  • If you pay attention he says G when he'sactually in D kinda in the beggining G is the start off then he call g in transition to D

  • when you want to do this, just use a bar chord on the 3rd fret for your G. it gives a better sound. plus, i never use my index finger to play a G.

  • My three comfort chords!!! :P

Great lesson, love how ya compare the lyrics to the chord change for me ;) Makes it easier to sing along rather than counting measures!

This is so easy..Thank you so much for these great lessons

    Maggi

  • So incredibly helpful and easy to understand. Thank you very much!

  • before the beginning of the 2nd verse, you refer "G" as you change to "D".

Then when you go back you correctly said "G" when you changed back to G.

Just thought you'd like to know.

This is a good lesson on playing this favorite I think anyone who's even touched a guitar could now play it.

Is there a way to strum this with an alternating bass note ?

  • i saw your guitar at guitar centerr!!! damn i looove that guitar!

  • this video rocks! i'm a total beginner and now i can play an awesome song! thanks! =)

  • I'm a beginning guitarist and I really find your videos helpful. I would really appreciate a video on how tho play R.O.C.K. in the USA by John Mellencamp. I know the chords are E, A and D but I can seem to get the strum pattern correct.

    Thanks in advance.

  • i want that guitar so bad

  • great video! helps alot!

  • This kind fellow is a lengend!! thanks my friend!!

  • what is the strum patter for the original song it it just up down up down..... or is it something else?

  • Hi, I am new to learning the acoustic guitar and I love your instruction on this. I got the chords down but I am having a hard time with the rhythem of the strumming. I see your hand but it is a little hard to know exactly what motion you are doing thru the entire stumming .

Can you tell me is it d duud or d dud dud? d+down and u+ up.

    Thanks, Trisha

  • thanx, mojo

  • this video is stupid

  • Thank you so much for this wicked constructive comment.

  • this video makes me want to go out and buy a guitar

  • its fun! but take a LOT of practice

  • Hey Mojo...love your instructions.

Is it possible to show us more "beach" music covers.

I am a local musician in the Tampa Bay area, and I want to play solo at the Tiki bars here at the beach. Margarittaville is going to be my first song to learn, of course.

Thanks again, and keep up the good work.

  • Ah, playing the tiki bar circuit... fun! :D

I will look into it. Thanks for the comment

  • this video skips a few times...is it me ?

  • @Korndog88 I moved to fort lauderdale from allentown, pa. I also would like more of those songs, also!

  • thanks for the valuable lesson

  • Mojo....your stuff is top shelf bro. I really only know 4 or 5 chords since Im a total guitar noob....but your lessons are truly outstanding. I wont stop until I learn them all. Keep it coming bro. Bring the Goo Goo Dolls>?

  • Goo Goo Dolls... interesting idea! I will look into it. Thanks for the kind words :)

  • Dude, great video. You're helping this beginner.

  • I am glad I could be of help :)

  • try to do it by playing D A G thats the way he played it not trying to be mean just trying to help

  • I appreciate the help. I am aware of it, but if you look at my site you will see that the aim is to maximize learning three chords and seeing how far we can stretch them so that beginners can learn new songs fast...

  • I think you are filling a niche that is VERY important. As with anything that takes practice, successes along the way helps us all stay the course. But I agree with Cookie, D A G is just as easy and allows for some D Dsus4 and some A Asus4 Am workings to spice it up. I don't think it kills the intent (3 chord successes) and if anything enhances self esteem and pushes students in such a minor but important way. What do you think?

  • I think you make a very good point. I started making more videos with chords like F#m, Bm, C#m and the likes... thanks for sharing your opinion!

  • Thanks Mojo, Your lessons are GREAT! I bought a guitar to learn to play but I only learned a few chords, I didnt know what else to do so I put it up to collect dust,Then I found your lessons and now I play every day. Thanks,Your a GREAT GUY!!! THANKS AGAIN. ROCK ON.

  • You made my day. Thanks for the comments :)

  • bravo :D

you need ot find your shaker of salt though xD

  • I need to find a woman to blame, first! :D

  • u are great there is a only guitar part that i didnt understood very well could u please help me

  • Wait, what are the chords for the chorus

  • Mojo. Thanks for the lesson. Could you do a lesson on strumming patterns? I'm still having trouble working out strumming patterns and how to know what to use.

    Thanks.

  • Yes, I will plan on doing one. Thanks for the suggestion!

  • Jimmy Buffet himself plays it differently. You are playing G,D,C but Jimmy wrote it using different chords: Yours=Jimmy's G=D, D=A, and C=G. It sounds way better played this way.

  • Yes he does... I play it that way to stick to the theme of the site, which is Three-Chord Guitar, with the same three chords ;) Trying to maximize your investment in learning them three chords, you know :D

  • sorry, I guess I was a little uninformed. I didn't mean to sound like a jackass

  • Not at all! Thanks for helping and bringing more info. It's always appreciated! :)

  • There is also a d7 thrown in there on the chorus, i think the way jimmy plays it is much easier, because its a bit harder to go from D to C than D to G

  • Hey Mojo great video once again, I think its great what your doing here with these lessons and that,Really helps a lot!

    Mark(London)

  • I saw another video that use the d then dsus2 to the intro, thats the part on record that sounds like a steel drum, can you ever show. thanks

  • Awesome man, there's a few different ways to play this song but I like this one. Thank goodness for YouTube.

  • Thanks for watching :)

  • awesome! 5 starts! I am going to try this out tomorrow. I have a question though... I noticed that you are lifting some of your fingers on the G and D chords, but you don't explain the rhythm for that.

  • Thanks for the kind words and for watching the video. The lifting fingers thing comes naturally after a while, but I wanted to keep the video simple so that those new to the guitar don't have to worry about it. You can play the song without doing the lifting fingers thing :) But it's a good suggestion. I will plan on making a video to show that aspect of my playing. Take good care, Mojo.

  • thanks!

  • You're very welcome :)
