@lukedesk if you have any ideas how we can contact each other without putting out email addresses here on utube for the world to see, it would be a pure pleasure to share this piece of pure beauty with you. Sorry BOC I have broke all the rules, but your compositions are mind blowing. As for seeing them live, I would love it if I could lie on my sofa and have them play a private function all to myself. Teehee, how wrong is that? I am proud that they are fellow scots. Geraldine
@lukedesk, I even got a mpeg of the album cover, a strange picture of a young boy, black and white standing in a playground (i think). Its a stonking double album with about 25 songs on each side. I know they wouldnt be happy that this is circulating without their permission, would be interested in any new info anyone has about this or if i have got the wrong facts about it also. If you want a list of the songs on it I would be happy to email them to you.Or perhaps send you a copy???
@lukedesk.....I am ashamed to say lukedesk that the copy of 'a few old tunes' that I have was not bought. I downloaded it with other unreleased pieces many years ago online. when I was doing a bit of online research it seemed from wikipedia at the time, that this album was made on tape and given out to close friends at the time, it was never released. I even read that it was a fake, however it seems that the music is not fake once you have listend to the whole back catalogue.
I finally got around to ordering a t-shirt of theirs from bleep, these guys are still totally tops even though they're pretty much retired from years back. maybe someday I'll get to see them... they'll have old grey beards and present pictures of farmland on holo-vision.
they state their influences as being watching the Film Board of Canada's shorts that we in scotland used to get in schools to fill in time. the music was etheral and full of shots of kids in the blazing sun of a snow filled winter sledging etc. i remember these films and share the same reminiscene that boc music seems to capture so well, has anyone heard the double album which never went on sale called "a few old tunes" i totally recommend it. from a loyal lover of boc.x
I love electronic compositions. I am a female electronic composer. Oh man is it hard to find other women who do it. Most of the people I like are men.
I love BoC but I don't understand how they perform live, it's all bits and pieces of other music stitched together, so what do they actually "do" on stage.
Electronic music is all about the composition, not the performance. Like classical music, you don't go to watch the violinists move their bow back and forth, you go to hear the song.
The best them about them is that they do it on their own terms. In todays world of complete money grabbing whores in the music world and elsewhere who cares if they dont even communicate for 5 years. An album would be nice though you pair of wee radges. Ta.
I think the reason we don't see boc around too much is because they make music to stir their own minds. Naturally skills such as theirs can't be contained and for this reason we've all been temporarily sucked into their heads through their success. With such a lack of ego surrounding their music I can feel the passion dripping off them like light from the sun. Their songs descend on us like a settling fog and I wouldn't have it any other way!
anyone read the article in blender about them. the writer asked for a gear listing, they said vintage keyboard, mpc v1000then a series of numbers like this : FJ45^()55. im guessing these random codes, are either parameters their using. or their just so stealth about their style they dont want others to know. if anyone knows of a website where i can see a live set would be much appreciated
I hope they will never play live. The massive audiences would just scream like little girls in anticipation, and the purpose of all that BOC stands for would just fade. I like their secrecy. They are pure, untarnished, the only real alternative act out there. The only feaseable way to see a BOC concert would be in a secret place, with a few religiously silent people applauding quetly. It would be much closer to a performance experience rather than a concert.
@Dockelektro i agree with you Dock, that their appeal is definitely rooted in mystique and that seeeing them perform at something like ATP or Coachella would serve to dismantle their entire vibedentity. However, i feel that music is meant to be shared, and i don't understand their persistence on isolation from their fans.
@Dockelektro wow, pretentious enough? I love boc, they are my favorite band behind Rush (almost on par with them), but I think they could make one hell of an awesome live performance- one that would put the trippiness of Animal Collective shows to shame.
dude i know, its fn unreal that in the last 10 years no ones put a clip of them playing live. their one of the more secret bands about how they make their music.
@GeraldProductions80 Obviously it would be sick if there was some live footage. But it kinda makes them even that much more badass that there's not that much info on them, no interviews anywhere (except in text). Annoying, but so badass.
@GeraldProductions80 They dont allow people to record their performances (the few they give), in fact I think recordings of them live were done without their consent.
@GeraldProductions80 And every other person and their mother didn't have a high quality digital video camera on their phones in 2002. Not to mention the fact that the internet wasn't overrun with free video hosting sites where people take for granted that every live show will be posted the same night it takes place. And regardless of how much we may love BoC, they've never been what you would call a mainstream act. Not at all surprising that there's no video from the few small shows they played.
thank you
