but back on topic, humvee is suitable for what you can say "light cavalry" , skirmishing but not for intense urban battle..humvees are rather like horse archers, they can keep their distance, good for distraction but if they enter the main battle they are quite fucked. So it's not the humvee's problem, but the stratergy.

The translation on the Humvee comment is not correct.

What he was really saying is that Humvee used aluminum body, which had weak protection, while the Chinese version used steel plate to start with, with added armor protection, is much better against mines and bombs.

Let me get this straight: because the U.S. didn't and couldn't know its militaristic needs thirty years in the future, it was wrong for AM General to have developed the HMMWV with an aluminum body? If the U.S. were idiots and JUST designed a vehicle like the HMMWV today, sure, it'd most definitely be made of steel. That's not the major issue. The major issue is that the body takes full force of explosions rather than deflecting them like new tactical vehicles with V-hull designs.

He's absolutely right, the Humvee isn't inherently bad, it's simply being used in roles it was never designed for. Of course it's going to fail in those roles, but that doesn't mean it's obsolete or useless. You just have to use this thing in the right places, like any weapon.

The Humve was never meant to take ieds or rpgs. Prior to OIF the majority of them were soft skinned. However the uparmor kit has seriously increased crew survivorbility. The vehicle may be a catastrophic loss in an ied attack but as long as the guys inside can walk away thats all that matters. What I don't understand is if the chinese hate the humvee so much why did they copy it to the last detail?

no the U.S. still use the Humvee. the uparmor Humvee has three type of armors.

Don't believe the Chinese look at their military they copied majority of their weapons from the U.S. You should check out their helicopter it look just like the U.S black hawk.

nah insurgents in iraq have gotten to a point where they are smart enough to make super effective IEDs. and hummers are just death traps. if you ask any usmarine they will tell you they all salvage metal and attached it all over the hummers in order to make it "armored".
