Were you ever able to fix this? Because my MacBook Pro with a MiniDisplayPort to DVI adapter does this exact same thing on my 19" Viewsonic monitor. I'm almost positive that it has something to do with the adapter.
@Glovesave74SH Nope, I have the exact same problem. When I tried this on my gf old regular macbook it works perfect. I think it's the gfx card. Did you get it to work?
Your MacBook looks closed in this video. Did you know that they automatically go to sleep when closing them? I suspect you're simply not getting any video signal from the MacBook because it's closed. Try the test again with it opened.
I get video just fine on my Samsung SmartTV through the Mini DisplayPort to HDMI, but there are frequent disruptions in the signal and audio "popping". When the signal cuts on the TV, it's still present on the MacBook screen. (An issue with Mini DisplayPort?)
@starbase101 Wrong. When you close the lid, it does go to sleep, but if you have a keyboard, mouse, and monitor connected it puts the system in "clamshell" mode which allows you to disable your internal display and use all graphics power to drive the external monitor.
I also tried to install the new driver for this graphic card which is need to have Mac OS X 10.6.8 which I have and it gave me an error which is saying this plugin can not install on this computer... I tried different ways and links and I didn´t get any possively results....
2. I have a Dell Monitor u2711 which I have conected with different ports, as miniDisplayPort to DVi Dual and only support 1080p when it supously have to support 2560x1440, and as well using a miniDisplayPort to DisplayPort and it it giving me a static problem or flikering on the image, continuously.
I have an MacBookPro i7 2,8GHZ with a NDIVIA GeForce 330M GT and it is giving me lot of problems.
1. Problems with image sequences with high resolution than HD = 1920x1080, I can see a lot of artifacts en on the final image. As well some times when the computer is very busy and I opened a new window, could be Safari for example, I could see a lot artifacts inside the window...
If you get the ProShutdown app for the aluminium keyboard, you must make the monitor go asleep and then wake it up. The snow activity will disappear on the second monitor. I’m using the Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter for my Dell monitor to my iMac i7....I still get the snow activity. I just ordered the Displayport to Mini displayport cable. Hopefully it will correct the problem and avoid the snow activity.
@Madtoe That software doesn't do anything to help the problem. All it does is allow you to bring up the diologe box that CTRL + EJECT brings up. Just wait for your displayport cable, it will fix the problem.
hey! I have the same problem as you! what's the fuc%$& problem?? I think it's something with the displayport, because the problem is always on the monitor that is connected to the Displayport input.. DVI input works well.
I tried updating all the drivers and nothing happened... I have:
- Windows 7 x64 ultimate
- Quadro FX 1800 (1 DVI and 2 DisplayPort inputs)
@jcoutada I was under the assumption the Mini DP to DVI ADAPTER was the problem, not the monitor or interface. I find it interesting that your Windows system and similar Dell monitor are having the same issue.
@sdschramm thanks for the quick answer .. the problem is in the monitor that is connected to the DisplayPort (with DVI to DisplayPort adapter), the screen turns off and on intermittently without any logic, but the image looks clean, with windows wallpaper, etc. .. without any noise or grain.. do you think that the problem is the DVI to DP adapter?
@sdschramm My Lenovo Thinkpad does not have a DVI output. Only Displayport. I really hope the adapter I bought works. My Viewsonic LED only has DVI and VGA (stupid considering it's 2011)
im thinkin of getting a new monitor. anyone know when you plug it in, but leave the macbook open does the screen turn off? i wanna be able to use the macbook pro keyboard while plugged into the monitor
@jimsterjk7 Turn it on with the screen SHUT, then open it after you are logged in and the (internal) screen will remain off. Or, boot it with the screen open and it will remain on (giving you TWO screens)
@sdschramm i have a macbook pro and the lcd screen on that is all kinds of fucked up kinda like that. though now that i watch it on normal its not the same
My Mac Mini using MiniDVI->DVI->Gateway HX2000 has exactly the same problem. I've been told from people in the forums that using a monitor via DisplayPort won't do that. I'm going to get an HP monitor with DisplayPort, I'll let you know if it solves the issue.
@redcarsarasota yeah, please let me know. I switched back to DVI a few days ago and it still has been doing the static game. I thinking on calling AppleCare to see if they have a newer version of this DVI adapter (maybe updated firmware?) that would fix this

@sdschramm The cable as you suggested seems to work... DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort

@jcoutada Why not not just go direct DVI to DVI? Thats your best bet.

@bielcouto Are you using the mini displayport to DVI adapter?
sdschramm 1 year ago
@sdschramm Yes, Mini DP to DVI adapter, original from Apple bougth in Miami august last year
bielcouto 1 year ago
So getting a Displayport cable fixes this?
destructorcreator 2 years ago
It doesn't fix the issue with the DVI - it just eliminates it as I am not using it anymore.
