  • If you look closely the four wheel drive has been eliminated. We have refabricated a straight axle from a two wheel drive Wagoneer to fit the Jeep and replaced the Jeep transmission/transfer case with a five speed manual from an S-10 (Borg-Warner T5). However there have been 4wd converssions done with limited range and performance.

  • Ah, I see. Thank you.

  • Is this just a one off conversion or are you looking to manufacture the electric jeeps ?

  • Anything is possible. There will be more information to come as the project progresses.

  • Brilliant!

Will there be further videos about how the conversion was done ?

  • Yes more to come.
