@angkorfortune thanks...of all my blades,, this one was the most thinning work....nearly 2mm of thickness removed by angle grinder..this gave it speed in hand like the fighting knife it is supposed to be..and now it's gone...one day I'll have the time to make myself one that I can keep eh?
@bassfuryvi It is a great looking blade! I have a Khukuri made from a truck spring and its a Tank I expect that knife to be no different! Is it differentially hardend ?
@Ghostkamo I hear you..but I've literally in the last 3 minutes found the mechanical drawing for Eli's Sword (Denzel Washington..)...I'm getting an idea,,,,,
@thomasbigfoott Thanks..it was a lot of drawing, card models and tweaking with a grinder to get the blade shape that was a respectful nod to the classic Bowie whilst having my take on knife making..I'm very glad how it turned out..
@KnifeCrazzzzy if you want to message me I can give you an estimate but ball park around the retail of a Kabar (UK),,and I consider the USMC knife to be THE standard to start from.... thanks for your interest !
I've been wanting to make a large blade like that but i am a short guy and i am afraid i'll have to add training wheels to the end of the sheath to carry it. LOL.
I'll start forging one during the winter since i may also enjoy the warmth of the fire.
Thanks for showing this awsome Tombstone Bowie, a real classic.
@EDINBURGSTAR thanks I appreciate your words..especially as you are from Texas where Bowie fought at The Alamo..I had been researching the Iron Mistress and many period Bowie blade shapes to arrive at the geometry and size of The Tombstone as a tribute to a blade classic whilst trying to retain my style of making...I'm really happy with the result as the balance point was barely in front of the hand, making fast back cuts a blur! It also chops, cuts and feathers with authority.
@Waldhandwerk thanks for your input Sepp..love the new mantra of yours!! I always believe in a large blade as a main tool and a Mora/Finn Bear etc. for detail..or those Beckers with a small skeleton knife in the sheath pocket..a big blade can save a lot of work in a few minutes and thereby saving energy from the start when making fire,shelters..
ha ha..you can see I haven't done much cutting of bottles when I hit the milk carton on the back swing but hey, I sussed it on the second go...why edit cock ups??
Now that's fucking sharp.
