Thanks for all the comments. I agree with vp81955 about not seeing another storm like that one. The 1993 blizzard was close but still not the same from what I remember of the 66 blizzard.
Remember that blizzard well. We lived on Academy Place in the Valley (a block off Valley Drive), and we were snowed in for a few days. I still have never seen anything quite like it.
I could have been one of those kids. 5th grade, Brookside section of Fayetteville. The snow drifts covered our front door, and the fire trucks came around and asked us kids to find the hydrants and dig them out. Thanks for posting this.
@Pam4Rob I meant to hit Reply and put "thumbs down" sorry. The video looks familiar. I lived on Greentree Drive in East Syracuse, near Minoa and it looks like a video a neighbor took.
I was a junior in high school. You can't describe the intensity of the wind for such a long period of time. The snow was compacted so you could construct igloos.
I was in first grade then. Seemed like Christmas brake was one month long! The next year we wondered why Christmas brake was so short, not realizing that it was because of the blizzard the year before.
I wasn't born until November 1966 ... but I remember all the stories from those who lived through that storm. Great video for the age of the film. Thanks for sharing it!
It seemed so much sweeter and softer and more innocent. Could mostly be cause I was a kid, but I think it was kinda true. Vinyl records have a softer sound, as one example. They had alot less tolerance for harshness & violence, and reacted more naturally to it, generally. You could enjoy more isolation, if that's what was wanted, because it was easier to achieve. It seemed slower and saner sometimes. If you enjoy the past, get into it, and add things from it to enrich your own life. It's there.
I was in Syracuse at that time. It started ca Jan 31st and continued for about 3 days. Piled up 56 in snow. Almost everything came to a standstill including Spring Semester Registration at Syracuse University.
I was born in '65 so I missed the fun in this one. Heard lots of stories though growing up.
I grew up in Lockport and got to enjoy the Blizzard of '77. That was a lot of snow!
It was a blast sledding off the roof and across two neighbors lots.

I remember it well, and we were that age.
2 weeks off from school which was rare as Webster, NY (burb of Rochester) rarely gave up state aid for a snow day!

I was 10yo and it was wonderful!!! Our neighbor, Dr. Dunham and I spent hours out in it. We shoveled and shoveled and built a tunnel btwn the houses.
I also dug DOWN to find the car antenna.
Great weather memories of Oswego. Course I can romanticize bc I live in Baltimore!!!!!

I was in Syracuse then, we have some old photos but this brought back memories of how much snow we used to have in CNY growing up.
