gratz' - the design came from orville gibson - he called it "florentine"- don't know why. where he got the idea for that curly-q scroll is another mystery. flubs are cool - indicative of what my wife calls "human element."
I'm going to have to jump on this bandwagon here - NICE mandolin!!
My Epiphone is made in China, too, as I'm sure you know, and it sounds awesome. I've had the sustain conversation myself a few times, as most people don't think a mandolin can have any sustain at all, hence the (in my opinion) overuse of tremolo!
thank you - couldn't agree more about tremolo - it's ok in small doses but too much (alà neapolitan tradition) requires stamina in both players and listeners. aside from sustain, what else do you need for solo mandolin?
Very nice -- that is a hard song to sing in the first place and for an insturment like the mandolin with limited sustain it must be especially tricky. Fine job -- really good. And that mandolin sounds very nice -- it does have good sustain so that helps -- and its a real looker! Love those ovals!!!
I'll be on "cranes of cardiff" like flies on a cream pie.
Brilliant idea of yours to play these oldies with the mandolin. It works well. I need to put some on my iPod. ... and you must have an impressive collection of instruments. This one doesn't look like any dime-store special.
grazie! i don't know why but the mandolin is not usually thought of as a solo instrument - not entirely sure if this works or not ... or if it does, why?
i'd been pining for an oval-hole, F-5-style mandolin for yonks. bought it on-line from a company called "cranes of cardiff" in wales, uk (check it out - heaps of eye candy.) it's a (relatively) inexpensive instrument made in china - probably the last one i'll ever get - i certainly don't need another.
I like the body of that Mandolin. The song was pretty cool too. Even the flub. LOL

thank you - you're right about sustain being necessary for solo play and i agree about its looks - it's the mandolin of my dreams.
