  • I just finished reading the entire play and it's ingrained within in me now. I just had to an interpretation. "The dead part of me hopes you won't get well" ....man, that slapped me in the face.

  • I need to watch this movie,

  • Eugene O'Neill was an absolute genius, one of the greatest American playwrights of all time.

  • Couple of questions about this -

    1) Is it directly taken from the play?

    2) Does anyone have the text of it?

  • @AdMortem94 Yes it is taken from the play, you can get a copy of the script at Amazon or a used book store

  • RIP Jason Robards. Incredible actor.

  • Poor Jamie.

  • this is fantastic! I have to learn a monologue to perform this june to get into Uni..can anyone give me some ideas of ones to look at please. ive never done any theatre before

  • this monologue got me into the conservatory of my choice for college. Its engraved into my soul and I'll find myself wanting to recite at times.

  • @cruzc85 yeah its incredible..jaw droppping.....what conservatory did you get into? (if ya don't mind me asking?)

  • Great scene

  • Great scene and very good acting! Jamie you jerk!

  • Wow- great scene!

  • James Franco could play Edmund

  • because he looks like dean stockwell (who tried to be like james dean)

  • Robards was always a fine actor, but when he played O'Neill, he seemed possessed -- the force, the pathos here are overwhelming --

  • Wow. It's scary just how much I actually relate to Jamie.

  • i have to do this scene for drama..i am so nervous. i cant get the angry voices that jamie has in the film, so i added laughter to it. makes it easier to perform.

  • This is the sequence that haunts me. There's a Jamie in every life, an enemy in every family especially if they love you. Remarkable that O'Neill could peal that onion.

  • Wonderful stuff. We all have a Jamie.

  • Robards was astounding.

  • Most powerful part of the play.

  • All of these are so great. Thanks for posting.
