  • Want Bioshock movie now... plox

  • @ebv1....compared to what? Today's overused, over rated CGI effects? Give me a break! Todays movies look so fake compared to something like this, which was so far ahead of it's time that it really doesn't look all that dated. Considering this was 1927 it's actually pretty mind blowing......especially the epicness of the city itself!

  • when CGI didn't exist, they were able to pull off such wonders

  • @facac20

    @The6thSimpson

In my opinion, we can't compare a movie like metropolis, wich is very old, and a blockbuster like AVATAR. Moreover, this movie was really impressive in 1927 when he was created, and even if now it looks boring for some people, I think that those two movies are impossibles to compare.

(Sorry for my english, I'm French! ;D)

    Thanks!

  • this reminds me of a commercial for apple

  • Au cas ou des français

    N'aurait pas compris la vidéo

C le moment ou le méchant

( dans le film Métropolis ) sacrifie

Une femme pour donner vie a son robot

Et sa marche :( la povre fille -.-

  • watched it today. Metropolis took its fame from visual aspects and i had no real expactations facing the rest- just that 'i-don't-want-expect-too-much-from-legendary-movie' atitude. but it got me from the very beginning. yeah, story & acting can be cheesy sometimes. however, the climate of Metro is so gripping, intense, you will not care about the rest of the world for film's length...that marks great movies.

and this little gem is even better than being great. Distinguished legend.

  • Metropolis : were we are going...

  • I know they used miniatures and stop motion for the city scenes, but I still wonder how they made the airplanes fly. It doesn't look like there are any wires at all.

  • @ALITITANIC of course it was a joke :) but that copycat "inspired" herself based on this.

  • Woot to the 2010 Restored Version!

  • "Robot: check... Chemicals: check... Electricity: check... Inverted pentagram: check... Naked lady: check... GENTLEMEN, BEHOLD! BWA-HA-HA-HA-HA!"

Just mucking around. This film is brilliant.

  • this crap copied lady gaga's alejandro

  • @HCmon This is not crap, and this came first. Obviously. I know you were joking, but, it wasn't very funny.

  • I think that Avatar is making billions of dollars just because James Cameron hit the right spot by making a movie about the true human nature, to destroy everything thing that lives, to plunder and exploiting resources (oil,coal,gas...). That's why the whole world talks about it, it's the movie about us, how we keep destroying our planet that gave us life (in the movie the Pandora is another Earth). Without this, it's just another movie with lots of FX effects.

  • @DaisOfDestruction In fact, Avatar is just another movie with lots of FX effects, AND politically correct clichés to make it seem "a movie about...".

  • @hembetan Yeah, that's another thing about it.

  • The fact that Avatar comes up so often, to me, seems to vindicate it. As long as people talk about it, it'll be relevant. I'm not saying it's the best movie of all time, but it was clearly a massive achievement. Say what you want about it's message - though I think it has a worthwhile one - Avatar is comparable to Metropolis in its technical innovation and scale.

  • The most beautiful scene and memory is the reincarnation of the Mythical Tower of Babel. How little we learn from the lessons of the past, this movies rings true to the path that humanity has embarked. Must we forget that we are only human.

  • @WarriorFootball

Totally agree. This movie is pure magic. Amazing even today.

  • ma la musica è originale o è a posteriori?

  • This was done in the twenties? What the? Unreal.

  • @Freenetnow 1926

  • Very good movie. It's on my top 10. It describes the fucking present.

  • If you get the chance, go see the restoration. It has all but two scenes, making it the most complete version of Metropolis ever seen since the film's premier. All the subplots are put back in. Except for the newly found footage, the images are just as clear as they were in 1927.

  • I actually find these effects really good even by todays standards. Nothing seems corny or even dated. It's stylistically beautiful and executed really well.

  • @driftwood1408 wow are you kidding me lol. i mean saying the effects arent dated seems like a stretch

  • @eb1v Not in my opinion, but I can't really argue my opinion...

  • i m feeling soo superior

  • This was the Avatar of it's day.

  • @The6thSimpson

funny, my Film study teacher says the exact same thing.

  • @The6thSimpson Don't compare. Metropolis has a deep message. Avatar is a stupid empty and commercial shit.

  • @fcac20 Personally I loved Avatar.

  • @The6thSimpson

very nice that you liked it, but still, please don't compare.lets see if people marvel at avatar after 85 years...hmm i dont think so

  • @fcac20 plenty of themes to be considered as well in Avatar.

  • @fcac20 i prefer movies like this over movies with computer animated blue people fucking in the woods

  • @fcac20

    You havn't seen Avatar then.

  • @adlerfg Yes, I saw.

  • @fcac20 what do you think the deep message is?

  • @fcac20

Avatar isn't made to be an in depth view of the human race. It's a swashbuckling adventure movie for crying out loud and it's one of the greatest of it's type. And this film...It is THE best of it's type.

  • fcac20

Avatar isn't made to be an in depth view of the human race. It has it's comments and it's messages about our world but not to extremely great lengths and that's obviously what they wanted. It's a swashbuckling adventure movie for crying out loud and it's one of the greatest of it's type. And this film...It is THE best of it's type.

  • @fcac20 Avatar ist einfach nur schlecht und hat keinen Sinn. Ich rate zu den guten alten Filmen. Die waren noch echte Filme, nicht so ein scheiß.

  • @fcac20 For your information don't worry,i'm a fan of both FL & JC, so! James Cameron work on Blade Runner the newest version and the message will be deeper than Avatar!

  • This is very technologically impressive for the time.

  • Excuse me"Did these stories really happen?"--the book is at amazon!

  • Great new book (Diod these stories really happen?) has Fritz Lang section!

  • now i understand why Michael Jackson had wearing one glow , and why Beyonce is wearing mechanical hand in one of her videoclip. Because this mad cientist had one too.

  • Is the movie still available int he market??

    Please reply!!!!

  • @oldinfant23 of course it is.

  • @zagyex really were we can buy it because here in Asia this film is not available!!

  • @oldinfant23 You can buy from amazon. com if it is possible for you. Or you can download a torrent but that is not totally legal. However it is a 83 years old film and the American copyright had lapsed in 1953 but "restored" in 1998. The F. W. Murnau Foundation owns the copyrights so it may not be a huge crime to download it, they may authorize if you ask them.

  • @zagyex Thanks!!!!!!

Hope this film is not expensive!!!!!

  • Radio ga ga

  • queen???

  • @oldinfant23

    yep

  • actually it doesn't look that bad.

    it's amazing

  • wow check out her eyes

  • I just saw M and must say that this man was so ahead of his time! By today's standards the special effects are not impressive. But if you step back and consider he did this in the 30s and onward, you have to take your hat off to the man. Just amazing.

  • SO RETRO its crazy

  • @xenomorph1ACIDBLOOD

I just finished watching the 2010 recontruction version (2h30 length) on TV. The music was the same, so it is THE ORIGINAL SCORE of '27 by Gottfried Huppertz.

    Yours AdL
