  • my dad died yesterday and he was the best guy i've known. we used to go to mars and play catch the alien with our cyborg dog and then go home at the moon and watch movies from our 100 inches extra super slim television, and listen to music downloaded right from our brains, its a pitty that moons core stoped working and crashed right into earth when my dad was at home destroing it competely.im gonna miss you rest in peace

  • the longer you stare at the picture, it actually seems to start to move!

  • such a calming song to listen to late night

  • @thychaos Yes, because that totally makes sense right?? Have a good day bro (;

  • R.I.P. Grandpa, always Navy

  • someone plz explain this song to me

  • @rjaafar This is just my personal interpretation, but I think that this song is about the circle of life and death. Even as he lost one person his life (the death of his father), someone new entered (the birth of his baby daughter). He says that "god is good" because no matter what happens, life goes on.

  • more like i run n whine

  • Absolutely fantastic.

  • such a peaceful song

  • This is a song about the circularity of existence and the use of God to appease death. That being from the south is being christian, no matter the life lived. That every Georgian is religious when they're placed in a box. I think the melody is amazing, but the lyrics are often misunderstood.

  • I agree with every word sung in this song, I just wish I could put it into words like they do so beautifully here.

  • @bellafknbanana it really is, and the cool thing is that my dad always loved my musical abilities (: I guess it reminded him of his dad that died as well :0 music is everything to me now. it helps me just drift into my own little world but also with a pinch of reality making it not a complete dreamland (:

  • i am in love with this song

  • this is the song that puts me to sleep at night.

  • @thecottingleyfairy me too man

  • Yeah, sodomy! Woo!

  • its music like this that reminded me that live is way to short to not love anyone and to not be happy the least i can say is this music LITERALLY saved my life <3

  • My dad dies 3 months ago.. I still can't believe it. I mean he was my bestfriend .. the best guy I know. Ever since his death I've been getting better at the guitar and my voice is getting better. I'm going to learn this song in memory of him.. Love ya Dad(: .. Miss you man..

  • @xXGARSEEYAXx keep your head up and stay strong

  • @TheVeedubb it's up more than it has ever been, and i'm stronger than ever. He's in my heart and in my thoughts 24/7. ANd because he is with me.. I'm always strong <3

  • @xXGARSEEYAXx oh my god, shut the fuck up.

  • @xXGARSEEYAXx May I suggest this song then. This is how I learned it. Good luck :)

  • @xXGARSEEYAXx wow, this brought me to tears, im sure he'd be immensely proud mate!

  • @xXGARSEEYAXx you know where is right now though? hes ^ there

  • @xXGARSEEYAXx More Power to you man. Its all mind over matter. My grandma raised me man and she died on 5/8/11 Not a day goes by i dont think of her but all i can do is do the things that make me happy man, like playing bass and trying to sing. My condolences to you man.

  • My mother died just a few days before Christmas, and even with the battle she had been through, she still passed away with a smile on her face, this song hits home with me in quite a few ways even though the words are Papa died Smiling for Me its Mama.. for some reason this song just helps Me.

  • 9 people are out of their fucking minds.

  • @chippyblacknails Here fucking here. Fuck them. Wouldn't know beauty if it slapped them right in the kisser.

  • Thank you, John O'callaghan, for introducing me to this song.

  • is there anyway I can put this on repeat?? <3 ∞

  • Pandora.

  • touches my soul, bittersweet, meaningful and beautiful....

  • beautiful. music for the soul

  • My papa died on a Sunday :'(

  • Sublime... =)

  • Some one needs to make a itouch friendly version of iron and wines' such great heights!!!!

  • It's so incredibly difficult for me to listen to the last two songs on this album and not think of my father, then my mother dying and sobbing bucketfuls.

  • I'm an indie song writer. If you like Iron and Wine check out my channel!

  • What kind of sociopaths incapable of feeling anything would dislike this song?

  • Live long sam beam! live long, we need you

  • What does it mean to have a baby's head fell "like eyes on a crack in the door"? Did she die too?

  • Comment removed

  • @PandyWing

i think he's talking about the mystery and wonder between death and birth. like, he's curious about what's behind the door, a power that can take his father's life but give life to his daughter.

  • @PandyWing

Also, to add on to what londonium6 said, more directly, a newborn baby is unable to hold it's own head up. So I agree with london's interpretation as a parallel between life and death. Not that the baby died.

  • why do youtube comments always seam so fake and robotic?

  • @thisisjustayouTname HAHA! good song though

  • @thisisjustayouTname Because most of the people in the world are robots.

