I remember being in Nags Head in when Alex struck . We were staying in a friends house that was rather old. I remember my dad was looking out the window trying to see if any trees would hit the house (hes an engineer). It was reallly scary! The funny part was my mom was gone the whole day shopping and later that week I bought a shirt that said I Survived Hurricane Alex
I was in Avon when this happened with my cousins and family, had to go tie down the deck furniture in 100 mph gusts that was blowing 30-40 pound deck furniture across the deck like a plastic bag. 7-9 foot storm surge I believe, insane for a non-evacuation.
My family and I have been vacationing on Hatteras Island since 1994. I love weather and I love storms. We were in Frisco for harricane Dennis. I wanted to stay so bad it was killing me. My husband said no because we had our 2 year old son and my sister inlaws children with us. After seeing this fantastic video I would not think twice about evacuating for a hurricane on Hatteras. Thank you for what you do. I wish I could do it.
Thanks for watching. It is an incredible job but one that puts us in harm's way often. We also see great loss. It is tough to balance the fascination with hurricanes against the impacts they have on people.
We need hurricanes. Without them, there would be something worse. Hurricanes are a release valve for heat on our planet. We just happen to live in their way.
ivan was the worst for us. pensacola beach was demolished and then in 05 danny demolished us some more. It was sad cause our house was up to code and survived both hurricanes but for our neibors who builders cut around the codes their houses got destroyed in danny.
i remember this storm it was brutal when it struck us i was scared out of my witz :O
