  • wow...

  • city of ruien.....u mean ruin. thats what i said city of ruien.

  • This is masterful. Bruce is one in seven billion!!!

  • My city of ruins... thanks to Islam, religion of peace

  • @lelobest please do not confuse the actions of Al-Qaeda with Islam....

  • @ZRN959 Oh yeah, it is like confusing Hitler with the Nazi!

  • @lelobest heh, but, Not all Muslims are Terroists...

  • @ZRN959 But enough of them are. And enough of them agree with the terrorists.

  • when i am in my death bed reviewing my life, i will think about bruce and be pleased that i got to share my time here with him.

    thanks bruce.

  • Haunting...just haunting. We will remember.

  • Even though it wasn't written for the events of 9/11 when Bruce performed this at the tribute, it felt like it was created to express what we all felt. We can never forget that day. The Boss followed up the next summer with The Rising. God bless us all as we look back at the day again.

  • Helping to heal, Springsteen style...a NJ boy who UNDERSTOOD <3

Every day I pray for the strength, Lord...

  • Helping to heal, Springsteen style...a NJ boy who UNDERSTOOD <3

  • This bring tears to this old mans eyes

  • StonewallVH5150 , I like the way you word it ... "Healing ... Boss Style." Well done. Springsteen is so damn good.

  • matthewandsteven, this song was actually written by Bruce in the early 70's referring to the decay of New Jersey. When the 9/11 Tribute Concert was created, it seemed so fitting to have a boy from the State of New York singing such a fitting song. It's kind of eery how this song fit to the tragic events of 9/11 isn't it? Any thoughts my fellow Springsteen fans???

  • @gordlightfootfan I'm sure you're right. The song has been around for awhile. I'd say specifically it was about the decay of Asbury Park, not New Jersey in general though.

  • Was this song made for 911, or was it made before?

  • bruce exhibits so much emotion when he sings RISE UP. its great to see passionate singers these days.

  • To all you conpiricy theorists- FUCK YOU!! The government wasnt behind 9/11 you little shitheads. How do you think it makes the victims families feel that you are saying the government attacked one of its own buildings and killed its own citizens? Just fuck off

We will never forget 9/11 <3

  • his playing timing falters throughout the song. wonder if it was intentional to add sadness

  • when a song this beautiful is played on an occasion like this acoustically... who gives a f--k about timing

  • that's not what i wrote

  • I didn't say it was

  • never forget

  • @nimi1984 Amen

  • Amen Bruce, Amen. Rise up and never forget.

  • The Thing which Makes Bruce's music so different from everyone else is That anyone can sing it and it still applies to them. Bruce has said this was written about Asbury Park, but after 9-11 this song became a song for the Rebuilding of New York and The Rebuilding of America.

  • wow... this liam person is quite hostile. Did you forget your meds, sweetie?

  • This song was initially written about Asbury Park. But the Boss wrote it NYC after 9/11. He just didn't know it yet.

  • This song wasn't written for the occasion-that's true-but very poignant and pertinent nonetheless. I was always touched that, in this nation's darkest moment, they turned to my favorite artisit to launch this musical tribute. Luv ya, Bruce.

  • Still gives me chills...

  • i love that : Come on RISE UP !!!

  • I think it is a very powerful song.

Sad & touching. But also with new hope and the will to fight on.

  • fuck you. your comment is one of the most ignorant responses I've ever read. this song uplifted not only people but the city in which the song is about. listen to the words of the song, they are absolutely beautiful and his performance is breathtaking. what would you have prefered, a fucking guitar solo? once again, FUCK YOU.

  • "...this song uplifted not only people but the city in which the song is about..."

You mean Asbury Park? The song was written about Asbury Park years before 9-11, my friend.

  • my friend my ass. do you seriously think that asbury park wasn't going through his mind as he was singing? was nobody from asbury park lost due to 9/11? what does it matter when the song was written? i simply don't understand where you're coming from, because if you're going to disrespect a legend as american as bruce springsteen and not have anything to back up what you say, then you have no place here to speak.

  • De gustibus non est disputandum, my friend

  • The same sentiment rings true for Asbury Park revitalization and NYC post-9/11/01.

I won't say the same thing as krock, but the song is supposed to be cathartic.

