While it is true that religious fanaticism makes it ugly and abominable self more visible over the past years, I must disagree with your statement that scientific acceptance is on the decline. While there is still a long way for our species to go, I think scientific acceptance is also on the rise. It's not like today's world is more ignorant than ever. The world always was ignorant. The Internet just made this sad fact more obvious.

RBGTHUG : It is unfortunate that the people to whom this knowledge of the fallibility of humans should be given...are the ones least likely to listen. "Emotional feel good tactics" are what people buy into religion: it allows them to have some absolute certainty, even when the whole universe is against their naive beliefs.
