@HylianSpirit Especially with "Sucking on my titties like you wanted me Calling me" (such as great scene). But I totally agree with you. Whoever the Music Director was for the film did a fantastic job.
Free to learn Last time with you You're always wonderful I wanted you I do, I do, I do Free to go I know you City girl you're beautiful I love you, I do, I do, I do they cut a line from this song, damn dirty dogs... I seriously thought the movie was retarded but who can hate this?
I went to Japan as an exchange student (unfortunately I had to go back to France halfway through it because of what has happen in March) and the movie soundtrack captures exactly that... precious feeling you only experience there... Especially in Tokyo, it's just the perfect soundtrack to listen to while walking the streets of this city !! Wow ... now the feeling of nostalgy is so strong that it hurts :,(
To me the best shots in the video are from trains - between 20 and 30 seconds where the train goes across three massive high density long neon streets. Really makes me want to be there for the excitement and loneliness of the big big city.
Same with 2.15 when the van shoots across the intersection.
@jakekarlson Ah come on, man, if Kevin saw those comments, and realized that nobody is saying this song is a rip off of anything, or anything like that, and also realized that people were comparing him to one of the greatest song writers in history, he would be happy. Who wouldn't? This song does have a Lennon-y dreamy, psychedelic feel. It's a beautiful song, it really is.
On a side note, this movie changed my life. Pure melancholic, nostalgia inducing radness. God damn, favorite movie ever.
Free to live, last time And you, you're always You're wonderful, I wanted you I do, I do, I do Free to go, and go And you City girl, you're beautiful I love you, I do, I do, I do I feel love, I know And you City girl, you're beautiful I love you, I do, I do, I do Free to go, I know And you, you City girl, you're beautiful I love you, I do, I do, I do
i don't know what "trolling" is. and i didn't even know this was a mbv song. i need to fix my speakers. also, please give me a thumbs up on my comments. it hurts my feelings to see -3. thanks.
you have never been in tokyo as well in osaka. I prefer Osaka too...but i lived also in Tokyo....osaka ist like tokyo, but without iterations of the districs.
It's my favorite movie. I loved this song also. I guess because of this amazing Sofia Coppola's job, i'd like to visit Japan someday. So sad that it's too expensive.
I agree. So many of my friends and family don't understand why I like it so much. They say it has no plot. But there's something in it that feels so incredibly heart wrenching you know? The visuals, music and script along with the actors are all in sink and it really paints that picture of meeting someone and even though you know you'll never meet again just knowing that for someone reason that person made an imprint on you. Its not for everyone, but the artist in me really loves it.
They obviously didn't understand it, if they think there's no plot. All stories have a plot, no matter how mundane and 'ordinary' the events that occur in story seem. What a person has to do as an audience member is muse why the artist put a certain thing in the contents of their art, and what was the intention behind it.
I couldn't have put it better. I tend to like films in which nothing much appears to happen - I think it does in this film, but it's not immediately apparent.
What I get from this is the characters' sense of being terribly alone whilst being in a densly populated city of millions
@godsgrl444 You know what it is? I just watched it and it's an adventure, it's something so different from what we usually experience. This is the movie that made me really want to visit Japan, it's like a whole different world. There is no real plot. It's basically a movie about experiences of two people in Japan from a foreign perspective. Just imagine yourself in an environment completely alien to you. Yeah the cinematography was beautiful. If you liked this movie check out Before Sunrise.
Oh my god! I use to live there also and for some reason whenever I watch this movie and listen to the soundtrack (bought it because it is amazing) I always think of Japan also.. I lived in Tokyo and Kyoto. I loved it.. I want to go back.
I used to listen to this album quite a lot while I was living briefly in Osaka; I'd play it on the subway or just walking around getting lost. I even watched Lost in Translation again while I was there: I found it highly relevant to what was going on around me at the time. lol *sigh* I miss the place.
I went to see this movie twice. One of the great soundtracks. The visuals and the sounds of this movie really set a mood. Something of her father definitely rubbed off.
This song blew me away, then I bought the soundtrack and it is brilliant. I fall asleep with it on the subway, then work out in the gym with it. Her look at the end of the video is priceless.
No, didn't get that feeling at all - and I'm a PC lefty, who knows it when I see it. Maniok's quite right, the film was all about the isolation of being in a different headspace. Setting it in Japan just made that point viusally - and there were plenty of westerners in the film who the main characters couldn't relate to as well.
Not at all. I'm a total fan of Japan, Japanese culture, Japanese people... And since I love the film, I've seen it many times and haven't ever gotten that feeling either.
I think people who get upset about some funny parts in the movie or about the melancholic way it displays the difficulties of learning to live in such a 'different world' simply are hypocrites...
there was that review from a newspaper and it said the thi film was "anti-japanese racism". That critique is an obvious dick as he or she just don't get what this filmis about. This is forever my favourite film of all time purely because of it's artistry.
i don't think it was done in either a mean-spirited or racist way at all. the point of the movie is about people being unable to communicate or understand one another. bill murray couldn't communicate with his wife nor anyone in tokyo, and scarlett had difficulties communicating with her husband, yet when they found each other they immediately became kindred spirits. it is a really good movie worth watching and the soundtrack KILLS
aqui dicen se parece a cocteau en algo pero mas el se influye de bandas americananas dinosaur jr. o sonic youth un tema magistral el de kevin shields fue el mejor single del año

This movie promotes deep introspection. You can learn alot about yourself wathcing this film. People who can appreciate it probably have more in common with you.
now you've gone and made me want to see this move YET once again...
I can't really watch this film without falling in love with Scarlett Johannsen.. and I don't even like her!! but her character in the movie is hard for me not to fall in love with...
I don't know if I'm the only one but whenever I go out with my friends into the middle of everything, be it downtown or a club or what not, and come back home after, I get this weird feeling like I'm a small part in this bustling, bright, exuberant world. Like there's so much going on around me. People's lives, each a different trace in the whole picture of light. I put this movie on when I get home. So nice:P Makes me feel lonely after it's done though, that is if I'm still awake!
I dont know how is this Kevin... but excellent My Bloody Valentine sounding... Beautiful song, especially for this movie.

This movie promotes deep introspection. You can learn alot about yourself wathcing this film. People who can appreciate it probably have more in common with you.

Exactly, same thing with American Beauty I think, both movies show a deeper aspect of life. I love movies like those :-)