  • @thisisjustayouTname cuz most of them are fake and posted by robots. THEY'RE TAKING OVER THE WORLD!!

  • this is the shit! live long sam beam!

  • Sam Beam is the Faulkner of music.

  • Sam Beam is the Faulkner of music.

  • His Voice is just soo calmin´!

  • perfect tune for those breezy, hot days. : )

  • his voice is like therapy .

  • i just started listen to this guy ... i love his stuff. he's playin where i live soon and i cant wait

  • this kind of music needs to be on the radio more, i swear.

  • how are there so little lyrics yet they can make me cry in the first line?

  • this song depresses me i cant listen to it to much - i need to numb my mind with some 90s dance after a listen

  • Comment removed

  • easily one of the most beautiful songs in the world

  • So glad to have found this band. They are REAL singer songwriters and talented musicians we NEED them. They show us how to conect with our emotions. All the radio music does is bitch at us.

  • I wake up and I have everyone yelling at me, I go to bed with them yelling at me. my fathers is the worst, but this song every time I heat it I loose a chip off my heart.

  • It's official....this is my favorite Iron and Wine song.

  • wakeup be muslim

  • @LoveGlueGunnin9 growup be tolerant

  • this makes me feel human

  • this song is amazing... ps. does anyone else think that the album cover picture makes him look like Zack Galifinakis (the hangover) minus the shades and the baby

  • @Lex17661 I always thought Zack Galafinakis looked like him!

  • @rosescarlet79 Or does HE look like Zack Galafinakis?! Oooohh ;)

  • reminds me of my papaw

  • thanks to the end credits on weeds season 1 ep....2 or 3....i dunno i found this song,,,,

  • love this song so much...thought i'd never like any of their song better than the last, but i can honestly say it keeps getting better!

  • what does sodom mean?

  • @wictorhun3 (I meant to hit reply and hit thumbs up instead, sorry) Sodom is a biblical city of sin.

  • @wictorhun3 sodom (n): any location known for vice and corruption

    =]

  • @MrSushi08 Definitely sums up South Georgia

  • I'm so happy that this exists. It makes me want to love purely and leave something good behind when I'm gone.

  • my awesome friend recommended this to me he's pretty cool obviously because this song is lovely

  • you should listen to it on mushrooms while petting a dog, its just that much better.

  • @jweinhofer3 my ass is gonna try that lol

  • Easily the most beautiful song I've ever heard.

  • I don't know how he can sing this without breaking down

  • the guitar notes in this song just get to me every time. so deep, they strike a chord of a dozen emotions.

  • pervect song. 5+ from europe GEORGIA(საქართველო)

  • It's music like this that doesn't have a thousand people bitching at eachother over comments. It's music like this that would have several people finding light in death. Why don't they play stuff like this on the radio rather than autotuned computerized meaningless bullshit.

  • @Jubilant3Jenny cuz lately want to feel emotionless it sux i kniow but what are we gonna do?

  • @Jubilant3Jenny Music like this doesn't belong on radio for a reason. You must seek it out or have it find you to be touched, rather than hear it over and over on some station being hammered down your throat. :)

Let the radio play their plastic tunes...it only intensifies the truly talented ones.

  • Nicely said!

  • @discardthispast This is the best comment I've ever seen :)

  • @discardthispast now thats y they're so hard to find XD

  • @discardthispast Dude, I bet you could hear this in the mall.

  • @discardthispast This comment is incredible. Thank you.

  • @Jubilant3Jenny i don't like what's on the radio either, but just because music uses computers or autotuners or anything else doesn't make it bad. there's plenty of wonderful music produced using all kinds of technology. computers, guitars, synthesizers, software, drums, banjos: they're all just tools that could be used for wonderful music or bland radio poop.

  • @Jubilant3Jenny probably because its not what the people want others to listen to. i personally cant handle too much of this acoustic calm stuff though. i personally dont care about pop either and im more into metal anyway. but i do really like this song

  • @Jubilant3Jenny Just because music is made on a computer doesn't mean it has no meaning. However, I do agree with you that it's generally this style of music that has less bitching in the comments.

  • @Jubilant3Jenny Amen, you couldn't have said it better! Each song is so heart felt and passionate!

  • @Jubilant3Jenny Because they want chaos, they want anger. Drama makes the world go around.

  • @pvtfawkes lets try to change that with love

  • @Jubilant3Jenny Cause this isn't "Catchy", That's why I have a CD player xD

  • Wow, this song is amazing.

  • sodom

    sodomy?

    butt fucking south georgia?

  • @ZIsley09 Sodomy in the south? NEVER

  • goosebumps every single time. :)

  • @halifaxpier Wow. Just wow.

