i cant tell if you have it, but you should slap on a 3.91 differential. that paired with the supercharger you have will make your car blow the doors off of just about anything on the road.

its the motor making that raspy sound....not the "exhaust"....I guess you are asking what muffler is on the exhaust system?

open exhaust, or close to it, on an inline 6 m3 motor always sounds like this......exchanging the mufflers only edits the sound a bit....nothing more

Also, for the rest of you, the Factory Exhaust on an M3 is extremely Raspy like that.

Aftermarket ones make it even worse/louder, especially at lower Rpm's.

Nothing wrong with the "tail pipe" it is the standard tin rattle that comes with an M3 and to belive it or not they actually engineered the exhaust to make this tin sound...don't know why, they thought it was a good idea, but it sounds like it is going to break!!! The standard car is heavy and very pricey for what preformance it gives, but handling is idot proof and for a 4 seater car it will kill most american cars on the car track on bends and above all it a BMW!!!

For those of you who think there is something wrong with the exhaust, the exhaust is actually fine.

The rasp you are hearing in the exhaust note is a unique signature of the E46 M3 due to the cat situated near the exhaust manifold.

You can purchase a rasp terminator pipe from aftermarket.

not auto, its called SMG. (Sequential Manual Gearbox) its a clutchless manual. you can shift with the paddles or shift using the stick on the center console.

not with the turbo lag , btw principal advantage of a supercharger it you have boost pratically instant by is pulley driving , instead of a turbo they have to spin around 40,000rpm before gaining a little boost and it have to spin more than 90,000rpm to reach top boost :P

any supercharger on an average sized 6 cylinder will be laggier than a turbo that will support the same power.

This is simply because superchargers make power in the same area that the NA engine does. Six cylinders (and 4 cylinders) don't really make much power until about halfway through the rpm band.

But saying one is less laggy than the other is a bit biased. For this application a mid sized gt30 garrett would probably make more power and have way more torque, from lower in the rpm band.

um... no the S54 as a BMW M engine, it has a very flat Tq curve, developing 262 at 1500 and maintaining it through thr RPM band. SCed is much more responsive than a Ted S54. A T is always going to be more total power, but the same PSI SC and T, the SC will be quicker off the line and at initial pulls. There isnt much difference in a T and a SC for this engine, unless you add methanol injection.

i don't agree. i've driven and e46 technik stage 1 M3 and the boost is pulling from the mid 2ks all the way up. the dyno reflected it at a consistent 240~ 270wtqs from 3,000-7,500. course this was with an ASA blower maxing out at only 6psi

Superchargers dont suffer from lag at all. That is why some people prefer them over turbochargers.

In fact, the bigger the turbocharger you go, the more power it saps in the lower RPM range.
