  • @NipponNoUtaIchiban It may not be a cartoon, but it is a cooking show that is meant to be a bit silly, as if the the dog is narrating. If you just google it, it says his name is Francis. =) Either way, he's still adorable.

  • Is there something I can replace for mirin? I have all ingredients except the mirin.

  • @alvincatalan Try just using rice vinegar or sweet vinegar.

    you can do this method right here.

    100ml Water

    2.5 tbsp soy sauce

    70g sugar

    1 tbsp corn starch

    it should be thick sauce when its done.

  • Question... I tried to make this again but i think i kinda failed

    Do you get better results using only Glutinous Rice Flour apposed to regular rice flour? and what about Silken Firm tofu to Supa Maket Firm Tofu? whenever i try to make this the balls end up having chunks of tofu stick8ing out after boiling can someone tell me what im doing bad or wrong :/

  • @LilJericho8 Rice flour is very different from glutinous rice flour - that's probably a large part of the problem. Just look up some glutinous rice flour online if you can't find any locally - I made the same mistake you did the first time I made dango because the recipe I used didn't specify and just called the flour "rice." Also, the texture of firm tofu is, well... firmer than silken. Run it through a blender or food processor to get the right texture if you can't find silken. :)

  • Mine turned out really soft, instead of firm. My glutinous rice flower was powdered instead of lumpy like yours, could this be why?

  • @aznzero12 put a little bit of cornstarch in it ....this how I made my sauce

    2/3 cup water

    1/2 cup sugar

    2 1/2 Tbsp soy sauce

    1 1/2 Tbsp cornstarch, mixed with 1 1/2 Tbsp of water

    mix water, sugar, and soy sauce in a sauce pan.

    Bring to a boil on medium heat.

    Pour the cornstarch starch mixture in the sauce, stirring well.

    Bring to a boil again and stop the heat.

    I did try looking it up myself, but couldn't find a "calculator" to help, and I suck at math. Maybe you can help if you've made them?

    I bought both from a local Asian grocery store. I had to hunt for the rice powder, but I found it in a corner! Silken tofu was there, too, although I've seen soft at the grocery store before, and you can substitute that!

    Mirin should be in Tesco in the foreign isle as Japanese cooking rice wine

    Soyflour in the baking/health section.

    All health shops will sell Silken Firm Tofu, and possibly the Sesame aswell. (I dont like supermarket tofu)

    You won't find glutinous rice flour in any supermarket unless you live in an area that has alot of Asian populace like my area. You will almost certainly have to go to a Asian food store (where they will have all of this)

  • @watyomamagot The salt flavor is supposed to be there, I doubt they make unsalty soy sause cause thats just part of the Soy Sause..it's to be sweet and Salty at the same time.. you should add enough sugar so that the salt doesn't bother you

  • @b7tenchi1 all rice flour is glutinous. the reason being is rice flour is made from the glutinous rice type (sweet rice--> sweet rice doesnt mean its sweet. its just called like that) . The regular rice that isnt glutinous, will never be able to make dessert type food or mochi/ dumping in general. At least from my experience that is. never have I seen rice flour that isnt made from sweet rice.
