If you're not going to play the whole song, just don't bother. Can you imagine Led Zep back in the day playing Stairway and finishing before the guitar solo? Waited 8 hours in the boiling sun front row at a festival to see these guys (the 5th time I'd seen em). Battery's acoustic intro was played on a tape(!), then in comes James over the top with his tuned down guitar and it sounded fuckin horrible. They should get a new drummer and they might be ok

2) if you check out other bands like Megadeth (who I saw live a few weeks ago), Slayer (ditto), Testament and Exodus- they are all still playing old school, fast, accurate thrash and sound better than ever. @Rocker095150 I think Rasmussen was easily their best producer, he made RTL and MOP incredible albums, but to fair Rick Rubin did a pretty fuckin good job on Death Magnetic. Does Rasmussen even produce any more? He's probably a bit old, doesn't produce in the same way any more. I reckon Metallica will stick with Rubin with their next album :)

I'm a musician, and I can tell you that if we forget for a while that the word "metallica" is in the cover, we actually find a very good hard rock album. It's not bad, it has amazing songs like "ain't my bitch", "until it sleeps", "outlaw torn", "bleeding me"... that is not beginner's stuff, or you don't know anything about hard rock. It's ok, it's not what you expect from metallica, but from other groups.
