  • this kid never did anything to solve the worlds problems.....just talk!!!

  • .....shapeshifting as the IT of it all for me. No matter how many times how many ways said, the narcissistic parent ignores the child's voice punishing visibility and imposing submission to false selves for the satisfaction of the narcissist for to him/her, all the world is a mirror.

  • @SarahZephynz wtf????

  • I still loved the dog when I watched. Forgotten how I loved how he could shapeshift and also the innocent pondering at times of our difference in gender. Somebody must have been trashing the (I don't think they had words except demeaning back then) gays (has it changed?) I was 2-3 so not likely it would otherwise be nameable. I wouldn't be surprised if I had talked about it. And I can see how a narcissistic adult unable to listen to a child's voice and hear content would never have seen the sh

  • I'm down in Australia..just turned 60 but clearly remember the cartoon and most of the theme song..incl Felix the Cat..tears of nostalgia and a big sigh too... :)

  • oh my God ! I haven't heard this for 50 years ! This and Felix the Cat were my favourite cartoons when I was a preschooler. The memory was so fresh and powerful that, out iof the blue, I burst into tears ! Weird !

  • Why does the song say "Follow can follow me" when his name is Mighty Manfred"

  • Does anyone remember Tom's spout going "hat-boom" when he got an idea? I remember it making a sound that sounded like that but thought I remembered it being spelled out as well.

    Thanks.

  • I just wanna know one thing. Why was Tom always wearing an oil funnel spout on his head?

  • He's a kid, playing.

  • Remember when we had hope? Bless you, Tom Terrific and Manfred, the Wonder Dog!

  • OMG OMG....mightly manfred the wonder dog......my childhood hero!!!!

  • Crabby Appleton was the most evil arch-nemesis in the history of the world!

He was really "Rotten to the core!"

  • Dear Miss MinnieMouseGirl,Prior to his death Mr.Lionel Wilson(Who did the voices for "The Tom Terrific"TV Cartoons)worte his memoirs..I don't know if the book has been published? Hopefully..though..it has been published.

  • One of the '' NEW '' cartoons made for tv . We had Loony toons, and Popeye cartoons in the 1950's , but a few new cartoons came out, the very start of ''made for tv only cartoons, Crusader Rabbit , Colonel Bleep , Spunky and Tadpole , Ruff and Reddy , Felix the cat , Dodo , Bullwinkle , Huckleberry hound , Pixie & Dixie , Augie Doggie, and others ,

  • I remember Tom Terrific as a kid watching television. I cannot remember the years Tom Terrific was televised. Mid-50's perhaps?

  • @tomandsuehunter1 I remember watching Tom in the mid '60s, but then the cartoons might have been made back in the '50s and I was just watching reruns at that time.

  • Wow!He is still Terrific after all this time, and Manfred, the Wonder Dog is still faithful.

  • @juliaflo- Yes, I think we can safely say we are both over 21. LOL

  • @43cobra43 We're all just aging Boomers.

  • I loved Captain Kangaroo. I used to watch him when my mom went to work and I was alone in the apartment. I was 9. Later on in life I had a pure bred Yorkshire Terrier whose official name was Tom Terrific.

  • Good Lord.......I remember this also....and I'm three times 21......for those of you who, like m, graduated from the NYC school system, it could be a chore.

Seriously, to be that young and in front of the TV for just one hour would be a treat. My parents alive, my world in that tv set and such great shows........I wouldn;t choose to be a kid these days. Miley Sirus?? Yuk!!

    Steve

  • I rather listen to Mr.Wilson doing the voice for this tv cartoon character than that mean, old creep"Eustace"on "Courage The Cowardly Dog".

  • They were still showing this on "Captain Kangaroo" into the mid-'60s even though they only did two seasons worth of stuff. I once lived in Tom Terrific's home town of Holyoke MA. (Don't visit - it's not worth the effort; most of the town is a run-down ghetto. The only thing viable is their huge Ingleside shopping mall and the more wealthy side of town on Route 5. The rest of Holyoke is all 'Hood.)

  • Anything on Anderson Supercar show?

  • I just loved this cartoon. I just cant believe it's 45years ago

  • @43cobra43 This was part of my childhood. I guess this gives away our ages, right?

    (I'm over 21, that's all I'll say).

  • I watched Tom Terrific every morning on Captain Kangaroo!!

  • I have been longing to see Tom Terrific again for years. My family did name the family labrador Manfred and what a mighty wonder dog he was

  • When our family got a pet Newfoundland, we named him Jerry, the Noble Wonder Dog!

  • @Jlee61 Considering this is my most popular video I would guess your not the only one! BTY - I have some videos of the Captain posted! Regards

  • Boy, when I see this I think how I would give anything to have just one hour back, and be four or five years old, sitting on the carpet in front of that old tv, watching Captain Kangaroo. But this is the next best thing. Thanks, Youtube!

  • @imajeepster me too

  • We LOVED Tom Terrific!! Getting ready for school we would stop everything when we heard this little ditty. Very catchy.

  • When our family got a pet St.Bernard,we almost named him Manfred.(For the record,we named him Rufus.)

  • @RJRanke Both are Noble names!

  • @RJRanke On National Newfoundland Day, let's go to the Canadian Newfoundlands. Our founding fathers, the Newfoundlands.

  • This was created by Gene Deitch as a weekly serial (each story unfolding in five parts) for "CAPTAIN KANGAROO" in 1957. Only two seasons' worth were produced.

  • I sang along with it this morning. I remembered all the words, every single one of them, and the appropriate voice inflections.

  • I found this information from ToonTracker:

Lionel Wilson, best known as the voice of "Tom Terrific" recently passed away at the age of 79. He died of pneumonia in New York on April 30th 2003. More recently, he was the voice of Eustace Bagg on "Courage the Cowardly Dog."

    Another talented actor gone.

  • @MissMinnieMousegirl

Wow, I didn't know that. I loved 'Courage', too.

  • Oh I just loved Tom's Mighty Wonder Dog Manfred when I was 9 years old..

  • yes when i strech my imagination all the way back to almost the very beginning i do recall Tom Terrific perhaps shte very frist tv i ever saw was this!

now when was int 1956 something like that i think i was all of four at the time!

ah what i would not give to go back there just once more!

    sure was terrific!

  • Great post - I remembered most of the words to it. - Thanks...