  • that is correct, dony know why everyone is giving you thumbs down :(

  • Your pretty stupid srosen, but it doesn't surprise me. You are from New York, lol. I love how people try passing off Bruce as a New Yorker. New York tries stealing everyone's artists and passing them off as their own. Most people in Manhatten are transplants and didn't even grew up there. 911 was a horrible tradegy Bruce tried to help using the words in the song. Anyways, people from NYC stay in NYC in the Summer, we don't need you stinking up our beaches. Pls no Gold Chains and wife beaters

  • this still gives me goosebumps... awesome

  • w w THEreligionOFpeace c-o-m - De Nile ?

    10,000 attacks before 911 & after. GET a CLUE.

    Try Facts-History-Stats-Numbers-USS Cole, etc, etc...

  • they wanted to blame the terrorists, which to be honest it obviously was, so it won't help the government if it turned out to be some insider job by americans. And even more obviously if it was the government, nothing can be done

  • I'm not sure how you can like Bruce but hate his politics but I guess some people do. I believe he is one of the greatest singer- songwriters of our time and if you actually listen to his lyrics you can understand where he's always stood politically. This is beautiful music, it's shame how so-called 'patriots' have twisted the minds of so many.

  • I agree.. Btw, can't wait for his concert this summer!

  • i love the song and video, id like to find this version of the song online somewhere. can anybody help me out ?

  • thi song wasnt meant for 9-11

it was written about asbury park

i have a video in my favorites

bruce visits asbury and sings this song at the end...maybe bruse is bullshitting us

  • Go listen to timberland or something!. ahahha

  • yeah everyone knows he didnt write the song for this....nobody did. everybody sang songs that were already written and directed them towards 911..nobody is bullshitting anybody asshole

  • Class act ! Wonderful way to start the healing. I remember being extremely moved the night I watched this.

  • Goodbye, Danny. Forever in our hearts.

  • Show's Bruce quality again. Thanks Bruce!

  • uh oh -those comments were to You pyro not another by the same name..

  • Thanks for the heads up Mandy - Awesome Video! Squirrell

  • thanks to all involved.....BUT cheers mands, only yesterday i mentioned it being a shame them pulling all the seeger session vids n then you send this wee gem. 1st time iv heard it too!

im a big springsteen fan too now. but moreso his recent stuff.

    cheers squirrel!!!!

    pyro

  • Really Dave, I prefer his older stuff. (covering my head) I find him kind of a hippocrite these days... (eeek - okay everyone...bring it on...)

  • Well, say what you want about him, but Bruce was, through all those 40 years he's on tour now, always true to himself and voiced his opinion: what he stands for and what he thinks is right or wrong.

You may not agree with him, but a hippocrite he is not and never was, imo.

I don't know how you get that feeling.

  • when has he waited on a breadline, worked a factory job, lived on the streets, picked oranges or whatever? i like him, I always have, but practice what you preach, and never again will I pay 300.00 for a concert ticket for ANYONE. I nevr said I didn't like him, sometimes the preachy ultras lefft wing goes a bit overboard for me, I don't care who he donates to. He's doing just fine, I haven't found decent work in over 2 years, No help from Bruce here - go on, rant at me, i can take it. I LIKE HIM

  • If you paid $300 it's because you scalped a ticket...they were $95.00 + ticketbastard charges

  • Greetings from Asbury Park & Nebraska are the best IMHO - push, push, push.... but I DID say IMHO,and I meant it, lol - to Pyro, (he'll get what I mean)....

  • Dear Amanda, I agree, but Bruce sings it so with deeply sense that you have to listen to it! Thanks for sharing. Squirrellone, thank you very much for posting!

    Roeleke

  • I know roeleke, but it makes me think of "MY CITY", of course.. it's too sad for me to hear.

  • Well, I can understand that Amanda, it was too terrible for words, and hurts!

    Roeleke

  • This song was written before all of that though too..about another city, though it is fitting.

  • Yes, and when it fits, you FEEL it!

  • This gives me chills... this is an amazing performance. I remember seeing it on TV still. He's still amazing live.

  • Now theres tears on the pillow

    Darling where we slept

And you took my heart when you left

    Without your sweet kiss

My soul is lost, my friend

Now tell me how do I begin again

  • The Boss just delivers here. Awesome.

  • You can not but hear the emotion in him when singing this song,And the hope he brings with his lyrics in this song, Putting it simple "The Boss"

  • This performance should go down as one of America's great moments. This is not the work of fat stupid evil people that the stereotypes against Americans would have us believe is true.

  • AMEN dribblebabble, so tired of hearing about us fat, stupid, wasteful, selfish Yanks..

  • unofficial poet laureate to the people

  • I was looking for this song for awhile. finally it's in... Tks, again great tribute & song....

  • Healing..Boss Style.

  • this song is so powerful.