  • @halifaxpier Your story is so amazing, halifaxpier. I'm sorry your life has been so full of sorrow, but you are happy with your new fam, yes? Did y'all have to travel a good way to get to Sodom?

  • @halifaxpier >:(

  • @halifaxpier gay

  • "all dead white boys say, 'god is good.' white tongues hang out. God is good. "

This is so powerful. I'm very thankful for the beauty this brings to my life.

  • whoever disliked this. go to hell

  • Where is the replay button?

  • @ValiantUnicorn Oh, it's at the top left corner. You'll see when the song is ova. ;)

  • @textuallyactive88 No, I want it to play over and over continuously!

  • @ValiantUnicorn Me too man, me too.

  • omg this song is speaking my life. my father died on a sunday and when we saw him he looked as if he had a smile on his face.

  • @Dollieglitz Those were probably the post-mortem gases in his body pooling up and causing the muscles of his face to contract. It's the same phenomenon that makes corpses twitch randomly sometimes, long after death.

  • @squizz222 Let us have our illusions, dear. Have you never lost one dear to your heart? Some of us are pragmatic, some of us are romantic, let us be who we need to be to live this life.

  • The painting looks like it was inspired by Van Gogh.

  • beautiful, what music is all about

  • I love this song so much. But I met Sam's dad the other day. And he looked pretty alive. =)

  • @TheElevatorGame You just don't get it, do you asshole?

  • @e4hookah jesus, calm down. the guy was just making a joke

  • words cant describe

  • This song is so much for me. Too much. Ruins my day every time.

  • This is my official road trip song to the south, highly recommended.

  • This song is tremendously deep.

  • Why have I not discovered this man until now?!

  • its awesome to hear great music like this these days... it gives me hope for the music industry..

  • this is a great song im from michigan and i listend to it all the way thro the apps. i had the cd but by dog chewd it up 3 years ago

  • @pinewoods19 cool story bro

  • @norri1am I find it pretty incredible that even while listening to this sublimely beautiful song you can still manage to make a snarky dickish comment berating someone for just speakin their mind..

  • I definitely listened to this album on repeat for about six months. One of the best.

  • Been missing my dad a lot lately.

  • @greenandroid I hope you're doing alright.

  • @LifesSmile thanks - looks like you lost someone to cancer too, and I'm sorry.

  • @greenandroid these tears are not enough to even imagine the pain you must've went through. and I have an uncle who has cancer but have not lost him yet.

  • this song kind of makes me reflect on my life

  • tout simplement " magnifique" <3

  • ♥ !

  • I, in a thousand lifetimes, could not even dream of composing such deep, beautiful music as Sam does. He is so wise, pleasant, such a... I don't know how to put it. But to say the least, he harbors the single most astonishing beard I have ever seen.

  • @catguyauble Yes, but he's no Lady Gaga.

    (except for harboring a beard.)

  • @hymnofashes Agreed.

  • its okay just stumbled across iron and wine but the thing i dont like about them is that all the songs sound the same :(

  • @TheLolledproductions your obviously a tool. a big. huge. tool.

  • @jellonator You obviously have no respect for other people's opinions.

  • @Sishification your obviously a troll.

  • @jellonator well they do mostly sound the same. you've obviously some issues to work out.

  • @jellonator i feel like i wanna take my big huge tool and rape your mouth with it for not respecting other peoples opinions

  • Comment removed

  • @TheLolledproductions your obviously deaf im sorry for your loss of hearing. your a tool.

  • I like Iron and Wine. I was just wondering though, if he ever gets a fire behind his voice?

I haven't looked very hard, but I've never heard him sing above a whisper.

I feel like it would be really moving for him to build up from his usual sound during a song to a crescendo at some point.

  • @michaelmooreamhs no flame but its accoustic indie. that's all they do brosephus.

  • I sing this in the shower, over and over and over again.

  • This song gives me goose bumps. never in my life have i heard music as emotional and moving as iron and wine

  • This band is so unique, that I can't even describe their music genre to my friends.

  • @djschoolcraftmusic

You're thinking of a completely different word altogether.

  • @IOYB Actually, the word sodomy comes from the Bible story of Sodom and Gomorrah, two cities in which horrid acts (such as sodomy) took place. So they're kinda one in the same lol.

  • I just listened to this song about 300 times in a row.....

  • Hear it live...

    It sounds even better.

  • Beautiful. All I have to say.

  • "both heads felt like eyes on a crack in the door"

    wow

  • @cdphatty *fell

  • You are me. I am you. We are I.

  • I afree with everyine that commented

  • I wish I could play this on my acoustic
